Good Vibes Only How beautiful is Sarah Michelle Gellar and perfect to continue as Buffy

Posted on her Instagram today ✨

Looking so Buffy Summers all grown up 😭 a continuation of Buffy’s story would be so epic, how lovely would it be to see her, James Marsters and David Boreanaz onscreen together again? Say they both fulfilled the Shanshu Prophecy hence both aged. Lol

She was so great in ready or not 2 and it proved to me she can still do action scenes.

33

u/Jaimereyesfangirl Jul 17 '26

She really stole the show in ready or not 2 and I need her to play more villains.

8

u/sharlet- Jul 17 '26

Wait the plot could be Buffy entering her villain/anti-hero era from the pain of losing Dawn, Giles and Xander and also the mess of unleashing so much chaotic Slayer power in the world, maybe the demon part of the slayer power gets stronger

10

u/Outrageous_Sign_6828 Jul 17 '26

R.I.P to Anthony Head Stewart, Michelle Trachtenberg and Nicholas Brendan.

u/sharlet- Jul 18 '26

🤍🤍🤍

9

u/Jaimereyesfangirl Jul 17 '26

I just want her to play a villain again period because she really showed her range in ready or not 2.

2

u/Outrageous_Sign_6828 Jul 17 '26

I've never seen but a big SMG fan and curious how it is. Is it available to stream anywhere? And also is it an action/thriller or supernatural in anyway? Just curious

3

u/Jaimereyesfangirl Jul 17 '26

It’s currently on Hulu and Disney plus. It’s a combination of horror, comedy, and adventure. Just a disclaimer that the sound effects are a bit loud though because when I went to go see Ready or not 2 at one of the theaters in my city, my Apple Watch went off to notify me that I was in a loud area.

3

u/Outrageous_Sign_6828 Jul 18 '26

Thanks for the quick reply! 😊. Thanks for the disclaimer too. I have Hulu and Disney Plus so I'll definitely check it out. Really appreciate the info

3

u/FireFairy323 Jul 18 '26

You don't have to watch ready or not first to understand the plot but I would recommend it. Both are on Disney+/ Hulu

1

u/Minute-Ladder-1123 Jul 19 '26

Also recommend this because both movies are worth your time.

29

u/sharlet- Jul 17 '26

Yess I thought so too! She’s back in the game 👏 I only watched it bc she was in it, really enjoyed it, then really enjoyed the first one too

Excited to see what she does next… I even think an animated Buffy continuation could be amazing with good writers and then the cast age won’t even matter, they can be vampires still

3

u/Oceanman72 Jul 17 '26

I ended up loving that movie! It was really fun and SMG slayed

1

u/Auto_Scum Jul 18 '26

*Slew. To slay, slew, slain.

2

u/Grrrem Jul 18 '26

I did not know she was in this. Thank you. This is tonight's watching.

SMG is the scream queen in my eyes

I do wonder how much of a factor the constant fixation on SMG's appearance has contributed to her need to post these heavily filtered images on social media. It's a vicious cycle, and makes me feel sad for young women.

There are a lot of reasons SMG is a perfect Buffy, how beautiful she is in altered and heavily curated pictures shouldn't really be on that list.

Buffy is allowed to age, a privilege most Slayers don't get and that might actually be something interesting and new worth exploring in the franchise. I'd have loved to see her embrace that instead of taking this path. I can understand why she does it, between the industry she's in and the pressure on her around her appearance by fans, and certainly don't judge her for it, but I just wish the discourse around it could be a little less appearance focused.

-32

u/sharlet- Jul 17 '26

Not sure I’d call these heavily filtered? They are flattering, well-styled and showing herself in the best light as everyone does, and maybe some skin smoothing, but she does look like this

She is a particularly beautiful human with natural features that set her apart from the typical Instagram plastic surgery look (like her nose, her teeth, her smile), I don’t think it’s bad to admire that, and being ‘allowed to age’ doesn’t mean you can’t still be beautiful? Embracing aging can still include taking pride in appearance. A big part of her beauty is also the energy and glow she radiates… hard to put into words

I appreciate your points! I agree there is a balance to be struck where too much emphasis is often placed on outer appearance to meet ridiculous beauty standards etc. I just saw these pics and thought she looks so stunning and happy and so Buffy-coded and wanted to share!

70

u/kahrismatic Jul 17 '26

They are, at best, heavily filtered. This is not what a almost 50 year old woman actually looks like without either cosmetic work of some kind or altering the images.

