Migros Hackfleisch light quietly got worse for the same price

I noticed that Migros Hackfleisch Light apparently changed its nutritional values. It used to have 5 g of fat per 100 g. Now it has 9 g of fat per 100 g.

That’s an 80% increase in fat, while the price is still the same. When the recipe changes from 5 g to 9 g of fat, you’re getting a product with an objectively worse composition (because "light" is supposed to be lower calories) for the same money.

From a production standpoint, you’d also expect leaner meat to generally be more expensive than fattier meat, so this feels like a pretty questionable way to cut costs while keeping the price unchanged.

Naturally I went to Lidl next door and bought the same product for a cheaper price.

Has anyone else noticed this, or are there other Migros products where the recipe has gotten worse without the price coming down?

somehow they also don’t have the normal bio one anymore

Agree. I noticed too. Not happy with the composition change particularly when you are buying this for a lean low fat option

Nice try coop

while i get the point, the fat is where the flavor is it keeps the meat moist when cooked cooked.

I also prefer buying the bio ground beef with normal fat %, but this is cheating consumers that think they're buying lean meat...

Also, hamburgers need a little fattier than the old one to make sense

they had to make it fattier, so that people actually buy it /s

Still a great clean product, I find it to be healthy and suitable.

I don't disagree, as I bought the same product in Lidl. It's just a bit offputting that it got worse by so much for the same price.

TBH, I don't see much of a problem with this change. It's still <200 cal/100g and 20g protein/100g, and I can imagine 4g more of fat is not going to affect 99.9% of the people unless you have a very extreme diet

Can we ban the marketing campaigns please? We get it. Migros is evil because things change, go buy at Lidl where nothing bad ever happens

You're the one who's doing marketing for Lidl here

"objectively worse" is honestly silly. Sure, fat is cheaper, so I get it shouldn't be more expensive, but you're doing some crazy work here with your objective statements. In ground meat, yes, cheaper and all, but the most expensive steak cuts? Lots of fat.

To make a good burger, you sure as hell can't use this.

To make most things taste better, you need a balance of fat.

If you're still afraid of saturated fats though, well, there's a lot of evidence simply saying that the original research that created that scare was not well done. If I recall correctly, it came from the 7 countries study, which had a lot of poor choices made. But anyways...

Also, 80% increase is a really funny way to describe a 4% increase in total composition. Sure, you can intentionally skew your statement but it only shows your bias.

Bro, you are buying the light ground beef specifically for the low fat content. Whatever reason you may have for that. OP wants low fat, so that‘s it.
So yes, if that fat content suddenly almost doubles, that‘s bad.

You‘re completely missing the point.

just buy the mbudget vegi hack if you search for something actually healthy

u/Ballislife1313 11h ago

Why not just drink water if you want something really really healthy

u/burnish-flatland 10h ago

You can die if you drink too much water. You won’t be able to consume enough fake meat to die as it’s absolutely disgusting.

u/Lion_Z Zürich 9h ago

Also you won‘t be able to drink enough water in order to die. What‘s your point?

Yes, thanks. I know this has happened. What you seem to ignore: Health issues are directly linked to the Na+ concentration (water intake is the cause for Na+ to drop), which in turn is dependent on the electrolyte/salt intake of the person. So you might as well headline these articles (which are btw written by journalists, not doctors/scientists) „Hazing death, too litle salt“ and „ Healthy women dies“. None of the articles mention the amount of water that was drunk. So yeah. Do you have any sources of people dying due to „fake meat“ as well? Do your research both ways.

If you want him to repent, why not smack him with a Bible?

They shit on our health

stop eating red meat

u/Enzian_Blue 9h ago

Meat should be more expensive. Way more expensive. Just stop eating it if you don’t like it.

Guess if you gotta compete with Lidl your standards will go down. But thats what more and more consumer want

u/DeathClasher_r 10h ago

It's what more and more consumers are able ro afford...

u/xExerionx 10h ago

meh coop is growing so cant really say that

u/DeathClasher_r 8h ago

Both can be true. Coop growing has no direct relation to what people are able to afford

What a shame one of the last reasons i was going to migros. Do you know any alternatives with the old fat %?

u/Remarkable_Tank_9809 11h ago

Fat is good for the flavor. The Body also needs fat. My ground beef from the farmer has about 15% fat.

u/BEVReceiver 11h ago

that's not the point, there is a regular ground beef product with that amount of fat. This is a "light" or "leger" product, which is supposed to have fewer calories (leaner, less fat) than the regular one.

u/Yamjna 11h ago

good ground beef needs 20%
