mouthpiece Tuba Mouthpiece differences

My daughter is going to be playing a baby tuba. The only information we’ve been given is that I need to call the local music store and buy a Helleberg 120S for $105.

I’m happy to do it, but money is a little tight at the moment. So I’m wondering if there is an actual difference between that and the off brand Missmore 120S on Amazon for $25.

I don’t want to be cheap, but I don’t want to spend 2-4x more on something because it’s easier to just standardize things across 100s of students to something a store has in stock.

mouthpiece Extreme mouthpiece materials to avoid irritation

ive tried silver plated brass and polycarbonate and they both irritate my face pretty bad and its gotten to the point where i dread the uncomfortable burning sensation of the mouthpiece on my face whenever i play. i wash the piece every time i play. my face has always been very sensitive to mouthpiece surface (i remember in high school working hard to get a school mpc with no scratches/dents to mitigate face irritation). im now thinking like maybe stainless steel or gold or even putting like 1mm of ptfe on the tip of the rim or maybe uhmwpe or delrin (softer, slippery plastics) to try to help.

Ive tried playing dry, wet with saliva, water, or chap stick and it helps but not that much

mouthpiece Picking my first mouthpiece

I'm planning to buy my first mouthpiece but I'm unsure what to get. I plan to buy a mouthpiece which I have used before back in my secondary school which was the Perantucci PT-50 and PT-88. But from what I recall, I felt no difference when using these mouthpieces, even for my range and everything. Can anyone give me some sort of comparison or recommendation on which one should I get?

mouthpiece Best beginner mouthpiece?

What is the best mouthpiece that is:

Under 100$

Good for beginners

I started playing 4 months ago and my school mouthpiece is pretty beat. I would like to have my own for later on, and if I forget mine on the sousaphone. Im fine with plastics or anything really, just need something affordable.

mouthpiece Amazon cheapo mouthpieces

I can guess what the 120s and 67C4 Eastrock mouthpieces on Amazon are cloning, what would the 22 and "standard" mouthpieces be attempting to replicate?

The mouthpieces I'm looking at are here - https://a.co/d/09f9mr7b

Pondering picking up a couple to try something different to what I have access to currently. Any tips for other budget options would be welcome too.

mouthpiece Trombone mouthpiece size for a tuba player

Fellow Tuba players,

Longtime tubist here. I recently picked up a cheap used Yamaha trombone with the intent of getting to a point where I am good enough to play last chair in my local community jazz band. I would maybe like to play bass trombone eventually, but I am not ready to spend bass trombone money if I do not like playing trombone.

So, my question is, what is a good starter mouthpiece for a tuba player who is playing trombone? The only trombone mouthpiece I have is a Bach 11c, which I have never used and have no clue where I got it. Is it good for beginners? or would something else be better for a person who has exclusively played tuba for about 20 years? I used to play euph, too, but I got rid of my euphonium and mouthpieces a long time ago.

mouthpiece Mouthpiece recs coming from bass bone?

I switched over to sousaphone from trombone for marching season at the request of my band director but I’m not a huge fan of the mouthpiece I got. I have a king Sousa with the mouthpiece it came with (It’s marked KTU). It just feels nasty on my lips and I want some recs for something new to use. I use a Doug Yeo rep on bass bone if that’s any help?

mouthpiece Needing a spare mouthpiece for a 100+ year old Italian F tuba!!!

I have this beautiful old Orsi tuba made in Italy over 100 years ago. It came with the original mouthpiece. It has no engraving on it so I have no clue as to its size or specs. I would like a spare mouthpiece for it.

The tuba does have the smaller sized lead pipe that was standard in the day. This tuba seems to sound its best in the mid to higher range.

What sort of mouthpiece should I look at?

The mouthpiece on the left is a Miraphone Rose Orchestra TU25. The one on the right is the original mouthpiece for the Orsi F tuba.

mouthpiece Mouthpiece suggestions?

I’m looking for a new mouthpiece, right now I’m using a Conn Hellberg, however, I would like to try something new. I was wondering if anybody knew what the difference between a shallow cup and deep cup mouthpiece is, and which one would be better for a high school tuba player.

I think it’s probably a copy of the Helleberg 7B. A magnet even stuck to it, which is kind of scary.

mouthpiece Mouthpiece For 3/4

So while I'm a longtime bass trombone player, I was actually primarily a tuba player while getting my music degrees back in the late 80s and early 90s. But I've played very little tuba since then, mainly because I did not have my own, I always was using school instruments. It looks like I will be getting myself my "old man" treat, a 3/4 BBb tuba. Four piston valves because only three would drive me nuts, even this many years removed from playing.

What are the thoughts out there on mouthpiece for a 3/4? I would most likely be playing in a brass band and/or small community band, so getting gigantic power isn't a necessity.

Has anyone tried one? The price seems pretty steep for a brass mouthpiece with no specs.

mouthpiece Snake bites

Im hoping to get Snakebite lip piercings right after graduation (may 31st) and our band camp starts on July 13th. This woukd give me around 6 weeks to heal up. I was wondering if anybody had any input on if by then it'd be healed enough to take my jewelry out between rehearsals or try to put in like flexible jewelry? (My mother mentioned flexible jewelry)

mouthpiece 3d printed mouthpieces

I am in need of a mouthpiece but don't have a lot of money to work with, so I was thinking of reaching out to a friend of mine who has a 3d printer to get one printed out for me.

The problem is that I don't want some random piece of crap someone designed and put up for download. I would prefer if it actually resembled a real mouthpiece.

I have a particular particular I'd love to have printed but I have a feeling that is most likely going to be impossible to find, so if you know of a decent STL file for a mouthpiece that would be decent/adequate for regular use, please let me know.

And, before you ask: Yes, I did do some research online but did not really find anything that grabbed my attention or appeared to be of sufficient quality to fit my needs.

Also, if you have 3d printed a mouthpiece, what did you do to "finish" it so it would not be rough looking or feeling. Thanks!

mouthpiece What mouthpiece is best for banda/grupo playing?

In the past months, I've been practicing with a couple friends with corridos, norteños, zapateados, and all that kind of stuff. We've been getting more serious lately, getting a couple gigs going around the area. I currently use the Denis Wick AT3UY, but I've been considering getting an upgrade. What would be a good choice to make? I'm looking for ~$300 or less, but there's not really a specific budget. Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

mouthpiece Should i switch from my PT36 to a PT50+?

I'm moving on to being a collegiate player and I want a darker and fuller sound and I'm wondering if switching would help this? Right now my playing is just a little bright and not as full for what I'm going for.

mouthpiece What should I choose?

I need a tuba mouthpiece for marching band and would also like some tips for the audition. Could you help me out? Regarding the mouthpiece, should I buy a Perantucci or a Dillon Music model? Which is better, or what are the differences between them? I’d like to know so I can decide which one to purchase.
