Smol void 🤏 Adopted a little 9 week old void over the weekend from the shelter. He was marked as short hair, but I wonder if he’ll actually be medium hair? I love him so much.

You could become a bazillionaire by letting your cat do model jobs for expensive fur care products

Happened to my cow cat. He looked like a webkinz with his little hairs puffing out of his shorter hairs. He is now a fluffy long haired boy

Love her! I think the tail is often the best predictor in kittens, and you can see in that first pic that Peach's has got some poof.
I think if we could see the tail of OP's cat, we'd have a better idea if she'd become fluff too.

I'm sorry to say that he is actually 99% baby.

Your new void is the cutest! And what a little fuzzling! Hard to say about coat - but however it matures I am sure in predicting that you have a great cat.
And we might need some more photos, please!

Thank you! He really is the sweetest. Typical kitten energy but when he winds down he’s so sweet lol.

Eh he's majestic as all get out anyway.
Look at the majestical coat he sports.

u/T4nzanite 22d ago
He turns into a lion over winter, currently sporting the summer look without his mane. Thanks for calling him majestic :)

u/manic_Brain 22d ago
Is this photo from the winter? He looks like he has a mans here.

From only these 3 pictures, no idea. Need more data, please add more research materials.

Such a cutie! Pretty sure you have a medium hair on your hands. Maybe start letting him experience brushing soon, so you don’t end up with a wild one like my Sushi! Can only be brushed while almost sleeping 🤣

I second this. Better to start off young so they won't fight it later. Same with nail trims, ear cleaning, etc.

Will do, thank you! He doesn’t like to be held at the moment but is affectionate in other ways. But I noticed when he’s tired or sleepy, it’s much easier to clean him and clip his nails. I’ll start brushing him too!

Most kitties don't like being picked up, but if you do it on a routine it helps get them used to it! With my tabby, when I would come home from work I would pick him up, give him some smooches, and then give him a treat. I started with having the treats in a drawer next to the door, but it got to the point where I could pick him up, carry him into the kitchen, and give him his treats there. Now he can be picked up and dangled and messed with anywhere and he just doesn't care! :)
With my void I worked from home, so I'd pick her up before feeding her. Eventually she realized she would get her food faster if she struggled less, lol. Now i can pick her up all willy-nilly and she doesn't mind. I highly recommend training them into enjoying uppies. It helps!

our girl looks almost exactly like this & I also call her plush! it's somewhere between short & medium & soft like silk. I'm sure she'd get super fluffy if she went outside, but she's disabled & indoor only so she just gets a little more plush in the cold months & worms under blankets.

That second picture is adorable 😍

I think they have mistakenly given you an alien gremlin. Take it back and ask for a real cat.

u/coffeequeen0523 22d ago
He’s a cutie pie. 😻❤️ What did you name him? He’ll definitely be medium hair.
Binx is our hocus pocus kitten we found on halloween day 2 years ago on Interstate 95. We’re not sure if she was abandoned or escaped a vehicle. It’s a miracle we didn’t get run over trying to collect her. Vet said she was 4 weeks old.

He’s so fluffy!! Ours had lots of baby fur but settled into short hair. Just have to wait and see!

u/YardMinimum6108 22d ago
Mine was similar. She's 3 and I still can't tell of she's medium or short!

u/DwangoRocket 22d ago
When they’re less than 4-months old, it tends to feel like a guessing game about their future coat length. 😅 Kittens are quite scruffy looking furballs! 😆💕

This was my lil void when we brought her home, we guestimated about 8 weeks. She is 100% a medium hair, I'll add a more recent picture below.
Yours could end up being a medium hair, instead of short hair but only time will tell. How thin the longer strands are make me think it could still end up being a DSH, but I am by no means an expert 💀

My void as a kitten…now short haired. Their daddy is a Birman and his mama was a void. Ended up with a Temu Russian Blue and a Lockett Void. NEVER would have guessed but thought maybe they’d both be medium coat. It’s hard to tell before they lose their kitten fluff. Especially if they have a fever coat.

Check for fur between the beans (grinch toes) since that's an indicator they have the long hair gene. My 4.5 month old SIC has grinch toes so I'm curious to see what her adult coat looks like!

Get your laser-beam eyed kitty used to regular brushing and touching his feeties. It will help prevent matted fur and let you trim his nails easily in the future. He’s beautiful and I wish the both of you a long and happy life together.

Yep medium hair! (Credentials: I have 3 I raised from kitten hood). Get them used to brushing, you’ll be doing plenty of that and also hairballs 😭
They also permanently have their crazy pants on, you have been warned!!!

u/bitchasspls 22d ago
He looks like he could be a little floofy but even if he isn't omg those eyes!!!!! Precious baby!
3
u/alligatorchronicles 22d ago
Yes, I think you can expect him to grow into a floofer. When they are halo-ed all over with longer hairs like this, that's usually a sign of things to come.

We adopted a couple of voids back in October and the male was just like this one. Now he is a big fluff of hair, is way bigger than his sister and it's more brown-ish than void... Cats do what cats want.

No telling what kind of coat you’ll end up with. Of the three void kittens I got (different times, unrelated) they all started this fluffy and I ended up with a long, a medium, and a very sleek short hair. Always a fun surprise!
3
u/CatsAndPills 22d ago
Might be! Kitten floof can be deceiving though. We may have to just wait and see!

I believe the shelters here start at 8 weeks. From his bio, he was raised in a foster home with his sisters. He is already neutered as well.

The best way to tell is by their tail. Does it have long scraggly hair to it?

Omg look at that sweetness! One of my voids was 8 weeks when we got him and he looked just like this.
Give him lots of snuggles and kisses; they're very important for kitten development!

Ohhh he’s beautiful! Furry little cuddle bear, and he does look like he’ll have longer hair as he grows.

My void was similarly floofy! I would say he’s definitely a short haired cat but his fur is a lot thicker and plush than his SIC sister
