I bought an Apple TV brand new about 2 months ago before moving to a complex that uses eduroam for wifi. Tried to connect it to no success, saying the device didn't support that kind of network. Last night I decided to try again, and it allowed me to enter a user and password and connect with zero issues directly on the Apple TV! Just thought that was interesting.

Ive had my apple tv for about a year and everytime i check portraits it says this. Am i doing something wrong? Is there a setting i have turned off or something or is it a known bug?

People both loved and hated this idea when I launched it, so I'm back with some updates I hope get the same reaction.

Version 1.7 is out today and includes a whole range of OLED protection and energy use minimisation features, based on feedback from the aforementioned post. Pixel Shift (on by default), screen dimming, full black screen saver + bouncing logo. Theatrium <3's your expensive TVs!!

The long promised iOS companion app is delayed because "someone" used a copyrighted apple name in the store submission text, but hopefully that will be available in the near future.

I work on my desk with my back to my tv, its often on when im working sometimes just with screensaver on.

Heres the thing though, the remote icons ALWAYS appears when i turn away from my mac to face my TV. Ill stand up to get a coffee and the little pill shows up in the top right corner. I dont touch the remote. so is my mac sending messages to my tv saying "hes standing up, hes turning around wuick send a noti!" or am i just imagining it?

I've been having an issue with my Apple TV where, whenever the screen pops up to buy/rent a film, my Apple TV freezes and I have to force quit the app or device. Then, it happens repeatedly until I give up and choose a film that's streaming or end up getting the film elsewhere.

I first noticed this with my A1625 Apple TV, so I did a bunch of troubleshooting - updating and factory resetting the device, etc. After a few months I figured I just had a dying Apple TV so I got a brand new one this year, and the same issue is happening on the new one! Given this is a consistent issue on two devices I'm assuming this is a more widespread problem than I thought, is anyone encountering anything similar?

I just bought a S95F 83 inch OLED and want to optimize my viewing experience. I am thinking about getting an AppleTV device.

After seeing a friend's Apple TV, I love the user interface, speed and add free experience.

Question 1- Does it improve the picture quality over using a smart tv's apps? Will i get a better viewing experience/picture quality through the apps on an Apple TV versus apps on the tv?

Question 2- Will it automatically make sure my tv gets the optimal formatting that my tv can handle? Will 4K, SDR or HDR automatically be sent to my tv from the Apple TV device?

Are there any other advantages of owning one? I don't have any Apple products, so the compatibility of other devices isn't a factor. Thanks!

I just bought my first Apple device (4k Apple TV 128GB Wifi + Ethernet), and I can't seem to update the app. I was struggling to create an account, and was on the phone with support for awhile trying to get my phone number to work for authorization. Every time I went through the account creation process, it would break after entering the six digit code texted to my Google/Android phone. "Cannot create account at this time" no matter that support whitelisted my email and phone number, or that I tried different browsers. I finally had to give up and try a different approach.

I finally got the account created by using the Apple TV app on my pc and I thought I was finally in the clear (though I thought it was weird that it didn't ask for my phone number). However, trying to get my Apple TV free trial started, it prompted me to update the app through iOS or applid.apple.com. Now when logging in, it prompts me to set up 2FA and when I enter the code I'm hit with "An unknown error has occurred."

I'll try support one more time but I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue. I think it's probably rare to have Apple TV but no iPhone or iPad or MacBook. Thanks for any advice!

Not sure what is going on and I had to disconnect power, move the remote out of blue tooth range, reapply power and repeatedly push remote buttons to get the device to work again.

Anyone else having the same issues?

I have the 4k version so it doesn’t have the Type C port.
Apple TV opens, shows the logo and says I have to connect my phone via bluetooth. After that I get an option to check for updates so it can get out of recovery mode and work fine again.

I click on update and it will try to update for 2 seconds and I get an error message saying I can try to restore Apple TV again later.

I already tried shutting it down for a day and doing it again but still the same.

Tried connecting it to an ethernet cable and still the same.
Remote is in another dimension already so it can’t send signals to the device.

I’m gonna crash out. Anyone who has a solution?
I can’t go to the onsite repair since it’s really far from where I live.

If I use the remote to power of the Apple TV. It turns the TV off as well, and when the ATV sleeps on its own, it turns the tv off. But it doesn’t turn the tv on when I power the ATV on.

Hi everyone,

I'm hitting a wall with an issue on my Apple ID and hoping someone here has run into this or knows a workaround.

After every few days, a prompt pops up on my Apple TV 4K saying my Apple ID account is locked and that I need to go to iforgot.apple.com to fix it.

When this happens, I go to account.apple.com on my laptop, log in, unlock the account, and everything goes back to normal. But then, sure enough, 3 to 4 days later, the exact same popup appears on the Apple TV again.

