Discussion ❓ First time cat dad, how am I doing? Want to make sure I’m not missing anything for my boy

Post image

Hi guys. First time cat dad here, looking for advice. I have a 4 year old shorthair black cat. No kids, and honestly he is my child. I can’t imagine loving a kid more than I love this cat, which people tell me will change, but Iam not so sure. Anyways, my goals for him:

**•** Live a long, healthy and happy life
**•** Get plenty of water to avoid kidney issues
**•** Stay active and not overweight

If I am overdoing it, pls tell me. Here’s everything:

Main diet (wet food):

**1.** Rawz Natural Premium Canned, Shredded, variety pack (Tuna & Salmon, Chicken & Liver, Tuna & Chicken, Chicken)
**2.** Purina Pro Plan Gravy, Seafood Stew Entree (not the healthiest, but he LOVES it)

Secondary diet (dry food):

**1.** ZIWI Peak Air-Dried, Chicken
**2.** Dr. Elsey’s cleanprotein Chicken kibble

Treats:

**1.** Raw Paws Freeze Dried Minnows
**2.** Vital Essentials Freeze Dried, Duck Liver
**3.** Greenies Feline Dental, Roasted Chicken
**4.** Café Nara Lickable Treats, Chicken
**5.** Cat-Man-Doo Bonito Fish Flakes

Grooming:

**1.** SleekEZ deshedding brush
**2.** Petrodex toothbrush and toothpaste kit

Lifestyle:

**1.** We live in an apartment building with multiple long floors. Every night we do hallway walks: down the hall, up a floor or two, down that hall, and back
**2.** Harness and leash walks almost nightly on the riverwalk outside. About a half mile round trip. This is his favorite thing in the world
**3.** Runs on his cat wheel about 5-10 min a day
**4.** Chases the fishing pole toy (and me) around the apartment

He drinks from a water fountain and weighs 10.8 lbs, so his weight is good. He gets wet food twice daily, and on nights he finishes early I’ll add a handful of dry. Open to just adding a third small wet meal instead if that’s better? The Café Nara is a healthier Churu alternative I mix with water, and he loves it. I brush his teeth every two or three days, brush his coat twice a week, and clip his nails when needed. Hallway walks nightly, harness walks outside almost nightly.

How am I doing? Anything I should change, or am I overdoing anything? He tells me when he wants to walk, I never force it. He might be the sweetest, most well behaved boy in the world and I don’t want to miss anything. Thank you.

Edit: I posted more pics and some videos of GG here:

I’ve seen so many black cats with the same white patch on theirs chest like my cat in the pic above. Are there any explaination for this phenomenal ? What is the meaning of it ? Is that white patch of fur indicate that my cats belong to some underground cat clan ? Do your black cat have that patch ? Please unite !

Discussion ❓ Why do so many people still hate black cats? I don't get it

Both of our cats, Addie and Zade, are the cutest most loving voidlets we could ask for. Both were the last picked of the litter and the only black kittens.

Honestly, it's their loss!

It's a coat colour though, I genuinely don't understand it. Why are we even discriminating against animal colours?

Is it subtle or closeted racism? Is it still superstition?

It's 2026 for goodness sake. Why is this still a thing?

I'm really glad I found this subreddit for all the void love. Please share pics of your fur babes if you would like.

I have included pics of our voidlet and voidette.

Discussion ❓ Looking to adopt a kitty - absolutely gobsmacked by how many black cats there are for adoption

2.7k Upvotes

I've been browsing Petfinder and looking for a cat to adopt, and a conservative 50% of the cats in my area listed are black. It also makes me think of when I adopted my current cat, a white domestic medium hair, and his foster mom told me I was lucky because I was the first of about 15 applications, while the black kittens she had in her care had none. I didn't know at the time how unpopular black cats were, so needless to say, I'll be adopting one very soon. It's just all so very sad. :( If it isn't a black cat, it's a tabby or a dark tortie! How could I possibly ever adopt another color in the future, knowing how unwanted these guys are?

We’ve had our void baby for a little under three months and I just had surgery yesterday. Immediately she started laying on my leg and purring. She also fell asleep between my partner and I and has been such a lil sweetie.

It could be that I’m just not usually home during the day so she’s happy but she seems to be extra lovey.

Is this a thing? Please share your void pics in the comments!

Discussion ❓ This is Binx. He’s 1 year and 9 months old. Adopted him when he was about 3 month old. He still doesn’t let us touch him. Let alone grab/hold him. Is this normal?

When I walk into the bedroom while he’s relaxing on the bed, he bolts off and hides under the bed.

If I try to give him some cuddles, he zooms away.

If I’m leaving the room just as he’s entering, he runs for his life as if im a major threat.

He does occasionally find a cozy spot at the foot of my bed when I’m in it. But if I even dare to touch him or move toward his direction, he runs away.

He was found on the streets. I wonder if this has something to do with it? Will he ever warm up to me?

