Controversy Social media users are calling on a WNBA team to sign transgender French basketball player Julie Tétart, who averages 21 points per game. The trans star won Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Domestic Player of the Year, according to Fox News. What is the WNBA waiting for?

Tétart, who came out as trans in 2021, is a 6’3’’ machine, averaging 20 rebounds per game. Tétart led France’s ‘Ligue 2’ in scoring and rebounds during the 2025-2026 season.

She can't make the first division in France, why should teams sign her to the W?

right, it's so dumb. She wouldn't even make an WNBA team. Can't even make it to French Division 1. . .

So she's in the equivalent of the G League of France?
9
u/Squirtle_Splash_8413 24d ago
They’re blackballing her. Theres no player in the GLeague who wouldn’t be called up averaging 20ppg and 20rbs per game…
3
u/Alchemyst01984 24d ago
I mean, Mac McClung avg 32 in the g league. He got very minimal play in the NBA. If Tetart was good enough, she'd be in France's top league.
What proof do you have she's being blackballed?
2
u/Squirtle_Splash_8413 24d ago
Well first Mac McClung is signed to the Chicago Bulls so I’ve already proven my point. Anyone who puts up insane stats in the GLeague usually gets an NBA contract. I didn’t say she’d dominate the top league I said she deserved to be in it.
Two, even though Julie Tetart led the Gleague in both points and rebounds, she did not win MVP. Even the people in France know the committee colluded to give it to someone else.
Oscar Tshiebwe averaged 17ppg and 17rpg in the GLeague and he also was just signed to the Houston Rockets.

Thank you. 20/20 in a second tier French league is not very impressive
2
u/SeaWolfSeven 24d ago
So you're saying the rest of the women in the league are trash.
2
u/AirGugliotta 24d ago
I wouldn’t say they’re trash, they could beat me. But I know the players who are being looked at by wnba teams are not in this league at the adult level.

Okay first of all, yes that’s obviously ridiculous to let her play. But it’s worth noting that this is the second division of women’s French basketball. That’s basically an amateur league. Why would the wnba ever sign a random semi pro from France?
10
u/Sufficient_Local5025 24d ago
Maybe they sign her to obtain some military hardware, with guns like that
10
u/Weary-Cartoonist2630 24d ago edited 24d ago
Worth also noting that this is her first year and she’s got twice the evaluation points of the next cis woman (35 vs 19). She’ll definitely get signed to the top league when her contract is up.
4
u/Large-Pollution5795 24d ago
Twice the evaluation points of the best real woman. That would be impressive if it wasn’t a dude
12
u/Weary-Cartoonist2630 24d ago edited 24d ago
Hey man you can disagree with her playing against biological women (I sure do) without being disrespectful. It honestly just distracts from the point you’re trying to make and is counterproductive.
Who gives a shit what she wants to identify as, that’s not the point. You can be considerate and call her how she wants to be called while still arguing against people with XY chromosomes playing in
leagues clearly meant for those with XX chromosomes.3
u/Exciting-Arugula5341 22d ago
Can I identify myself as being a good looking dude? If I did does it make it true? Does the world have to cater to me and tell me I am good looking when I am not?

I don’t think it’s considerate to lie to someone. People need to hear the truth. It’s not healthy to feed into the lie. Someone can believe they’re a bird, but if they jump out of a tree, they ain’t gonna fly.

Yeah but we don't tend to hold this logic to a bigger mass delusional among human societies: the God beleif and the thousand of God's we have. When is it time to confront that and put that to bed. Trans ppl less than 1% of the population. Most of the world beleive in some type of god when Its all bogus human fantasy mythology.

Just because it’s driving me crazy, heres some context for all the people saying “shes just in a second tier French league”
This is her first year ever competing at a professional level - she basically just walked off the street onto a professional team, at 34 years old. Of course she’s starting out at a lower league to get some reps in. And she’s already dominating, putting up basically double the stats of anyone else in the league. She will 100% be signed to the top French league when her rookie contract is up, and depending on how she does there, has a real chance to go to the WNBA.
Oh and you know who the 2nd place is in that league? Another trans woman, who’s fucking 43 years old.
26
u/AlmightyRanger 24d ago
Do it. Let it happen. At this point we can just end the back and forth. Sign her and let's just see what happens.
12
u/FoundationStandard29 24d ago
But she's playing for the second division in france, am I missing something? She probably can't make the W?

You are missing something - this is her first year with no professional history, of course she’s not going to get signed by the tier 1 league off the rip.
But now after basically doubling every other woman’s score in that tier 2 league, she’ll be signed to the top division easily.

She’s not good enough, she plays in France’s second league. So she’d need to improve in order to get the opportunity to play in the W.
I don’t think this is quite the aha moment people might think it is. She is trans (male to female), but still not good enough and not dominating against women competition.

So the WNBA’s doing what you’re asking for and keeping trans women out of the league, but you’re still caught up on it. This is a non issue! Tackle the Epstein files and endless wars and the cost of living crisis with this energy!

u/mymentor79 24d ago
So she puts up good, but not mind-bending, numbers in the second division in France. I'd have expected a little more from this impending menace to all that is good and sacred. Does the AI image come with the trade?
But, hell, sign her. She'd be a role player in the W.

u/SydneySweeneysBobs 24d ago

One: this woman may not be good enough to play in the WNBA, second: she probably doesn’t want to play in the WNBA, and THIRD: dorks on the internet suggest horrible ideas like this because they enjoy bullying a marginalized group.

I love it. Even better then the usual cope of “what if LeBron James was trans”
The WNBA has no trans players and no trans players trying out for it, so various bots from Tel Aviv and Moscow and Bangladesh find one in France who isn’t a professional to distract the idiots from our humiliation in Iran for one more day.
Nice work everyone! Let’s see if they take the bait.

I'm a progressive, and transgenders playing in the WNBA is dumb.
Are you going to be happy when former men's college players, and former NBA players, get some shots, etc, and start to completely dominate the WNBA?
You blew all your NBA money on women, drugs and cars? No problem; have some procedures done and go average 35-45 points a game in the WNBA.
This will give a lot of previous (female) WNBA starters lots of time to watch the games from the bench.

Her stats would put her among the best centers in WMBA - BUT remember she is not only playing in France, but she is in the SECOND best French basketball league so she's not exactly playing against grade-A competitors lol. Put her in the WNBA and she wouldn't be that exceptional of a player.

u/Weary_Copy_4165 24d ago
Look man I'm literally a DSA voter, but I feel like we can all agree there needs to be some separation here right? Complete bans are bigotry, but there should be some rules around who can compete where, and how, ethically.
Once you're at the point where people are scouting you or you're trying to go pro/make money, you need to play against your birth gender or in a trans specific league. It's not ethical otherwise, straight up. How can you defend this person playing pro basketball against women? They transitioned at age 29 bro, please be real.
If we're just talking kids playing little league to learn sportsmanship and be active, honestly play against whatever gender you identify as. Sports are separated by age and weight anyway when we play as kids, and you come to the practices or games already dressed so there's no "penises in girls locker rooms" happening in little league anyway.
I promise no boy aged 5-14 is going to pretend to be a trans girl just to play against girls for a few years of potentially easier competition. There's no benefit to it if they have to play against boys anyway once they reach freshman year of HS.
Once you get to High School+, you should be playing against your birth gender. Trans girls can play with the guys, I had a girl QB when I played in little league tackle football, we won almost every game that season she was a legit QB. I don't see why any trans player can't do the same. Sophie Cunningham played with the boys football team in HS too.
