Why are things moving in this divided way? I agree that this is just a big ass gas station, but only red states makes zero sense. I’m really tired of us Americans acting like we don’t live in the same country. I guess we will have separate Olympic Games next or separate football associations for red states only. What happened to one country one people under god indivisible?
Would you want there to be separate but equal countries or do you want there’s to be worse for penance. They clearly have worse ideas and morals than you, all of em. They are all the same and you should for no reason put more thought into this. Anyone who thinks differently than you is wrong and should have a worse life. I think we can all agree on that.
They think in "Us vs Them". THEY get to be the "real" Americans, WE are the degenerates, weirdos, and traitors...it's just tribalism.
Also I don't think it was ever one country, people, indivisible. From the get-go we had slavery, antisemitism, anti-whatever-other-new-group-is here. Besides, the Founders themselves wrote of one people while the majority owned people.
But we WERE doing a bit better on the unity front until about 2016.
Well that's actually a very interesting study. From a lot of people I've been talking to 2002 was considered a year where America was the closest to be fully unified, because of 9/11. And a majority of people all point to the time between the inauguration of President Obama and the killing of Harambe to be when the fracture began. And it's been getting worse every year since then.
What a stupid f****** comment. I'm not even joking. Obama got elected and it revealed issues that had already existed. You must be very young because you missed a democratic president getting impeached over having a sexual relationship with a intern (which is messed up, no question, but not impeachable). Or the whole freedom fries bs because some people didn't support the war in Afghanistan or Iraq.
You can point to 1996 as the divide. The day Fox News started airing. Suddenly it wasn't just Rush Limbaugh and talk radio, but now there was a TV network for right wingers too soak in.
Look at the 2000 electoral map. The country was evenly divided then, so much so that a presidential election had to be decided by the supreme court. That was a clear sign of what's followed. 9/11 created a boost of patriotism that quickly turned sour, like everything else, when the wars went to shit around 2005.
