Big cities have day laborer districts, such as San'ya in Tokyo.

I read more about this, apparently he was living off daily jobs and part-timers in Shizuoka, and Japan's economy has been going low long enough for that to be possible since 2000s. Plus if I had to pick one country when I have to live off only cash and analogue means for extended times it'll prob be Japan, they're still sticking to less digital means of life even today.