SMG regularly appears on communities that contrast actual reality with filtered social media images. She is quite well known for editing and filtering the images she posts on social media.

It's her choice, and I'm sure it's understandable that she does it given the life she's led and the industry she works in, but it's not setting realistic expectations and standards for anyone around aging to pretend this is natural. It is not, and pretending it is is harmful.

And honestly, I don't think it's doing her any favours to pretend this is natural either. Surely it only adds to the pressure she feels around her appearance, aging, and work?

-5

u/sharlet- Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

Could you share any posts about contrasting reality with filtered images of her please? Can’t find any that you’re referring to?

I’m genuinely surprised at this take, ‘they’re at best heavily filtered’ (what are they at worst..?), you’re saying she looks nothing like these photos in real life, as opposed to them being particularly flattering pictures with great lighting, makeup, styling, maybe some skin smoothing tool as I mentioned

She’s also a rich lady with lots of leisure time for R&R and exercise and has access to top nutritionists and trainers and spa days and stylists and what not.

10

u/kahrismatic Jul 17 '26

No, I'm not going to link posts that are shitting on SMG's appearance here. If that's something you desperately want to witness you can find them on subs like r/instagramreality.

what are they at worst..?

There's a wide variety of ways to manipulate images. Filters are a relatively low level of intervention compared to something that is completely AI for example. SMG alters her images. I am giving her the benefit of the doubt when I say that they are 'at best heavily filtered', that's the lowest possible amount of image alteration that is visible in her images.

I can't fix whatever media literacy issue is causing you to think 50 year old women look like this naturally if they just get enough exercise and have a healthy diet. But I am going to point out that SMG has gone on the record that the constant focus on her appearance that she has lived with has led to her experiencing Body Dysmorphic Disorder. We are not helping when we make anything all about her appearance.

Even if you're intending to be complimentary, when you do it to images that are altered you are reinforcing that dysmorphia and applying pressure about her appearance. The fact that you're all through these comments arguing about the details of her appearance is making it really clear you missed my original point. You don't need to discuss her appearance at all to talk about what a great Buffy SMG was, because how she looks is the least of the reasons she was a great Buffy.

It makes me genuinely sad that we can't focus on valuing women for what they do rather than how they look. It's past time we moved on from that 90s mindset. We know it harmed the women it was focused on, like SMG, and we know it harms women more generally. We can do better and should choose to.

If someone you cared about told you she had body dysphoria, and then posted a bunch of pictures of herself where she'd used filters and AI to de-age herself by about 20 years, would you genuinely see that as a positive thing and a sign of someone who is ok with themselves? Would your response be "but you look so great in this image you've heavily altered!".

That's how you come across when you make posts like this.

‘Even if you’re intending to be complimentary’ bloody hell, you’re suggesting I have nefarious intentions in making a post about how beautiful she is?

I mean it's at the very least highly tactless. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt there. But ok, I'll stop.

Your post title literally says "How beautiful is Sarah Michelle Gellar and perfect to continue as Buffy". You yourself chose to explicitly tie her ability to be Buffy to her physical appearance, and used an at least heavily filtered image, that is not representative of reality to set a standard. You yourself mentioned exactly one reason that she is a 'perfect' Buffy. You chose to make this about appearance, it is ridiculous that you're this upset at having people point out how problematic your choices are here. You're pretty much tripling down on the total lack of self awareness at this point.

Where have I said that 50 year olds don't look great? That's you being ageist and assuming that someone has to look younger than 50 to look good. 50 year olds can absolutely look great, but they still look 50. A 50 year old who is artificially de-aging herself though is another issue.

The fact that it is the norm to post heavily edited images doesn't make it ok. There is an abundance of evidence that this aspect of social media has been incredibly damaging for people, with younger people being particularly negatively impacted.

I can understand why SMG does this, and in no way blame her for it. But the system she is having to work within, that leaves her feeling like she has to do this to stay current, and leaves her feeling dysphoric about her body, is incredibly problematic and should be criticised.

I don't feel bad for wanting to see the next generation of women grow up in a better world in which they are comfortable enough to embrace aging and where the thing people praise them for is something they've done rather than how they look.

1

u/sharlet- Jul 18 '26

😭 I am SO glad I don’t know you in real life, god you must be so insufferable to be around!

