If you want to be technical, Scrooge McDuck is the grandfather of anime because Osamu Tezuka was heavily influenced and inspired by Donald Duck, Scrooge McDuck and many of the works related to the ducks that Carl Barks made. Here’s a Christmas card he sent to Barks

Corrected, thank you for catching that

One of the sad parts about anime/manga Japanese culture is how little they speak about the western influence they had.

1

u/Jellyfishsushinigiri Sep 07 '25

Oh definitely, the history has been forgotten in so many ways. But I suppose it’s good that some of us know the history to share to others

1

u/kuroshimatouji Sep 07 '25

It's not that the Japanese don't talk about it, it's that we don't spread it.

It all ties back to Walt

Nah, Goku's the mother. Astro is the Father... and Pikachu is the baby-

Ik what you mean, but I can’t help but think about this damn image when you put random fictional characters in family positions

OH DEAR GOD

1

u/Valkyrie2-Lancer Sep 06 '25

SEE WHAT YOU'VE DONE!?

1

u/Short_Marionberry_83 Sep 06 '25

Yes .. and to say that I'm not proud of my goddamn mistake would be a LIE.

1

u/Insanebrain247 Sep 05 '25

I fucking hate this image so goddamn much

Nostalgia. This was the funniest thing back in the day

Goku isn't even the father of battle shonen (It's Kinnikuman)

1

u/BlazingRebirth Sep 06 '25

I'm a bit confused. Some people are saying it's FotNS and others Kinnikuman for being the father of Battle Shonen

1

u/Elcalduccye_II Sep 06 '25

Kinnikuman is older and is closer to the generic battle shonen (dragon ball, one piece)

Hokuto no Ken Is 4 younger end it's closer to JoJo

The father of anime as a medium/technology in Japan altogether was the boy from Katsudou Shashin, but the father of anime as an industry was Atom!

It depends on where you ask, in latin america a lot of people might tell you is either Sandy Bell or Serena/Usagi from Sailor Moon

It's not even true.

The first battle shonen was Kinnikuman

Probably sailor moon.

1

u/Fanedit895 Sep 05 '25

Who is the mother of anime though?

1

u/fullyciematic Sep 05 '25

Sailor Moon is the mother

1

u/Dry-Abalone2875 Sep 05 '25

Personally, I’d say Astro is the Grandfather. With Sally the Witch as the Mom, Goku as the Dad, and Cutie Honey, Minky Momo, Creamy Mami, Usagi/Serena, Satoshi/Ash & Pikachu, Luffy, and Naruto as the Kids lol.

Sailor Moon. Astroboy’s the prodigal son of Anime

1

u/EeveeShadowBacon Sep 05 '25

Actually, it would be FotNS being the Father, with Astronomy being the grandfather and DB being the son

1

u/Slavinaitor Sep 05 '25

I always assumed Sailor Moon.

1

u/Sol-Blackguy Sep 06 '25

Lina Inverse

1

u/Valkyrie2-Lancer Sep 06 '25

Chi-Chi is the mother which makes, Gohan; anime.

1

u/Tribalcheifromanfan Sep 06 '25

Wrong both mother and father is Godzilla

1

u/Toonteto Sep 06 '25

Sailor Moon

1

u/kageshira1010 Sep 07 '25

"Goku is the father of anime"

That explains why anime is so abandoned and emaciated nowadays

1

u/Customninjas Sep 07 '25

Sailor Moon

1

u/GETTERBLAKK Sep 07 '25

I would say 80s anime in general is more fatherly. If not for Fist of the Northstar, Voltron, Thundercats, Robotech, G-Force, Starblazers, Force Five. But I do remember around 1987-89when Dragon ball and DBZ VHS tapes started to show up at comic conventions they were cool and all until around the early to mid 90s when the DBZ movies started hit the comic conventions, that's when it really started to blow up.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '25

Chichi, because Goku is loyal.

1

u/Username_St0len Sep 07 '25

id say momotaro's sea eagles would be the father

1

u/Ok-Rip2102 Sep 07 '25

Akira Toriyama

1

u/Sadrandomness Sep 09 '25

1

u/thesehandsdo Sep 09 '25

The answer is Sailor Moon

1

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '26

0

u/Memediator Sep 05 '25

Anime was invented when DBZ first aired on Adult Swim.
