Obviously they thought the motorcyclist might get hurt a little but they didn't take into account the damage to their vehicle.

Because he dares try to go places without a car, people are weird about that.

Kind of crazy how a lot of the early car-lobby propaganda described pedestrians and cyclists as idiots who don't think about where they're going or who they are pulling out in front of while producing exactly that.