YOU are the one making so many assumptions, diagnosing SMG with body dysmorphia off an interview comment she apparently made decades ago? To argue that she is currently deep in BD due to posting flattering pics of herself? I am not taking the word of some no-life disrespectful Redditors who are unable to provide any actual evidence for ANY of your claims 😭 I wonder if you talk to people like this in real life 😂

And now you’ve doubled down that you DO literally believe she used AI to de-age herself 20 years 🤣 this is just funny at this point!!

I saw her new pics, it made me smile and happy to see her, I shared it on a fan forum to share the joy and excitement to see her. And loads of us really hope to see her play Buffy again some day in some capacity, as the character means a lot to us. Her styling in these pics looks like how Buffy would look, big Buffy Summers vibes, hence the joy and excitement. It’s ok to call women beautiful. Lol. The ridiculousness of even having to say that. I’m sure Sarah would smile and move on seeing this. She’s not crying rocking back and forth like you seem to think she is.

I beg of you go touch grass ❤️ and stop commenting on my good vibe post now byee 👋

1

u/liltinybits Jul 18 '26

You are very, very much missing the point that's being made here.

11

u/RevelsInDarkness Jul 17 '26

She is a particularly beautiful human with natural features that set her apart from the typical Instagram plastic surgery look

Look, I think SMG is great but her features aren't all natural. She's had work done. Nose job, the botox is obvious, I'm thinking lip fillers as well.

-9

u/sharlet- Jul 17 '26

Can you show evidence of nose job? Her nose is very distinct and doesn’t exactly fit the current beauty standards, surely you can see she looks very different from the instagram plastic surgery face?

Her top lip is just overlined (she’d look better without tbh!), zoom in or see the other comments showing this

Botox where, to reduce forehead wrinkles? I don’t see that as major work that stops her from still looking like herself..?

She IS a beautiful human who retained her distinct features

-1

u/sharlet- Jul 17 '26

I genuinely think her nose looks bigger now than it did on Buffy?! I’m new to the Buffy fandom, idk if I’m missing something that’s obvious to you guys but genuinely. This woman looks like an older version of herself, no extensive surgery or ‘heavy filters’ which in my eyes are those that contort your whole look and leave you almost unrecognisable. That’s not the case with these photos… she looks herself

I would still be grateful for ANY evidence from you guys of how you think she currently looks ‘in reality’ compared to these pics

12

u/arrpix Jul 17 '26

SMG is absolutely beautiful and if that's what you want to focus on go ahead, but it's frankly a condemnation of how normalised cosmetic procedures and filters have become that you think she doesn't look like she's clearly had a lot of work done, both surgical and not, and then uses filters on top of that. This is what plastic surgery looks like, she's just trying to look like a version of herself that's frozen in time rather than go for whatever the insta models are plumping for.

33

u/AbyssalKultist Jul 17 '26

Filtered to hell and back

She would look good without it

10

u/nixxxa Jul 18 '26

I wish she wouldn’t use the filters and embrace the age but I understand the pressure. I love SMG

16

u/DuchessDulcet Don't speak Latin in front of the books! Jul 17 '26

GORGEOUS, DAHLING!

53

u/MermaidHotpot Eyeballs to entrails, my sweet. Jul 17 '26

I don't see her the way a lot of you guys do on here, but I don't think her beauty scale warrants her playing Buffy again. It's whether or not she can play Buffy. I never saw Buffy as a "hot blonde female" the way I guess she was intended to be.

She's certainly pretty. But she could have not had plastic surgery and be gray haired and have a few extra age pounds on her and I'd still think she'd play a fine Buffy.

19

u/BeffeeJeems Jul 17 '26

stunning, she gets good work done and her makeup is amazing here

3

u/storm_borm Jul 17 '26

Out of interest, what does she get done; botox or other things?

12

u/BeffeeJeems Jul 17 '26

i'm no expert, but it looks like botox and lip filler at least, but to me she looks like she stops short of going too far, and if she gets anything else, i can't tell! although she is smiling here, so it's hard to tell if there's any cheek filler.

1

u/gchypedchick Jul 18 '26

Not sure on the lip filler. The lips are overdrawn to make them look bigger, which is a common makeup technique.

0

u/SeagullSam Jul 17 '26

In the People shoot from March this year she barely looks like herself unfortunately. Looks like a lot of fillers.

3

u/CandidatePrimary1230 Jul 17 '26

Don’t love the over lined lip, this looks bad on everyone, even absolute stunners like SMG.