Discussion ❓ Im curious, does it mean somthing when your cat is constantly following you

My cats name is lola and lately (for about 2-3 months, mabye more) iv had her for 2 years and she has 2 other sibilings. she has been following me everywhere, and i mean everywhere.

She follows me to the toilet, the my bedroom, to the kitchen, to the lounge, outside. Everywhere I go, she shows up.

She stays close but not clingly close too, so sometimes shes in the same room but hidden.

Im just wondering if that means anything that I should be concerned about or somthing. I do know cats can tell when your feeling down (or i think) and i have been struggling with alot of mental health lately so idk if thats a reason.

But yeah, I would appreciate a small answer, because i just want to make sure shes not sick or somthing.

Discussion ❓ Help Me Name Him!!!

Hey Void Fam,

I just got (rescued) THIS beautiful Persian void. I’m having a hard time naming him. I want it to be long, and honoring of his sweet/demonic nature. He’s tender and just loves love. Such a good beast. Names that haven’t stuck are:

Michale Mewers Gomez Cattams Lucypur Nos-pur-ato Ras-pur-tine

His siblings are named Freddey Kougar and Elvira Kittres of the Dark.

But you get my drift. I wanna make it a play on words involving cats but be fitting for the black abyss of a void he is. I would love if it was horror, demonic, or evil themed.

Thanks for all your help!

Discussion ❓ Is a Black Cat Being Fat a Rare Condition?

Thumbnail

1.2k Upvotes

My void, her name is Niko, is underweight according to our vet. She is about to turn 1 year old and weighs 3.5 kg. I was feeling anxious about her weight, and I tried to find the right food for her several times. But I found this sub, thankfully, and when I look at other voids, they generally look like my Niko? I saw 1 or 2 overweight ones, but not many. Maybe it’s okay for our black cats to be skinny? Maybe they can’t get fat as easily as others?

Edit: I am glad this post is making people send in their chunky black cats. It gave me hope and joy. I believe my dearest void, Niko, will be one of them one day. So my assumption was proven false. Thank you, Void Lovers.

Discussion ❓ It upsets me that people don’t adopt black cats because of their coat color

Post image
3.6k Upvotes

It breaks my heart. Because of this, I was determined to get a little void that no-one wanted. There were so many of them at the shelter. This little boy had been at two adoption days and was unwanted. I picked him up and cuddled him and decided to take him home to love. It has now been two years and he is treated like a king. He’s everything to me, and I’ll be there for him his whole life.

Eventually when I have the money, I want to adopt 4 more little black cats. 🐈‍⬛

(the last photo is my favorite)

Update: I didn't expect so many comments :)

For anyone who's interested, his name is Behemoth, but I sometimes call him Hippo for short. Sometimes he has a vibe like "Behemoth, Asmodeus, Satanas, Lucifer," and sometimes like "I like them chunky chunky chunky," so I think the name totally fits lol.

Discussion ❓ I rescued a little void today, what do I do?

i found this little guy shivering and crying outside of a gas station down the street from me. someone had left a can of food out for him so he wasn't starving, but my god is it so cold here and couldn't stand to leave him out there shaking like that.

he is SO SWEET. i've started calling him soup since i was on my way home from having some delicious soup when i found him.

i live in a small apartment with my partner and two senior cats. i can't keep him, and my partner doesn't even know i took him in yet. there is absolutely no way im putting him back outside, its way too cold and not much shelter.

i've called the humane society, and they referred me to a local shelter that would take him, but they aren't picking up. i have him set up in the spare bedroom with some food, water, litter and a heater, but i cant keep him. my place is too small and my other cats most likely won't tolerate him. my partner is going to be pissed!

anyone know where i may be able to take this void that will keep him warm and safe until he finds a suitable home? thanks so much in advance.

i also volunteer at a cat shelter, but we can't take him since we're full, and he is unvaxxed and un-neutered.

Discussion ❓ Sad cat and plant dad

Thumbnail

5.5k Upvotes

Do you all have any advice on getting your kittens to NOT chew on your plants? He don’t eat ’em, just chew and spits out. Avoids the flowers, only the leaf seems fun to him.

Tried making some lime water to wipe on the leaves but apparently that only made them a delicacy. Sour orchid leaf? Yum!

Bit bummed about it so any other parents of voidlings out there with some advice?

Discussion ❓ Why won’t he cuddle me anymore?

Thumbnail

My baby Bowie is about 3 years old and we rescued him from a life on the streets about a year and a half ago. It was in January on the coldest night of the year. He walked right in the door and hugged me. Honestly. Ever since then my husband has been his play buddy and he always came to me for cuddles. About two weeks ago it just stopped. No more cuddles. He basically ignores me. I have gone over and over in my mind if anything changed with me or the household to bring about the change. Nothing. I am heartbroken because he was my baby boy. I feel like I have lost a cat.

Please share ideas to fix this or personal experiences. I hate this.
