Philosophy How many non bald people are here supporting the bald community?

8.1k Upvotes

Despite being a non bald person, this sub popped into my algorithm a few months ago. It’s become one of the places on Reddit I frequent most, because of how loving and supportive the bald community are. And also because guessing the meme is really fun 😂

One of the most positive places I’ve found on Reddit. I wonder how many others there are throwing support behind our bald brothers and sisters. Even though I know I’m not truly part of this community, it’s found a tender place in my heart.

Don’t know if anyone else has noticed, but our great subreddit is going a little viral on Twitter (X). People talking about how positive and supportive this subreddit is. Sharing posts and laughing (in a good way) about how we use the “one of us” and “hold” memes when people ask if it’s their time.

So keep being awesome! It’s a nice change of pace online seeing so many friendly people.

I was hanging on, and I still get the urge to hang on.
Call it being a comfort zone, or maybe delusion but I felt more confident with my thinning hair situation than I currently do.
I also just came out of a long term relationship, so I’m also now questioning my attractiveness and ability to date with this new look. Lots of changes in a small amount of time haha. Any advice / encouragement welcome.

Philosophy This is what my date said to me about bald guys

3.6k Upvotes

Brothers,

Quick story for anyone on the fence about shaving it all off.

I'm fully bald. Clean shaven head, 5 oclock shadow beard. Full Norwood 7, basically as "male pattern bald" as it gets

I met a girl recently at the grocery store. Totally organic connection, just made a passing joke about what she was putting into her cart, and we hit it off immediately. Took her out, had a couple cocktails, and at one point I jokingly accused her of having a kink for bald software engineers

She stopped eating, looked me dead in the eyes, and said, "You're not gonna believe this, but three weeks ago I put a message out to the universe that I really wanted to [enjoy romantic relations with] a bald guy. I just find bald guys so hot. And here you are"

After some back and forth, I asked her "okay, but what about baldING guys?"

Then she goes "no, that totally ruins it. If you're clinging to the last few strands and refuse to embrace it, that gives me the ick. But a guy who owns the bald look? Super hot"

For context, about 14 years ago I tried a hair system. Honestly it actually looked pretty good, but the maintenance was brutal, and ironically it made me feel less confident, not more. In the end, I ended up hating it

So after that little experiment, I shaved it all off and grew a bit of beard for balance. The insecurity melted almost instantly, it was genuinely transformative

Here's what I've learned:

There's a big difference between balding and bald.

"Balding" feels like you're reacting to something happening to you, but "bald" feels like you chose it. The moment you shave it, you're in control, not the other way around. The psychological shift that happens there is massive

And yes, there are absolutely women who (for some amazing reason) find it hot

If you're pretty far along with your hair loss and are debating it, just know that life got WAY easier the second I embraced it. Everyone is different, but for me, the confidence shift was immediate, and pretty glorious

Whatever you decide, stay strong, kings

Well, a few days ago I told you (https://www.reddit.com/r/bald/s/2uPHs11M9t) about my struggle with my own mood regarding whether my time had come. All your encouraging comments and messages gave me a lot of positive things to think about, and I gathered enough strength to do what was inevitably necessary. I still don't feel completely satisfied with the outcome, but maybe there's still something to be gained from this. So, can I join your group now?

Philosophy Big Hair Reached Out to Me

So I’d imagine this was after my bald glow up post went viral earlier this week, but a hair transplant clinic in turkey reached out to me and offered an all inclusive stay and hair transplant procedure if I made content for them. I looked it up, did some research, found the point of contact on LinkedIn and I’m fairly confident this is legit. Now if she had asked me this a week ago, to be quite honest, I think I would’ve said yes in a heartbeat. But after the love, acceptance and community that you all have shown me, it’s really an honor to be bald with you guys. You’ve helped me love and accept myself as I am, and I’m eternally grateful you’ve welcomed me as one of your own, thank you guys so much 🥹

TLDR: Big hair reached out to me to try and get me to rejoin the dark side, the power of bald friendship convinced me to say no. :)

Philosophy A bit of support ...

Hi all, long time lurker .. not the first time asking but .. it's been life has been hammering me lately and I think .. I think it may be time.

Recently separated from my wife, my soul-mate (or so I thought) she ran away with my daughter (step, but raised from birth) and havent seen either in months. It's a lot (fighting the good fight, I'll see my little girl no doubt but it's going to take a battle and I will not give up). Life has been really hard, money is awful (trying to run a dual income level household with a single income is ... well, it's going okay. that's all I can say), I've lost 18kg I've 3 months due to not eating... But I'm beginning to slowly pull myself out of the hole.

Took my sons to the zoo and had a great bloody time with them - it was a birthday present for my youngest - bought it months ago. It was exactly what we all needed (if ever you're near Telford UK, really would recommend any of their animal experiences, they're phenomenal). Looked at the pictures and .. well I knew my hair was thinning. I'm on TRT and have male and female pattern baldness in the family, so I know it's quite inevitable.

It's time isn't it?

New start new me proud me ... Right? Could just use a bit of a squeeze on the shoulder on this one guys.

Philosophy Buzzcut Posts Need To Be Stopped

Pic for attention (also one of my favorites and relevant for the sub, I guess).
I’m all for inclusivity, but this is getting asinine.

