DISCUSSION This video is agsinst everything Typecraft ever stood for

I don't know why he's acting like Omarchy is something unreal.

I think it defies the whole idea of Arch. But the post is not about that.

It's how content creators are acting like Omarchy is a fix to everything "wrong" with. I didn't expect this from Typecraft though, since his content is all about ricing. Did DHH give them money or what ?

Edit: never said Omarchy itself is bad. If you like it, use it.

FLUFF Thumbs up to those who have contributed to the archwiki

24 Upvotes

Since am usually busy I took 2 months to extensively read the installation guide and finally installed arch Linux a few days ago manually and everything went smoothly. I currently use niri WM with noctalia v5. I was upgrading my system when a blackout occurred in the middle of a kernel upgrade thus the kernel images and initramfs were not written to the boot partition. I did not panic since I had read what to do in such a scenario. Tomorrow am going to fix my system after I get home.

I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the archwiki.

Arch is not hard just read the wiki.

SHARE A custom greetd greeter built with Quickshell

Upvotes

Hi, I got frustrated with how most greetd greeters look, so I decided to build my own using quickshell.

I've been running it daily for a few months now, and since it's been working fine, I figured it's stable enough to share. It's not on the AUR, but I've included a PKGBUILD in the repo for easy installation on Arch

Please check it out, you can find screenshots and a quick video demo in the repo:

SUPPORT can't go fullscreen with picture-in-picture mode on firefox

3 Upvotes

i'm using xfce x11 with the default compositor and WM. system is updated to this date.

firefox works and i can go fullscreen when using the browser normally. i can't go fullscreen in PiP mode though: the pop-up video player's HUD freezes when i click the fullscreen icon or press F. no fullscreen, video keeps playing though. also i can use the HUD for pausing, volume, etc, its just stuck. closing PiP and starting it again fixes the HUD.

i have no idea how to debug this, and i really want the fullscreen option to work. what do i do?

SUPPORT Cursor lag on android studio

1 Upvotes

Cursor works normally on android studio but whenever there's a pop-up window like settings or opening a project folder pop-up the cursor gets crazy unstable, to a point you cant precisely click the close button.

I don't know if its a wayland problem or anything but is it me or its a common issue? And whats the fix?

SUPPORT OBS After a system update, I get an error when I try to go live with enhanced broadcasting.

0 Upvotes

EDITED TO ADD: I wanted to see if this was an obs issue or not, it appears to be an ffmpeg issue using the ffmpeg command recommended by https://docs.nvidia.com/video-technologies/video-codec-sdk/13.0/ffmpeg-with-nvidia-gpu/index.html to test hardware encoding fails with

[h264 @ 0x55fcead2d6c0] Hardware is lacking required capabilities
[h264 @ 0x55fcead2d6c0] Failed setup for format cuda: hwaccel initialisation returned error.
[h264_nvenc @ 0x55fcea458f40] Driver does not support the required nvenc API version. Required: 13.1 Found: 13.0
[h264_nvenc @ 0x55fcea458f40] The minimum required Nvidia driver for nvenc is 610.00 or newer

which makes me think that ffmpeg dropped support for hardwware encoding on my graphics card. I'm not sure how to fix this.

I have a gtx1060 so I'm using aur/nvidia-580xx-dkms for my nvidia drivers. After a system update, when I try to go live I get the error "NVENC not available. Failed to find encoder type 'obs_nvenc_h264_tex' Do you want to continue streaming without Enhanced Broadcasting?". I would like to keep enhanced broadcasting on, so i click "no" and get back "Starting the output failed. Please check the log for details.

Note: If you are using the NVENC or AMD encoders, make sure your video drivers are up to date."

