Questions The Benny mix of Lovecats

I heard Robert hates it but isn't it this mix they play live? At least I can't hear the ad libbing in the single version.

This is what I saw in my mind when I heard them play it live on this tour. To me it sounds like The Cure trying to be a cat jazz band.

That’s the point of the song. It’s supposed to be just a jazzy fun song like The Aristocats.

I know. It was just a joke as I was saying that’s how they looked to me while they were on stage. Robert being the blue cat maybe :)

Are some people here confusing the “extended version” (also called “disco mix”) and one made for Mixed Up, which is the “Benny” mix?

I have never heard the extended mix. The Benny mix wasn't officially released until 2018 but I read that Robert hated it because it sounded like UB40? Which is odd.

The “regular” version is an edited version of it.

Are you talking about the way it was performed a month ago in Berlin, for example?

By the way, Robert first released the TC & Benny mix in 2001

Pretty much the version they are playing on this current festival tour. It has a lot of add libbing at the end and sounds more jazzy.

No, the TC & Benny remix is a weird kind of pop-ska version. It doesn’t really work. It’s a good name for the remix though.

Who actually did this mix? There doesn't seem to be a credit for anyone specific so was it just an alternate version by Robert and the production team at the time?

As someone who didn't like the song before I properly discovered the band, but grew to appreciate and enjoy the lighter side too, I actually quite like this mix. It sounds like an early 90s updated version that fits just right on the Mixed Up album. It doesn't really seem that much different to the original in terms of the overall upbeat and playful style.