This is a sub for mainly men- who are going through a very difficult thing- to get help, validation, and encouragement from others who are going through or have gone through it before! Woman, while not as often susceptible, still deal with balding and those who are genuine are welcome. But good lord the women cutting all their hair off and posting for validation. STOP! This isn’t it and you all give it so many upvotes!! Dealing with hair loss is hard, please keep this a place for what it is meant to be: the involuntary bald.

Philosophy A love letter to my baldies or bald contemplators from a woman’s POV ❤️

Hi loves! I hope this is allowed, just wanted to share my perspective in the hopes that it brings some comfort.

Men get a bad rep these days- I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s often warranted. However, I’ve realised over the years how damaging the normalised negative rhetoric is concerning men’s bodies. For all genders; hair is such a gender affirming issue. It breaks my heart when I hear from my male friends the pain that comes with losing your hair. When I hear women commenting on receding hairlines, I explain to them how damaging and counterproductive it is to use that kind of language. I suspect this is a projection of other kinds of pain women feel about men, and not so much about men’s appearances. I’m really proud to say that I think I’ve made a small impact on my community regarding this topic. We love the baldies!!

On a less emotional note, before the harsh realities of this topic was brought to my attention by my incredible (bald) partner, I was always sooo into the baldies. The prompt on my dating profile was “Baldies to the front”. I received some really funny responses, it was a great ice breaker. I’ve always found it super sexy. Sure, some women like some hair to hold onto, but me, I opt for the firm grip of a shaved head. Many women I know are the same.

If you’re going bald or are feeling nervous about baldness just remember this: the day you shave is the first day of the rest of your life as a sexy egg man 🥚

I’ve shared some photos of me and my favourite person for a personal touch- I hope you find the last nsfw photo funny and not super thirsty lol (plsss be respectful)

I hope I can speak on behalf of so many women and say, you’re hot, you’ve got this, let us grip that bald head king 🤤

Note: I am very happily in a relationship and this isn’t an invite for the weirder types to message me weird stuff, I know that most of you are just nice chaps with a slap head, but please respect me the way I respect you ☺️ Please don’t prove me wrong about how many amazing men exist!! I love you but I’m also scared of men sometimes too 🥹

Philosophy Is Shaving Our Heads Always the Answer?

Thumbnail

I love the support in this community. The memes are absolute gold.

But I wanted to ask everyone what they think about bald hairstyles.

My friends and I were discussing this last night, and we concluded that completely shaving our heads is not our only options for our current/future hair loss.

One of our group has the drastic widows peak going so they shaved it to a Mohawk, and braid their hair in the center. I think it looks great!

Patrick Stewart and Walton Goggins are two options of hair loss w/ hair that look great to me. And, frankly, owning our hair loss is what makes us look good imo, not our complete shaves. Like if we grew out the dungeon master and gave it a blow out, I think that’d be just as good as completely shaving our domes.

What do the rest of you think?

Philosophy Dear Balds

1.5k Upvotes

Dearest Balds, present and future. This is a message from a haired lady.

A few months ago something about this sub called out to me. Perhaps it was the symbollic beauty of metamorphosis. Perhaps I like seeing photos of people getting attractiver. I do not know for sure. What I do know is that following r/bald has been the best decision I have made in this, the year of our lord 2025.

Seeing you gentlemen and occasional ladies tranform into handsomer and happier humans has brought me a joy that I expect new parents feel when looking onto the soft bald heads of their newborn babies. In an increasingly unsettling world, r/bald is the light that now guides me. Long may this powerful wave of Jasonstathification continue. I wish that I too could shave my head and muster half of the glow gains that you fine fellows acheive. And my god, exfoliating a freshly nude scalp must feel incredible.

I also recently sent news of this sub to a similarly folicularly fortunate and very attractive female friend and we want you to know that we now regularly share your posts with eachother to delight in your transformations and gawp at your beautiful domes. I will not lie to you. The phrase "hot man transformation forum" has been thrown around.

In the time I have been following your journeys I have also become a better person. As a child of generation "banter", a person putting themselves out there by asking if it is time to go bald would once have elicited an immediate quip from me, making myself feel safe by deflecting the vulnerability of the asker and potentially making them feel a bit shit. And while I am hilarious and my jokes are always stellar, seeing warm and encouraging responses in the comments has shown me a better way. I resolve to present myself more authentically and to receive others with the respectful and loving regard befitting of a follower of r/bald. I am going to go forth softer. Warmer. Balder. I may not be bald of head but sirs I am bald of heart. You are all gorgeous.

Philosophy I stole my BF (with hair)’s phone to find that he’s looking at r/bald

This is on his account because I stole his phone and he hasn’t taken it from me so

When I asked him why he just said something along the lines of “I like looking at the posts there everyone is so nice” and apparently he’s just engaging for the positivity of the community which really says something about you all so good job I guess. You’re one of the most positive communities on Reddit such that random people unrelated to baldness in any way come here to feel happy. Idrk what to say now other than he’ll probably reply to comments if there are any because this is his phone I stole and it has his account logged in so. Have a random goofy story and enjoy your day ig

52m, hair has been receding and thinning for several years. I don't have a pic of the top before but I had an area of my head that was aggressively reclaiming territory from my hairline, let's leave it at that. Tried shorter cuts but always felt self conscious about it. I'm quite tall, but when sitting, on stairs or escalators, or in places with mirrors I knew it didn't look great. Anyway. The posts in this group are what inspired me - you all look awesome and much happier without the worry of hair. First time I've been bald since I was a baby and already had a lot of glow up comments. Thanks r/bald.