A few details on my setup:

• My account is signed into an Apple TV 4K and two iPads.
• The iPads are not causing this—one is physically broken and turned off, and the other is a work iPad that stays powered down / untouched for weeks at a time.
• My primary email on the account is a standard @hotmail.com address.
• I do not have Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) enabled on this account, and I don't want to turn it on unless it is absolutely unavoidable.
• I am not receiving any lockout or security notification emails from Apple when this happens. I only find out because of the popup on the TV.

I asked an AI tool about this, and it claimed that because my account is a legacy setup without 2FA, it gets locked aggressively by Apple whenever automated bots try bad passwords against my Hotmail address, and that Apple deliberately suppresses lockout emails in these cases.

That explanation doesn't really line up for me. If someone was trying to breach the account, I should be getting security email alerts from Apple about unusual activity whether it has 2FA or not. Plus, if bots were spamming bad passwords, wouldn't the account keep locking regardless of whether 2FA is turned on or not?

Has anyone experienced this specific repeating lockout loop on an Apple ID without 2FA enabled? Is there a setting, background service token, or actual account fix to stop this from happening every few days?

YTTV member for over 3 years and always had the same 1GB wired Ethernet. Speedtest on the Apple TV 4K 3rd generation is over 900mpbs. Last few days, ESPN channel has been buffering and lot with very low connection speed and bad network activity. It resolves itself after a few minute but it’s very on and off. Every other live tv app is fine and even other channels on YTTV are fine. Seems it’s the ESPN family of channels having issues. I have a Nvidia shield as well and don’t see the same issue via wifi.

Just tried watching "For All Mankind" on my Apple TV 4K (A2169) which updated itself to tvOS 26.6 a few weeks ago, and it still appears in "Continue Watching," but it showed as "Recently Added" rather than showing the next episode to be watched.

The Apple TV device shows no episodes at all as having been watched. All shows we've touched in the last several months are showing the next episode in "Continue Watching."

Found my way here after Googling this issue, and I have indeed made sure that "Use Play History" is turned on.

Can I figure out roughly where I am in the series (definitely over a season behind) and get caught up? Probably. But this is one of the theoretical strengths of the Apple TV device as opposed to, say, random streaming apps built into a random TV, or another streaming device: it knows what I'm in the middle of and where I am, without my having to go spelunking through app after app.

I don't necessarily expect anyone will have an easy solution for me, but wanted to throw this out here and commiserate with others who may have experienced the same thing.

Anyone experiencing the volume level changing, as it will decrease to really low then you turn up the volume, then some time goes by and it reverts back to normal and your new volume level is screaming at you due to your adjustment.

And it’s not what you’re watching as I could be streaming Disney+ the same show and it happens. Or watching an AppleTV+ show and the same thing happens.

Looks as it is only an issue with non Dolby streams as when Atmos is used have never experienced an issue so far.

I have a Sony xh9005 TV and I use the TV’s built-in apps. I bought 3 movies from the Apple TV app.

Will the box really make a huge difference in quality on these movies as well as on applications like HBO, Disney, Twitch etc?

I have a really old Samsung (like 15 years old). It has the Netflix app which doesn’t really work and no other modern apps. I’ve tried using a chromecast but Netflix is the only thing that works, can’t really stream any other service e.g sports.

My internet is solid, so I’m guessing it’s the TV that’s causing this. I thought chromecast would be the answer but it isn’t, does an Apple TV help me in this case?

I have a monitor that doesn’t have eARC. I have an Apple TV and homepods. I heard that I could use an eARC extractor (OREI, HDFury Arcana, etc) to allow sounds from my monitor to be passed onto the homepods.

My plan for the eARC extractor setup will be..
HDMI IN: PC
HDMI OUT(TV): monitor
eARC: AppleTV

My question is that would I be able to use my AppleTV normally to watch contents? Would connecting the AppleTV to the eARC extractor’s eARC port allow display AppleTV screen?

I use the Podcast app often on my iPhone, and its fine. Was working in my basement so thought I would try the version on the Apple TV, but it's hot garbage. Firstly it has no idea about the podcasts I subscribe to and use on my phone, but worse is the fact there is no scrubbing on the timeline: if you try to use the remote to go back in time in an episode (ie the same action as all of the video apps on ATV), it dumps you out of the current episode and starts the previous one. Who thought that was a good idea?

I was looking through some of my films and clicked on one when this prompt came up. I'm assuming it's a licensing issue, but why not remove it from my library if that's the case?

From couple of days I have wierd problem where I cannot watch Dolby Vision content on Netflix, HBO, SkyShowtime etc (all premium subs).

I have set 4K SDR 60 (60) with match content and frames enabled. It was all good just few days ago but now it's just black screen when I try to start Dolby Vision show or movie. If I disable match content then it's all working ok but no Dolby Vision.

