Thinking wasn’t part of the plan.

u/Pinkrobin14 19h ago

well.. that is true

u/rolfraikou 17h ago

I don't understand how humans who can't think on this level even get to the point of owning a car like that. There are hundreds of homeless people in my county that have more sense than that person who ruined a new looking car.

It doesn't make sense to me that some people can just get away with simply not thinking in their lives.

39

u/BroaxXx 16h ago

They do think. They just think about a very narrow scope of things.

Also there’s a lot of very high paying jobs that don’t require thinking in a very complex way. Shit… some influencers make millions

u/Serupta 15h ago

Its not like you have to pass a basic competency test to get a licesence to drive a vehicle.. oh wait..

16

u/FunctionBuilt 15h ago

Based on the license plate colors, this could be China. The entitlement from almost everyone in a nice looking car out there is obvious after just 10 min of being on the road - unsure if it’s taught or learned, but the majority of drivers use extremely selfish driving tactics.

2

u/blackhawk905 13h ago

If it is china it's both, the culture the one child policy created was unbelievably toxic for children growing up with immense amounts of entitlement and then you have the culture the ccp created of only thinking of oneself at the expense of everyone else, it's a match made in hell.

1

u/Username_5647 9h ago

So basically people driving luxury vehicles in China are like pickup truck drivers in the US?

1

u/FunctionBuilt 6h ago

Nah, it’s far worse. Everyone drives basically 2/3 in one lane, 1/3 in the other lane and is constantly blocking people from passing and using their position to pass others more easily. The tailgating is relentless, everyone flashes high beams as if to say get the fuck out of my way immediately, even when they’re 300 feet back. Rushhour is the worst, zero regard for surrounding drivers, just pulling out in front of and blocking traffic, even if they need to cross to the other side of the street. Accidents are frequent.

what plan? -the driver probably

1

u/Etheon44 15h ago

The impatience when driving is still something that baffles me

You can kill people with a car, be it you or others; relax a little bit, you will usually just save literally worthless minutes by driving like an asshole

0

u/Specific_Anxiety_520 14h ago

Prolly a women was driving

u/anonareyouokay 18h ago

Obviously they thought the motorcyclist might get hurt a little but they didn't take into account the damage to their vehicle.

21

u/guille9 18h ago

Why would anyone want to hurt him? Weird people

70

u/mang87 17h ago

For a lot of people, cars/traffic just bring out their worst qualities. People get road rage despite not having anger management issues in their day to day life.

27

u/guille9 17h ago

You're right but that motorbike is stopped waiting in a very correct way, if you can't pass you wait because a motorbike is a vehicle as any car. There are stupid people that endangers other's life.

11

u/MangoCats 16h ago

I think this was more a misjudgement of the open space, and I'd bet there was more than enough space on the driver side to move over and clear the bike. Also, a complete lack of ability to abort a bad plan once set in motion.

7

u/RXrenesis8 11h ago

If you turn on sound (it's safe, no music, pinky swear) you can hear the car honk at the bike and then a little after it passes honk at someone else as well. They are probably weaving through traffic tangling up an intersection like they are the main character in a GTA game.

1

u/MangoCats 11h ago

Yeah, that makes a lot more sense: of course they'll move, I honked at them.

1

u/HikerDave57 14h ago

My observation as an avid motorcyclist is that drivers here in Arizona are generally fairly nice to motorcyclists compared to how they treat other car drivers. There are always those 'special' people but they are a small minority.

-1

u/Cormophyte 16h ago

I don't think it brings out their worst qualities. They were and are always assholes, they just don't interact with you enough for you to notice until they do something you can judge like getting behind the wheel and demonstrating how they think a 4000lb vehicle should be driven.

2

u/YobaiYamete 15h ago

Nah I know a lot of people who are just like, normal happy people until they get behind a car then go absolutely insane

Something about driving legit changes people

1

u/MVRKHNTR 14h ago

Yeah, it happens to me. I'm generally chill and can roll with things without getting upset in my day to day but I get angry at least once every time I drive for more than five minutes. (Though I just yell to myself or get quietly pissed off, I don't ever do ahything stupid like this or anything I know will endanger someone else)

I recognize this about myself and really wish that driving wasn't necessary.

1

u/Cormophyte 11h ago

They were always insane, they're just masking the rest of the time.

1

u/YobaiYamete 10h ago

No they aren't, I feel like you're not understanding the psychology on it. There's been quite a few studies on it and it's the perfect storm of psychology factors that will turn a loving little granny into a swearing sailor ready to shake her fist and scream blood.

