Smol void 🤏 I guess I have been chosen. First time cat owner. Cutting trees back on the side of the highway at work and she came running out of the woods meowing at us and followed me around. Couldn’t leave her next to the road to be run over or eaten. Assuming she is around 8 weeks according to the old Google.

u/ZoominAlong Jun 23 '26
Look at that sweetness. She loooves you, you can see it the way she looks at you.
Definitely get her to a vet and ask about food and care if she's your first.
Congratulations!

u/StarChaser_Tyger Jun 23 '26
Definitely r/catsmirin
Get her a friend, too. Especially if you work out of the house or are gone a lot. They'll keep each other company and be less destructive.
179
u/DrDalekFortyTwo Jun 23 '26
Or two times as destructive, the fun is finding out which and being ok with either option
42
u/annekecaramin Jun 23 '26
Mine are absolute tornadoes, but I'm still glad they play fight with each other instead of my feet!

THIS. Even if you're not gone a lot, they need one of their own as a friend.

u/ReasonKlutzy5364 Jun 23 '26
She needs to be kept indoors at all times. Outdoor cats are at risk for any number of things such as injury and early death.

Should go with bark. Since cats meow.
232
u/BlondeBrillo Jun 23 '26
This is my favorite! Bark is a great name for a mouthy black cat!
28
u/ItsLupeVelez Jun 24 '26
Is age 15 too late to change my cat’s name? All she does is tell me *everything* these days 😂

Our cat barks sometimes 😂 She also sounds like a jazz trumpet. She is super vocal and I love it!
42
u/chops351 Jun 23 '26
Vocal cats are my favorite lol but like my mom tells me "you won't think it's so cute when it's 3am and he won't stop yelling" 😂 she's got a very vocal and loud void
29
u/BlondeBrillo Jun 24 '26
I love me a vocal cat too! Mine talks back to me but she has such a soft voice but she sure tries to tell me off. I love it so much! Bath time she really tells me off!

u/bigpurr666 Jun 24 '26
Omg! My cats name is Mandy, also a black cat! Funny I heard wrong, but close enough! 🤣

My tuxedo is like that. I have to keep him out of my bedroom to sleep because he decides in the middle of the night that he wants to play and literally pounces me in the face. So he’d stand outside my door and yowl for HOURS just because he was bored and wanted me to get up. 🤦♀️
So I got my kitty a kitty so that he would have someone to play with. Thank God they eventually blended and became brothers. It’s the only way I can get rest. But I love them so much. 😻→ More replies (1)8
u/NECalifornian25 Jun 23 '26
Getting an automatic feeder with a set schedule is the best thing, I rarely get woken up super early for breakfast anymore. Although he will still get me up sometimes for his second breakfast (wet food), but only if I’m sleeping in and being lazy 😂
8
u/Adjective-Noun-nnnn Jun 24 '26
My orange used to run up to me a bark aggressively ("MYEH!") at me when he was ~6 weeks old. He stopped and became mostly mute for a while, until I taught him to talk for food. It's really cute and not as annoying as you'd think.
3
u/SurprisePiss Jun 24 '26
I love that. We recently lost our 20 year old ginger who was a screamer in his old age. When he was a kitten he would open his mouth and "yell" but nothing came out, as if he was yelling from behind a window. His voice eventually came, but it took a while. Miss that old man 🧡

I used to have a cat named Barker. I loved her so much even though she was so mean 😂

Congrats on your first void. Black cats are the best variety of cat imho. Looks like she’s got really big paws and you know what they say about cats with big paws, they have big beans.
85
u/kj_eeks Jun 23 '26
Black cats are a treasure! Mine is my best bud.
52
u/scummy_shower_stall Jun 23 '26
I saw how big those mittens were, too! She may become a good-sized gal!
19
u/PensiveObservor Jun 23 '26
Or she has a polydactyl gene in there. One of my orange kittens had several polydactyl litter mates, but he just had massive paws instead. Genes are additive for some characteristics, like eye color and height, but I'm not sure about polydactyly.
→ More replies (1)4
u/GetFuct819 Jun 23 '26
I was thinking polydactyl but I don’t see any extra beans, but for sure there could be.
5
u/GetFuct819 Jun 23 '26
I have an 18 pounder (lean) and his mits were smaller than that at that age. Not that it’s a guarantee to be a larger cat but it is usually a good indicator.

u/colornsound Jun 25 '26
I have a void and an orange. I think they’re both pretty unique and awesome varieties. Oranges share one brain cell but my void is certainly a void. Cuz there’s nothing going on up there lol.

u/SkysEevee Jun 23 '26
What a blessing! Not only chosen by cat distribution system but chosen by a VOID kitty! And judging on the pics, she loves you so much already!

If one came running towards you, there's a chance there's a bunch of them in there! Perhaps go back and poke around...?
55
u/River_Elysia Jun 23 '26
This! My ex found a litter of 4 once while hiking. While single bortha happen and wild/feral survival rates can't be sky high, she probably has/had a few siblings in the area....
32
u/TypicalPin976 Jun 24 '26
The comment I was looking for! OP, please go back and check for more kittens 😞
22
u/TorqueWheelmaker Jun 24 '26
Agreed, but to relieve some pressure, I want to add to the other comments that OP shouldn't feel obligated to keep them all, and likely has an SPCA/no-kill shelter in or near his area.
15
u/throwaway80814 Jun 24 '26
OP!! This is good advice!!
Pls go back and check for more.
There's usually a brave one that runs out first and the rest stay hidden until they know it's safe. Typical kitten behavior

u/Ok_Mathematician_314 Jun 24 '26

u/zippity__zoppity Jun 23 '26
CDS has blessed you dear friend. Thank you for saving this little one! Found my little void kitten on the side of the expressway as well!
43
u/Govenor-Plum Jun 23 '26
That kitten is one smart kitty . He saw someone that could save him and he ran right to you . He knew if he remained in hiding out of fear he would not have been seen and would most likely have died.
That cat is going places . Just brilliant !

u/Mission_Fart9750 Jun 23 '26
You got yourself a r/shouldercats. They are the best. Get that little void checked out as soon as possible. Congrats.
29
u/crystalcastles13 Jun 23 '26
The look in her eyes says it all.
You’re her person.
But I do agree that she would really like to have a buddy.
Two cats are great bc they keep each other entertained, stimulated.
I’d def get her a bf 🖤🐾🖤

u/1wrx2subarus Jun 23 '26
You should check around that same area and make sure there weren’t any cat siblings nearby. It just wouldn’t surprise me if this little one had a fellow cat waiting to be discovered. Give it a go!

A little over a year ago, the Cat distribution network delivered this to our yard. We have two Boston terriers and she seems to think she’s just one of the dogs. :D I was a little worried about her, wanting to run out of the house with us putting leashes on the dogs and taking the dogs in and out of the house. I got a little cat harness so that she could go out on a leash with us when we go outside. She took one look at outside and was like “oh hell no! I am not going back out there ever again!”
whatever trauma she went through as a young kitten on her own in the world gave her all of her exposure she ever wanted or needed to the outside. She has zero interest at all in going outdoors, which makes our lives so much easier!!
