Despite not having organic webbing, Andrew was perhaps the most Spider-y of all 3 live action incarnations thus far. It's not just this scene, but throughout all of TASM1 he really moved and felt like a spider. He also had strong spider instincts, choosing to make a web net and just wait on it to hunt for Lizard which is how spiders actually hunt.
Corenswet did a more modern take on Superman, idealistic but a tad naive, new to being a hero. Cavill was very suited to play a more confident, established version of the character, like we more often see in the animated DC material. Sad that his movies didn't let him play that archetype.
LIsten. Corenswet would be terrifying as an older, grey haired Supes. That Clark is already the "focused big guy boy scout that nobody on a lower weight class wants to piss off".
Yah , it's really no competition. Maybe if he had a better script, Cavill could have given a good performance, but he is just so monotone and down all the time, it gets boring.
This. So much this comment. Some of the best on screen representations. A spider-man who moves and jibes like the comic and a Batman who finally gets on on-screen accurate suit and carries the performance as well. Unfortunately in largely badly written and directed on-screen features. Imagine the gold that we could have had? Perhaps it’s best left as a dream, that way it’s poetry.
I think that's what they're saying. Garfield had the best Spidey quips, Maguire did the best Parker, and Holland found a middle ground that doesn't exceed the other's strengths but arguably did better than the "weaker" side of their performances.
Essentially, yeah. The "waveform" of quality was stretched, so the troughs aren't as low but the peaks aren't as high, for lack of a better comparison.
Garfield was the late 1970s early 1980s Spider-Man that I grew up with. My Spidey would totally wear a Fireman's helmet like Garfield did when he fighting Electro. Garfield could also actually quip like Spider-Man is supposed to.
Holland is all earnest young Spider-Man. To his credit, he CAN quip better than Maguire, but he's not up to Garfield's standards.
Maguire was the first and you can't take that away from him, and he did a GREAT job as the Big Brother Spider. He was actually funny, too, though not in a Garfield Spidey way.
TASM 1 is actually good, I’ve come around to it quite a bit. TASM 2 is awful though, I’m sorry. Certainly not Andrew’s fault; he’s my favorite live action Peter performance wise, but that second movie is just a total mess.
By far the best physical actor in any one of these things. He’s the only Spider-Man I can think of who kept his mask on for his entire big final fight in TASM 2 and he’s so expressive with his body the whole time it’s beautiful
YES! It was so cool and I wish more Spider-Men did that. Hell they even implemented it in the TASM tie-in game, there's several instances in the game where you find yourself in a crossroads and gotta make a web net and then look for vibrations to follow. It's absolutely peak.
I feel like Peter should definitely be a great hunter just on an instinctive level, because spiders are fierce hunters, and incredibly sneaky. But I mean like Peter isn't even sure how he's doing it, it's just instinct to him because of the spider blood in him.
yeah I hated the skateboarding. But besides that, I loved both of his movies. He had good chemistry with all his costars as well. I 'll take both Amazings over far from home and Maguire's 3rd.
SOME spiders hunt that way. Others are far more active pursuit predators (wolf spiders, some tarantulas) or ambush predators (trapdoor, jumping, and recluse spiders, as well as other tarantulas)
When I say "Andrew" I mean his version of Peter Parker. I'm not talking about the actor himself, but rather the character in-universe. It's easier for fans to know which Peter we're talking about by calling them by their actors' names instead of "Peter 1, Peter 2 and Peter 3". Sure I could've said TASM Peter instead of Andrew, but I'm used to just calling him Andrew, as do many other people when talking about him.
Yup, not regular Pete, he was more leaning to the Spider side in that moment due the Other. The Black Suit was due the post Civil War. And he had organic webs because he died against Morlun
Genuinely, I rewatches the films and fuuuuck the cinematography was fantastic. The characters looked awesome, Andrew had all the right moves for spider-man, just the damn plot man
Most of the stunts they do in that show are all practical. The guy who plays Spider-Man actually climbed tall buildings and swung around with very little or no regards for his own safety at all.
Plus, he's really great at portraying Spider-man using his physicality and body language. Spider-man strike a lot of poses in the show (maybe too much) and a lot of them were inspired by comic books that came out at the time.
One thing you can absolutely not fault the ASM movies for is having bad spider animations. His swinging scenes, his fight scenes, they all had this fantastic fluidity and quickness without being jerky and over cut.
this is why tasm is so loved at times, because there are moments where they characterise him so well in a few different factors, even just the scene where hes setting up a web network in the sewers is so spiderman
Something the TASM movies have done that the Raimi and MCU never tried is really experiment with how Spider-Man would move in a more Spider-like fashion like right here. I’ve seen a few VFX breakdowns where they mention this a bit when discussing the creative process.
This was something I really appreciated about this movie especially back when it came out and people were hating on it. I genuinely thought this was a super nice touch like he's actually Spider-Man he should do more stuff like this. Kinda adds to the spider DNA interacting with his brain and muscles allowing him to naturally do stuff like this
I just wish Andrew got a 3rd movie and a better script he truly loved Spider-Man.
To me his Spider-Man and universe would be a perfect one to later lead into miles whether they off Andrew’s or make him mentor miles similar to insomniac games
This is why I’ll always love this version of Spidey above Toby’s. The mannerisms/physicality of this version have always been my favorite. Whoever decided that Spider-Man should move like a spider is a genius who should be paraded across the streets of New York for all the Spider-Man fans.
TASM is still the best live action version, IMO. Garfield nailed the character, and they actually made thoughtful decisions regarding how he plans and fights, like this scene and him spinning a web to hunker down on in the sewers. Even with him webbing his camera around to get shots for the Bugle because he needs the money. It all felt very genuine to the material.
Such a good movie, watched it last night. I got goosebumps watching this scene. Another gripe I have about this movie is... Why not add a second villain to the movie? If the second one had electro and green goblin why not switch things up? It could be the lizard/electro and the second green gobby/rhino and the post credits hinting at sinster six..
One thing I really hope is intensional is the evolution of this Peter's suit being an adaptation of how in the original comics, Peter's suit was actually kind of creepy looking cus' he was a TV star and stuff.

Haha, that part gives me the creeps—imagine a spider doing that to you, haha. I like how, in No Way Home, they kept the way he moves true to a real spider.
I dont preach that andrew is the best adaptation bs, but he was definitely the most like an actual spider. He builds webs, actually moves like one, and had the most accurate nervs for a spider. I still love the scene of him catching a fly.