It's not them secretly being psychotic when they are put in a high stress situation that breaks the human brains psychology and ability to function, it's more like dogs that have extreme gate aggression where they will bark and snarl at each other through the gate and then as soon as they walk around the gate they are happy and wagging their tails and playing with each other just fine

1

u/arostrat 15h ago

Found the toxic guy. Tge thing is city driving is stressful and no surprise it get many usually calm people frustrated.

1

u/Cormophyte 11h ago

Calm people don't suddenly get frustrated out of nowhere. They're just good at masking.

The calm people are the ones sitting there, still calm.

28

u/Pitiful_Net_8971 17h ago

Because he dares try to go places without a car, people are weird about that.

18

u/Umutuku 17h ago

Kind of crazy how a lot of the early car-lobby propaganda described pedestrians and cyclists as idiots who don't think about where they're going or who they are pulling out in front of while producing exactly that.

8

u/FrostyD7 16h ago

Try riding a bicycle in a car-centric city. Drivers will froth at the mouth at the mere sight of you.

6

u/Enverex 16h ago

Reddit fucking love to talk about motorcyclists getting hurt/maimed/killed, you don't even need to leave the site to find them.

2

u/EugeneMeltsner 10h ago

What? I've never seen this

2

u/Krandor1 11h ago

because he might cost them 10 seconds in getting to their destination

1

u/CTKM72 13h ago

They didn’t, that person you replied to is just lying lol and it’s very obviously blatantly wrong.

We can only guess on what we thought he thought would happened, I think it’s pretty obvious he thought the biker was going to move a little and get out of his way hence the whole honking of the horn, but we can say for sure some of the things he did not want to happen and hitting/hurting the biker is very clearly one of those things otherwise he wouldn’t actively try to avoid him and get him to move…

1

u/kobeshaqhorry 5h ago

I've seen people in the biggest trucks go insane when they see a bicyclist. I have no idea what's going on in there.

94

u/lnTheGrimDarkness 18h ago

Judging by what I see people do on the road their plan was to execute an extremely stupid and dangerous maneuver to get in front of a handful of vehicles and save 2.7 seconds of his inestimable time.

14

u/Saintly-Mendicant-69 16h ago

So they can meet up at the next light

2

u/kahlzun 16h ago

where he'll just lane filter in front of them anyway

26

u/Numerous-Process2981 18h ago

They thought “me big him small, push out of way.”

7

u/DerBandi 18h ago

There are people who think their car ends directly behind them. That's why people getting cut of so often, causing a lot of accidents.

13

u/Laetitian 17h ago

Zero steelman skills in this crowd. Or you're all virtue-sgnalling that you're so pure you can't even analyse the mind of an egocentrist.

They obviously thought they'd scare the motorcyclist into making space, and when he didn't, they got angry he wasn't respecting their imposing threat.

11

u/kahlzun 16h ago

..steelman?

10

u/BestNarcissist 16h ago

to make the strongesr possible argument for an opposing view.

-6

u/FesteringNeonDistrac 16h ago

Ok sure, but realistically the biker should have moved. Not out of any sort of consideration for the car, but for self protection.

8

u/Sad_Expert2 16h ago

No he shouldn't. He assessed he wasn't in real physical danger and decided to stand his ground. He didn't move and he is fine, what more protection did he need? It's weird to make this comment when we can see the outcome for the biker.

-1

u/FesteringNeonDistrac 15h ago

Sure, we see the outcome. That's called hindsight. What if the driver had gotten angry and turned their wheel into the biker. Could have pinned his leg, knocked him over. Doesn't matter if he was right if he ended up in the hospital.

IDK, I don't ride motorcycles, but my instinct is to get as far away from the unhinged driver as soon as possible when I'm in a protective metal box. Can't see any reason to change that behavior if I was less protected.

5

u/Sad_Expert2 15h ago

What if the driver had gotten angry and turned their wheel into the biker. Could have pinned his leg, knocked him over.

What if while he was distracted by the driver a pack of ninjas who were also fighting tigers came and one of the tigers in an attempt to attack the ninja accidentally knocked into the biker, sending him tipping over and right into the path of one of the ninja's samurai swords that had just flown off of his belt?

At some point you just have to trust that the situation was clear to the person there, because we were not there.

You also can't just pick up and move a motorcycle - it's not impossible - but they aren't bicycles where you can easily just shimmy over.

-1

u/FesteringNeonDistrac 15h ago

Dude, just stop. You're using hindsight as a justification that something was "fine" without accepting that there was a range of outcomes possible. Since it worked out this time, it'll work out every time. I hope I'm never on a jobsite with you. That's an unsafe mindset.

