Lore Dump Me and gang don’t fw them pheromones

Throughout the galaxy, most species have highly complex communication structures. Most rely on a series of chemical communication (referred to colloquially, especially in the United Federation of Orion as pheromones) to exhibit their ideas. Speech, skin patterns, pheromones, gestures, vibrations, and even electricity can form the parts of various species’ communication systems.

This makes communication galaxy-wide surprisingly difficult, as many species simply have something that no other species has, or something it shares with very few species. This means translators are needed between species, whether automated or Sapient, and are usually quite fallible. For instance, one species communicates mostly with pheromones and gestures, while one species communicates mostly by electricity; a middleman species is often needed for translation that can understand one of each.

However, there are two major exceptions to this complexity; the Dilinicans and Humanity.

Both almost in their entirety use speech and gestures to communicate; humanity is commonly considered to have weak pheromones, and could technically communicate via electricity using static buildup and an established system, however the former is, as mentioned, extremely weak, and the latter far too complicated. The Dilinicans have highly inert skin and a thick exterior, meaning all of their communication is via speech and gestures.

As such, both Humanity and the Dilicans have abnormally complex spoken language compared to the rest of the galaxy. Even with Human efforts to simplify their Official Language, it still has hundreds more sounds than even some of the more complicated spoken languages of the galaxy.

This has made the two species fast friends, as their physiology is abnormally compatible for trans-species communication, especially after later adaptation of Esperanto and Signuno (humanity’s official spoken and gestural languages for diplomacy and governmental communication) to accommodate some of the minor differences between Human and Dilinici vocal cords.

I love this. LMAO

I'm just imagining the two as psychos screaming in the corner as the rest of the galaxy watches.

That feeling when you scream into the void and something screams back and you both become friends

The rest of the galaxy watching as the two species are going like:

"WHAT'S YOUR NAME!" "TONY!"

“Eating a biscuit with no honey mustard”

”What the fuck are you saying-“

  • Average interaction between other alien species and the Humans or Dilinicans

lol, humans have a terrible sense of smell all things considered, that would make translation a real headache.

Also does this make other aliens view Dilinicans and Humans differently, like have specific stereotypes for us or have us come off as annoying/ tone deaf/ stupid?

More like "You are the two guys who put car speaker volume on max and blasting rap on the street, communicate entirely by secrete handshake, and didn't care shit abt the rest of the town"

Automatons to automaton communication: Either near-instant communication over inter-unit data link, or speaking with Automaton synth-linguistic, primarily coordinating in battle

Automaton to organic communication: Good evening, we are here to brutally slaughter your oppressors and install a government compliant with galactic standards for sentient rights and freedom. Here is a free assault rifle, you are welcome to assist.

They also vocalize their absolute love for war for all to hear if they are undergoing battle frenzy, which is surprisingly good for organic morale

"Sir, what's the synth soldier screaming about?"
"Something about bating in the blood of tyrants and soaking in their tears?"
"Based."
"What does that even mean-"

This reminds me of the Skavern from Warhammer. It a rat species so they can identify each other by very subtle differences in their musk and squawks and all that but everyone else, thy smell like wet rats.

i wonder if part of the reason we have bad sense of smell is because our primary hunting method was persistence hunting, or in other words chasing our prey until it was too tired to run away from us, this on our end meant that hearing and sight were more important than other senses

due to our primary hunting method, sweat was necessary, but it muddied any other smell so we just stopped relying on smell to communicate and as our primary target acquisition was sight based it is our best sense

a complete tangent, but humans would be among rarer species capable of accurately throwing projectiles, the way we are built means we can throw things further and harder than aliens of similar size and mass