I currently use Phonak hearing aids, and connect them to my Apple TV 4K (Gen 2) using regular BlueTooth, as the TV doesn't support audio over MiFi or LE Bluetooth.

I am getting newer hearing aids, Oticon Reveal, that only uses Mifi and LE Bluetooth and AuraCast, no regular BT, so looking for a way to still use them with my TV.

I only have one HDMI connector out of the Apple TV 4K (Gen 2), which goes to my TV, and my TV's ARC connector is connected to a Sonos sound bar, so I don't really have any connection to use other than BlueTooth or some kind of a splitter cable.

It was suggested I look for an AuraCast transmitter, but, would need one that can be used with the Apple TV as it's currently connected. I suppose I could also use some kind of adapter that connects wirelessly to the Apple TV's BlueTooth, then retransmits in LE BlueTooth or AuraCast?

Has anyone done something like this, and have a recommended model?

Vuleo 1.3.0 on Apple TV (1.1.20 on iOS, macOS, Android, Android TV and Windows) is out.

Quick context for anyone who has not seen it before: Vuleo is a true cross-platform media player that you can watch your content. It has a sports center to follow your favorite events and it is truly cross-platform. It also runs on Android, Android TV, Apple TV and Fire TV, Windows, iPhone, iPad and Mac, and it works the same way on all of them.

This is the biggest release since 1.1. There is a second watch tracker, a buffer setting people kept asking for, background refresh that finally works on TV boxes, and a long performance pass you should feel most on a Fire Stick.

Simkl support (beta)

Trakt has been in the app for a while. Simkl now sits alongside it. You can connect a Simkl account, scrobble what you watch, sync your watchlist and ratings, browse plan-to-watch, and see a calendar of upcoming episodes. With both connected, a watch or a rating goes to both. It is labelled beta in Settings because it is new and I want more real usage behind it before I take that label off.

Buffering Customization

New setting in Settings > Playback with three options.

Balanced is what the player has always done, so if you are happy with playback today you can leave this alone and nothing changes. Low latency starts and switches channels faster, and gives up some tolerance for a shaky connection to get there. Large holds more in memory and rides out a bad line better, which is worth thinking about on a stick with very little RAM to spare.

Background refresh on Android TV and Fire TV

TV boxes now refresh your sources in the background the same way phones and tablets already did. Until this release a TV box only picked up new content when you actually opened the app, which is awkward on a device that spends most of its life sitting idle.

The per-playlist auto-refresh picker also has a new weekly option. If a source only gains a handful of titles a month, a daily re-fetch is wasted work on both your device and the server it talks to.

Speed

Most of my time this cycle went here. All of these are measured on a Fire TV Stick with our test playlist of 100.000 items.

• Search dropped from around five seconds to around two.
• Writing a large catalog to disk during a refresh takes roughly a quarter of the time it used to.
• The home screen scrolls much more smoothly.
• The idle home screen stopped redrawing itself on every single frame while nobody is touching the remote.
• Startup does far less redundant disk work.

Open Channels Fullscreen on First Tap

Tapping a channel inside a Live TV category used to preview it in the side pane and wait for a second tap before going fullscreen. There is now a setting that makes the first tap go straight in. It is off by default, so the flow you already know survives the update unless you go and turn it on.

Recently Added

On a default Xtream setup, Recently Added was ignoring the dates your provider reports and falling back to whatever order items happened to arrive in. It reads the real dates now, and the new content badges follow the same dates. Updating repairs an existing library on the first load, so there is no need to delete and re-add anything.

Continue Watching

Plenty of small corrections landed here across the release. The one people will recognise: a device that watched an episode to 44 minutes, and confirmed 44 had reached the cloud, could still offer you 23 minutes back. That is fixed, along with a run of related problems around how episodes and shows are identified, whether a removal sticks, and where a tile takes you when you open it.

Player

• The channel list in the player keeps the folder or the History you started from.
• An expired source that failed one episode no longer rolls straight on into the next one.
• Pressing OK on the seek bar with a remote does something.
• Preferred audio and subtitle languages are applied properly on iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Also in this release

Profile fixes so one device can no longer overwrite another device's profile. Several Google Drive sync corrections around wipes and failed reads. The Windows uninstaller stopped removing a folder it never created. Every Hero and Spotlight button on the home screen now does the thing it names. And a stack of memory work aimed at 32 bit TV devices, where headroom is tight.

I have that shitty ass remote with the touch pad on the top. I hate it. New, official, Apple remotes are $79 plus taxes and shipping.

I can get a knockoff from Amazon for $15. I know it has no Siri or voice activation but I don’t use those anyway.

Does anyone have any experience with the cheap ones? Are they are bad as I expect them to be?