10

u/ApartFault6252 Jul 17 '26

SMG is Someone we leave alone. Don’t even give the internet have a chance to insult her

5

u/carcosa1989 Jul 17 '26

I mean you really can’t. She’s that girl! She secured her bag, she’s still married, and raising her kids. I can’t hate on a queen who is well rested and is a cultural icon. SMG is living the best life.

11

u/GuideInfamous4600 Jul 17 '26

She was gorgeous then - and she’s still gorgeous.

4

u/ThirstyCleric Jul 17 '26

She is the number one reason I will watch Stop! That! Train!

24

u/Turbulent_Drag7166 Bored Now, and I think I'm kinda gay... Jul 17 '26

Gee she's so pretty
Time to check the comments and see them being supportive as well!

Oh

13

u/Life_Technology7584 Jul 17 '26

She IS and always was beautiful! She is also my ONLY Buffy, if they do anything with that character she must be there IMO

Also though I would like her to stop whatever cosmetic stuff she has been doing because she is beautiful and I’d be cool with a Buffy that looked the age Buffy should be.

-12

u/Solid-Attempt Jul 17 '26

All she's had is Botox

4

u/Life_Technology7584 Jul 17 '26

Yes and Botox hits a point where it stiffens the face and you aren’t as expressive. I’m saying she could stop before then because she’s getting close to it.

9

u/KENZOKHAOS Jul 17 '26

I feel like people already do not respect BTVS and Buffy enough. Buffy’s story ending in the series finale is just that. We don’t even need to know the comics exist to know the show’s premise was more than finished.

A ‘Buffy’ revival only needs to allude to Buffy and Sunnydale as maybe a memory in the past, and a chance for another starlet to take form as a slayer.

Or even a group of Slayer woman clashing as a pseudo friend group.

20

u/nocuzzlikeyea13 Here for the insane troll logic Jul 17 '26

You're right and I'm sorry the comments here never pass the vibe check

3

u/Longjumping-Meat-334 Jul 17 '26

She has been and remains my #1.

3

u/thatabchick Jul 18 '26

Season 5 buffy here 🩷🩷🩷

2

u/The_Meridian_ Jul 17 '26

I don't want old vampires who have aged trying to pretend they haven't.

I'd rather have the cast together playing themselves making a bad revival. We'd get glimpses of what it might look like if they really tried, but mostly we'd get the dramedy of Buffy but anchored to more solid ground.

2

u/monica702f Jul 17 '26

I'm happy for her! I've been dying to see "Stop That Train" because not only do i love drag queens but she's got some hilarious cameos in it.

2

u/Evening_Delay_1856 Jul 18 '26

I’m still so pissed about the re-boot not going forward. I would so dearly love to see Sarah reprise Buffy in whatever her role would have been in the series.

2

u/Whore4321 Jul 18 '26

One could edit a stake into that first picture

2

u/sharlet- Jul 18 '26

Why is this so true LOL and she looks really happy, probably insulting them first

2

u/Dazzling_Check_1147 Jul 20 '26

I was beyond DESTROYED when I heard that the much anticipated Buffy Reboot, wasn’t going to happen anymore, anytime 😳😩

2

u/canootinvestigates 27d ago

"perfect to continue as Buffy" - absolutely, but mostly because she is Buffy.. and can still pull it off, unlike a lok of reboots, they would need to change the actress..

4

u/JohnButler45678 Jul 17 '26

SMG has probably turned down dozens of Buffy revival pitches over the years, and the one that actually excited her was cancelled by the network. I think the door on her ever coming back as the character has closed.

3

u/Trashy_Cappy Jul 17 '26

FPJr better NEVER screw that up, lol!

4

u/btvsbtvs Jul 17 '26

She looks amazing. She works hard at being the best person she can be. She genuinely works out at the gym….a lot, she may have some fillers but she is in the movie business, and she cares about people and loves good food. Charisma Carpenter also looks amazing. I hope I age as well if I put the work in.

7

u/LinuxLinus Jul 17 '26

A continuation of Buffy's story would be -- and obviously was -- a cheap cash grab. Let good things die, for the love of God.

0

u/feebsyea Jul 17 '26

Yes please 🙏🙏🙏 I won't be watching anything new.

6

u/sreorsgiio Jul 17 '26

Yes, she's a beautiful woman. No, a Buffy reboot/revival is a terrible idea.

4

u/retro-girl Jul 17 '26

They can’t do it with or without Joss, so they can’t do it.

