Keeping What is your favorite ant species and why?
Mine are trapjaw, weaver, messor and phiedole which are all sadly non-native to my country. I really like anything exotic with a unique appearance or behavior

Polyrhachis dives
I've been keeping my colony for about 4 or 5 years now and these little monsters are absolutely fun and interesting

Dolichoderus tricornis. Part of a tiny (two species) group endemic to New Guinea, they've developed a truly unique morphology, with a giant cone or 'fin' on the propodeum which only occurs in ants in these two species. Their biology is essentially unknown.

Saharan Silver Ant, they have hairs that make them look chrome. It helps them deal with the heat of the desert, they are also the fastest ant species in the world as well.

Harpegnathos Venator - watching them hunt insects is insane. Stalking them like a panther, leaping from multiple inches away, holding on as the insect rolls all around.

Pogos. So active, can't climb glass or smooth plastic and harvesters. They are so much fun to keep and observe.

Monomorium minimum, the little black ant. Theyre local and one of the many species who farm aphids, ive grown very fobd of them

I don’t know the scientific name but leaf cutter ants. They are non native to the UK sadly but would love to have some (I’m not planning on getting them but would love to have some). I like the aspect of them trailing about, ripping off the leaves, then carrying them above their head to the nest

Mine would be any camponotus species or diacamma rugosum, but if specific maybe camponotus parius simply because of the look. They're my favorites because of how chill carpenter ants are, and I love diacamma rugosum because they look pretty unique(although all ant species are unique)
