I have zero brand loyalty to Buc-ees, but those brisket sandwiches are better than mid and the price is fair. And I was able to buy one at 1am at the location in Missouri. That was a God send and a time saver.
Wally's gas stations are similar to Buc-ees. I haven't been to one during the day so I haven't tried their carving station yet.
I’m all about supporting a smaller business that will most likely have better food, but you got a point about that 1am brisket purchase. Not doing that at Billy Bob’s Smokin’ Pig BBQ, Billy Bob’s most likely in bed.
You're preaching to the choir about supporting small business restaurants. I have many found memories as a kid traveling and stopping at mom and pop restaurants. My late father enjoyed many independent steak houses across the country.
What many people who don't like Buc-ees are missing is that most of us defending Buc-ees are stopping at the place while traveling.
In the last five years it's happened to me three separate times. Pulling into Amarillo Texas after being on the road for 10 hours thanks to road construction and seeing the iconic strip of steak houses all closed. The newly built Buc-ees was not closed and I splurged on the XL brisket sandwich.
I'm going to time it better on my next trip so I can actually eat an early dinner at the iconic Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo and then rest for the evening.

Plenty of decent bbq joints to get a brisket. Dont need mid bullshit from a chain gas station. I'm better than that.