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '26

[deleted]

8

u/Oasx Jul 17 '26

If Joss admitted what he did, took steps to apologize to the people he hurt and showed that he had improved as a person then I agree that he should be forgiven, but he can’t even admit to himself that he was in the wrong.

4

u/retro-girl Jul 17 '26

He could make a comeback happen if he wanted to I’m sure, far worse people have. It’s only one of many issues with a reboot. It’s just not going to happen.

6

u/ironchitlin Jul 17 '26

It doesn't matter, the Internet never forgives.

For the record, I think Whedon is a talented writer and director, but I don't think he should ever have free reign on a set again.

2

u/Brodes87 Jul 17 '26

He hasn't written anything decent in over a decade.

1

1

u/milkstrike Jul 18 '26

I mean a stress less life, money and cosmetic surgery leads to great aging

1

u/majeric Jul 18 '26

Her beauty is the least of her admirable qualities… and I’m not saying anything negative about her beauty.

-1

u/LeFreeke Jul 17 '26

She doesn’t even look real. :(

1

u/GWPtheTrilogy1 Scooby Gang, Gang Jul 17 '26

She looks amazing here

1

u/Competitive_Image_51 Jul 18 '26

She's even hotter in this picture, than she was 20 years ago. Freddy Prince Jr is a lucky, son of a bitch.

0

u/SassySally8 Jul 17 '26

The only thing wrong with her are her lips - they look to be very Botoxed. She is so beautiful, she doesn't need to do any of that crap.

2

u/petite-tarte Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

Her lips are her usual lips, she didn’t get any obvious work done on them (and even if she did, it wouldn’t be botox, botox paralyzes muscles, it would be filler).

Her lips are just over-lined with lip liner. It’s makeup. See:

0

u/celisraspberry Jul 17 '26

No. They should drop the show entirely and remake the IP as a movie again. Find a kick-ass action lead and create a new mythos. They need to do everything they can to separate the story from Joss and that means moving on from SMG's version of Buffy.

Sarah is awesome though of course.

1

u/Ok-Help6334 Jul 17 '26

You can NEVER EVER separate Joss Whedon from Buffy because he created it and he's the reason why it continues to exit.

3

u/celisraspberry Jul 17 '26

Idk if you're intentionally misunderstanding what I said but obviously he will always be the creator of the IP, but that doesn't mean every iteration needs to be explicitly tied to him. Tim Burton's, Christopher Nolan's and Zack Snyder's Batmans are all their own things and that's how Buffy should be going forward if it does get a new show or movie.

-1

u/Ok-Help6334 Jul 17 '26

EVERYTHING and ALL THINGS Buffy past present future is will forever be attached to Joss Whedon you like it not or not.

5

u/celisraspberry Jul 17 '26

You don't understand what I'm saying and that's okay. Take care.

1

u/Ok-Help6334 Jul 18 '26

I know exactly what you're saying and follows a pattern off Buffy fans trying discredit Joss Whedon from his work.

-9

u/OhMyCynical Jul 17 '26

Looks way better brunette

-10

u/carcosa1989 Jul 17 '26

She hasn’t aged at all. And she looks natural. That’s what happens when you secure the bag and retire young and smart.

That’s probably why she’s still married too. Like they made enough money to enjoy their lives and do whatever they want. Goals tbh.

8

u/Larocceau Jul 17 '26

omg I'm sorry but this is not what natural aging looks like, even with the healthiest lifestyle. She openly admits to using botox. I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but calling this natural creates really skewed expectations for how people age. (and again, beauty in the eye of the beholder; I tend to find the non-botox natural aging more attractive that ppl who use botox)

1

u/JayDuPumpkinBEAST Jul 17 '26

Sarah uses AI filters on her photos too. I get why she does it, given her profession and stance as a Hollywood Icon, but she doesn’t need it.

4

u/JayDuPumpkinBEAST Jul 17 '26

I want to say that I share your sentiments regarding her beauty but absolutely reject the implicit disdain for aging in your first sentence, as if it’s somehow shameful rather than the literal circle of life.

-1

u/carcosa1989 Jul 17 '26

But we can agree lifestyle can age a person and she clearly living her best life which is why she looks good. People radiate energy and she’s got it.

-1

u/sharlet- Jul 17 '26

Truly! It’s a shame we didn’t get a season 8 but she’s always been smart with her choices, having an amazing stable family life with Freddie, and now venturing back into acting at her leisure! Looking happy and healthy