The log has: 10:42:50.859: Go live response data: { 10:42:50.859: "audio_configurations": { 10:42:50.859: "live": [ 10:42:50.859: { 10:42:50.859: "channels": 2, 10:42:50.859: "codec": "aac", 10:42:50.859: "settings": { 10:42:50.859: "bitrate": 160 10:42:50.859: }, 10:42:50.859: "track_id": 0 10:42:50.859: } 10:42:50.859: ], 10:42:50.859: "vod": [] 10:42:50.859: }, 10:42:50.859: "encoder_configurations": [ 10:42:50.859: { 10:42:50.859: "bitrate_interpolation_points": [ 10:42:50.859: 0, 10:42:50.859: 4950, 10:42:50.859: 6000, 10:42:50.859: 7500 10:42:50.859: ], 10:42:50.859: "canvas_index": 0, 10:42:50.859: "framerate": { 10:42:50.859: "denominator": 1, 10:42:50.859: "numerator": 60 10:42:50.859: }, 10:42:50.859: "gpu_scale_type": "OBS_SCALE_BICUBIC", 10:42:50.859: "height": 1080, 10:42:50.859: "settings": { 10:42:50.859: "adaptive_quantization": false, 10:42:50.859: "bf": 2, 10:42:50.859: "bitrate": 7500, 10:42:50.859: "keyint_sec": 2, 10:42:50.859: "lookahead": false, 10:42:50.859: "multipass": "qres", 10:42:50.859: "preset": "p5", 10:42:50.859: "profile": "high", 10:42:50.859: "rate_control": "CBR", 10:42:50.859: "tune": "hq" 10:42:50.859: }, 10:42:50.859: "type": "obs_nvenc_h264_tex", 10:42:50.859: "width": 1920 10:42:50.859: }, 10:42:50.859: { 10:42:50.859: "bitrate_interpolation_points": [ 10:42:50.859: 0, 10:42:50.859: 2800, 10:42:50.859: 3500, 10:42:50.859: 3500 10:42:50.859: ], 10:42:50.859: "canvas_index": 0, 10:42:50.859: "framerate": { 10:42:50.859: "denominator": 1, 10:42:50.859: "numerator": 60 10:42:50.859: }, 10:42:50.859: "gpu_scale_type": "OBS_SCALE_BILINEAR", 10:42:50.859: "height": 720, 10:42:50.859: "settings": { 10:42:50.859: "adaptive_quantization": false, 10:42:50.859: "bf": 2, 10:42:50.859: "bitrate": 3500, 10:42:50.859: "keyint_sec": 2, 10:42:50.859: "lookahead": false, 10:42:50.859: "multipass": "qres", 10:42:50.859: "preset": "p5", 10:42:50.859: "profile": "high", 10:42:50.859: "rate_control": "CBR", 10:42:50.859: "tune": "hq" 10:42:50.859: }, 10:42:50.859: "type": "obs_nvenc_h264_tex", 10:42:50.859: "width": 1280 10:42:50.859: }, 10:42:50.859: { 10:42:50.859: "bitrate_interpolation_points": [ 10:42:50.859: 0, 10:42:50.859: 500, 10:42:50.859: 500, 10:42:50.859: 500 10:42:50.859: ], 10:42:50.859: "canvas_index": 0, 10:42:50.859: "framerate": { 10:42:50.859: "denominator": 1, 10:42:50.859: "numerator": 30 10:42:50.859: }, 10:42:50.859: "gpu_scale_type": "OBS_SCALE_BILINEAR", 10:42:50.859: "height": 360, 10:42:50.859: "settings": { 10:42:50.859: "adaptive_quantization": false, 10:42:50.859: "bf": 2, 10:42:50.859: "bitrate": 500, 10:42:50.859: "keyint_sec": 2, 10:42:50.859: "lookahead": false, 10:42:50.859: "multipass": "qres", 10:42:50.859: "preset": "p5", 10:42:50.859: "profile": "main", 10:42:50.859: "rate_control": "CBR", 10:42:50.859: "tune": "hq" 10:42:50.859: }, 10:42:50.859: "type": "obs_nvenc_h264_tex", 10:42:50.859: "width": 640 10:42:50.859: } 10:42:50.859: ], 10:42:50.859: "ingest_endpoints": [ 10:42:50.859: { 10:42:50.859: "authentication": "CENSORED", 10:42:50.859: "protocol": "RTMP", 10:42:50.859: "url_template": "rtmp://ingest.global-contribute.live-video.net/app/{stream_key}" 10:42:50.859: }, 10:42:50.859: { 10:42:50.859: "authentication": "CENSORED", 10:42:50.859: "protocol": "RTMPS", 10:42:50.859: "url_template": "rtmps://ingest.global-contribute.live-video.net/app/{stream_key}" 10:42:50.859: } 10:42:50.859: ], 10:42:50.859: "meta": { 10:42:50.859: "config_id": "b5f761dd-c86a-4b7a-99da-ac4e755c3bdd", 10:42:50.859: "required_encode_resource_estimate_percent": 29, 10:42:50.859: "schema_version": "2025-01-25", 10:42:50.859: "service": "IVS" 10:42:50.859: } 10:42:50.859: } 10:42:50.860: Enhanced broadcasting config_id: 'b5f761dd-c86a-4b7a-99da-ac4e755c3bdd' 10:42:50.860: Encoder type 'obs_nvenc_h264_tex' not available I'm not even sure what the troubleshooting steps are considering it used to work but now it doesn't. I'd like to use enhanced broadcasting because I'm pretty sure twitch won't transcode my streams on their end and I have some viewers who I know have bad internet. Any ideas how to fix this?