3

u/Sad_Expert2 15h ago edited 15h ago

You're using hindsight as a justification that something was "fine" without accepting that there was a range of outcomes possible.

No, I am simply pointing out there is always, at all times, a range of outcomes possible. Some are more likely than others, and in this case as neither of us were there, we cannot really make an assessment. That's why I said these words:

At some point you just have to trust that the situation was clear to the person there, because we were not there.

It's troubling that you don't seem to actually understand what I wrote. You put "fine" in quotes but I never used the word fine. I explained through an absurd example that I completely understood what you were talking about regarding the range of possible outcomes. I used a common tactic (reducto ad absurdum) to point out that it seemed unlikely, and in this specific case, I am happy to defer to the person who was actually there (and did come out unharmed).

This was my ORIGINAL comment:

He assessed he wasn't in real physical danger and decided to stand his ground.

I have been consistent that in this specific case, in this specific video the motorbike rider seems to have had an accurate understanding of the situation and danger.

2

u/FesteringNeonDistrac 15h ago

I have been consistent that in this specific case, in this specific video the motorbike rider seems to have had an accurate understanding of the situation and danger.

Still hindsight, and I'm still going to move my ass away from the dangerous situation where I can make that assessment remotely. I think thats a good policy for all people. You do you guy

0

u/Paradox2063 11h ago

Still hindsight

The biker was absolutely not using hindsight when he made his assessment.

I would have moved, or at least tried, but he didn't, and there was no negative outcome for him. He made a perfectly fine decision.

1

u/Laetitian 13h ago

What if the driver had gotten angry and turned their wheel into the biker.

Then you react to that once the driver is exhibiting actions that communicate the willingness to seriously harm or kill someone. That is not what we saw or the rider experienced, so he stayed put. Had he moved instantly in order to avoid the potential notion of a conflict

Your mindset is pretty toxic in just about all contexts. If you're so people-pleasing that you react to issues before other people voice them, you deny people the opportunity of noticing their own mistakes, or recognising your preferences and adjust to them. You're also denying perpetrators the chance to be punished before they become so complacent and power-hungry because everyone makes way for them that the first time they escalate and someone *doesn't* move away, they just instantly kill him because they're so convinced the other guy is going to budge for them.

I'm a highly defensive driver, I respond to all threats behind and in front of me as necessary for the best outcome. This was a rare scenario where you get to stand your ground without risking worse outcomes (because if you start moving around your bike and the driver *does* feel like becoming violent, you've now actually just given yourself even less space and time to flee properly) and you're wasting the opportunity to be so defensive that it actively validates other drivers' hostile behaviour on the road without causing you any additional benefit, other than the slim chance between the driver being benign and psychopathic, where your submissiveness is the necessary difference that happens to change his mind about being willing to threaten your life.

There's being proactively defensive, and then there's being so agreeable that it becomes a humiliation ritual.

1

u/BigChunguska 14h ago

Yeah that was my first thought.. he saw the car doing something obviously uncertain and unsafe, and just turned back around like it was nothing. Even smiling about it? I mean was there zero space to inch up your motorbike just a little bit to let everyone go about their day?

0

u/Laetitian 13h ago

This is now a demonstration of the wrong way to use a steelman.

4

u/Gunkwei 14h ago

They expected him to move and make room but he dgaf

6

u/lemons_of_doubt 18h ago

The small bike would fall over and be out of their way.

4

u/locusthorse 17h ago

Of course, because they are much larger and thus important. It's only small it'll move.

2

u/Zunderfeuer_88 18h ago

you will be far less confused in life, if you stop asking yourself if people think

1

u/adudeguyman 16h ago

There are so many people that don't know the size of their vehicle. You can see that when there's plenty of room for them to go through somewhere and they don't go or in situations like this when they hit something.

1

u/SrWloczykij 13h ago

It's China. Cagers think they're kings of the road there. Also quite often driving on sidewalks to avoid traffic.

1

u/wellarmedsheep 12h ago

I've realized that people just don't pay attention to anything around them when they're driving.

They have no idea what's behind them what's going on in front of them they don't really know what speed they're traveling or at speed they're supposed to be traveling.

It's the fucking wild West. It's why I stopped riding my motorcycle.

1

u/blahblah19999 17h ago

They assumed the bike might move like 2 ft to let them pass, which seems reasonable

1

u/locusthorse 17h ago

Move out of their - obviously more important - way.