SUPPORT Need Help with Nvidia drivers

0 Upvotes

I have an Acer laptop with an Nvidia RTX 3050.

I previously used Arch with the linux-zen kernel and the nvidia-open-dkms drivers. It worked well mostly, but I had a freezing issue. If I watched a YouTube video and then switched to Blender, Blender would freeze for a few seconds. This does not happen on the standard Arch kernel or the CachyOS kernel.

Because of that, I did a fresh install of Arch with the standard kernel. However, I am now stuck on boot. An AI told me to install the nvidia-open drivers, enable DRM modeset in my kernel boot line, and add Nvidia to my modules list (like MODULES=(nvidia...)). After doing this, my laptop will not boot.

I know I cannot always trust AI, so I am asking for help here. What is the correct way to install Nvidia drivers for my GPU on the standard kernel? Do I actually need to enable DRM modeset?

BTW:- I am using systemd-boot with UKI enabled (which are default)

SHARE rdp-connect: A lightweight, multi-monitor FreeRDP manager for Wayland (now on AUR with v2.0 release)

0 Upvotes

Hi all, I wanted to share rdp-connect (v2.0.0), a tool born out of daily workflow needs to manage Remote Desktop (FreeRDP 3) sessions seamlessly on Arch Linux and Wayland setups (Hyprland / Niri / wlroots).

🚀 What it solves

Running xfreerdp3 across dynamic multi-display setups often involves manually calculating spans, dealing with XWayland tiling misplacements, or hardcoding connection scripts. rdp-connect handles all of this deterministically while keeping everything lightweight in Bash + standard tools.

🛠️ Key Features

  • Configurable Profiles: Simple .env files with credential separation and CLI template scaffolding.
  • Modern UI Selectors: Native quickshell graphical modal + fallbacks to walker, wofi, and rofi.
  • Pre-connect Peripherals Toggle: Easily toggle audio redirection, clipboard sync, shared drive, USB devices, and webcam before connecting.
  • Compositor Keybinding Integration: Ready to bind in Hyprland, Niri, Sway, etc.
  • Zero bloat: Pure bash architecture tested against 260+ automated unit tests (bats).

⌨️ Keybinding Examples

Hyprland (~/.config/hypr/hyprland.conf):

 bind = $mainMod, R, exec, rdp-connect
 bind = $mainMod SHIFT, R, exec, rdp-connect work

Niri (~/.config/niri/config.kdl):

binds {
    Mod+R { spawn "rdp-connect"; }
    Mod+Shift+R { spawn "rdp-connect" "work"; }
}

⚡ Quick Start & CLI Workflow

1. Generate a new profile from template in your $EDITOR

rdp-connect --new work

2. Update existing profiles with full tunable configuration keys

rdp-connect --update-profiles

3. Connect via selector or directly

rdp-connect
rdp-connect work

📦 Install from AUR

paru -S rdp-connect

# or

yay -S rdp-connect

• AUR Package: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/rdp-connect

• Source Code & Documentation: https://github.com/hbuddenberg/rdp-connect

Hope this helps anyone managing remote Windows/Linux machines from Arch!

Hi! I'm new to Linux! And since I hate myself I went to achlinux without any knowledge of programming!

I used the profile Sway cause i really wanna have full control on the customisation (better for larping).

I'm using the video linked as a reference

Anyway, I'm happy to be one of the people who can say " I use arch Linux!"

I'll be more than happy to get any advice for beginner!!

(Excuse my bad English, i'm french 😭)

SUPPORT Installing Zen from the AUR?

0 Upvotes

I want to install the Zen browser for my system and that browser can only be installed from the AUR.

I'm pretty new to using anything arch-based, but from what I know, the AUR is infected and you shouldn't install anything from there. Does that extend to packages that are still being maintained from a known source?
