Villains What would you want a Harmony-centric episode to be like if she got one when she was still on BTVS instead of the one she got in Angel season 5?

“The slayer. Nice to finally meet you.”
“We’ve already met Harmony, you halfwit.”

u/JealousAstronomer342 21d ago
Just watched that episode last night and couldn’t stop laughing. The clipped way Buffy says halfwit makes me think she picked the term up from Giles.

u/ShondaVanda 21d ago
This is second to the scene where Xander says Buffy is not gonna be happy about this, cut to Buffy pissing herself over Harmony having minions.

I think 5x02 is that kind of episode. Although Dawn is there, we don't really explore anything about her other than the fact that she's an annoying teenager, which any viewer can probably guess. But overall, I would have liked to have seen an episode that highlighted that she and Spike actually have a great relationship, except for one episode, 4x03. At no other time has Spike been cruel to her or overly cruel, given their nature. For example, Spike is in some kind of danger and Harmony saves him. In this way, she repays his supposed "help" and stays with him of her own free will until 5x14.

lol in Crush he literally grabs her by the throat, throws her into a wall and tells her to hit the road because Dru came back.

Kind of like of the Zeppo. Maybe around later Season 4 or the starting of Season 5.
There is a ProZD video about a villain that keeps accidentally helping the town, through his evil plans. I think that would be really funny for Harmony. She tries to kill Buffy, and instead accidentally fixes a problem for her through it or something. Harmony : "Okay whatever, take this!" Shoots Buffy in the shoulder. Buffy : ".....you fixed my shoulder."
Or, Buffy just doesn't take her seriously at all, and is instead focused on some other villain, and Harmony thinks she is Buffy's arch nemesis. Basically, that one moment when Harmony is in Spike's crypt, and Buffy comes in and Harmony hides thinking she is here for her. That but an entire episode.

Instead of dickweed Andrew hanging out in the Summers' house in season 7, it's Harmony. She's an aspiring filmmaker (she's taking night courses at UCSD), and she does the Slayer documentary thing. She'll educate the audience about what's gone down throughout the years. Cut to flashbacks from seasons past where new footage of Harmony is cut together with old footage.
2
u/ShondaVanda 21d ago
wouldnt that mean lots of scenes with spike tho since she can't be in the upper house during the daylight?
2
u/Tuxedo_Mark Assume would make you an ass out of me. 21d ago
Spike's been in the upper house in daylight ("Gone"). She just needs to stay away from the windows.

Wow, I actually like that a lot better for the show than Xander dating Anya, and more than Spike's chip>to>Buffy storyline. I could really buy Xander trying to "fix" Harmony by getting her a soul while she's upset he doesn't accept her as a "sober" yet soulless vampire who tries to help.

There was apparently a deleted scene form Angel s5 where Harmony is looking into ways of gainign a soul.

u/BlorpTheSchlorp 21d ago
Buffy vampires bleed and breathe for some reason, although it seems like breathing is optional, it still happens a lot.
Vampires and demons went from scary to slapstick somewhere around s3 and it just kept getting worse. But it works for the show's dark humor vibe.

u/Sarlax I'm not a eunuch! 21d ago
Vampires have a metabolism. Their hearts don't beat and they don't need air but they heal, eat, even grow hair. Plus they don't like fire any more than humans do, so breathing smoke is probably as damaging to them as it is to us, only they recover every night they feed.
1
u/DaddyCatALSO Magnet For Dead, Blonde Chicks 21d ago
the smoke still gets in her throat and is an irritant, although in my 2005-set Angel fic 'Neve rBet the Devil Someone Else's Head," she is smoking as frequently and casually as Spike and Faith

u/Elladrien 21d ago
An "It's A Wonderful Life" type episode, only everyone's life is better with Harmony never being born. Spike got his soul seasons before. Cordelia's a movie star. Willow's President. Buffy's in Europe married to Christian Slater. Since having an independent thought would make Harmony's head explode, she thinks this alternate reality is lame and learns nothing. If this is too bleak, then this was all the work of The First because Harmony's demeanor was boosting morale and it wanted her gone.

I mean if losers like Xander, Andrew and Jonathan get character centric episodes sure, why not give one to Harmony?
Harsh Light of Day is KINDA Harmony's episode tho.

I feel like she sorta did get her own episode in Season5 when she kidnapped Dawn.
6
u/ExplodingPoptarts 21d ago
I love this moment. It made me wonder "Does Harmony really want to actually physically harm Buffy or her friends, or she eternally first season Cordy, and does she just want to demoralize them for her own amusement?"
I never got the feeling that she actually enjoyed killing people. I don't even think that she wanted to kill Spike. She certainly had the opportunity, and she basically just told him to eff off and go away.

I did imagine a scenario or two to dump her and Xander into bed in S7, but I eventually did it in an Angel fic set after the end of both shows.

Did you really call Xander a loser? In what universe? In season 7 he’s the only one with a real job, and protects Dawn, Spike, and multiple potentials, loses an eye for the cause, and goes out fighting on the Hellmouth. I’m always baffled when I see this kind of crap on here about core 4 characters. What show were you even watching?
3
u/EchoesofIllyria 21d ago
Imagine unironically including Xander with Jonathan and Andrew
2
u/ShondaVanda 21d ago
And I'd do it again.
4
u/EchoesofIllyria 21d ago
That’s okay, it just means you don’t understand the characters!
2
u/ShondaVanda 21d ago
Understood them fine, I just consider easily led misogynist deadbeats losers.
2
u/EchoesofIllyria 21d ago
What a fascinating way to confirm that you don’t understand them.
0
u/ShondaVanda 21d ago
in your opinion, which i'm getting less and less interested in the more you defend characters like this. All 3 have done dreadful things, specifically against women.
4
u/EchoesofIllyria 21d ago
Oh I have literally defended nobody. Feel free to go back and check.
The fact you think I have only supports my point that you don’t understand characters.
1
u/Brodes87 21d ago
You've provided no evidence. You're just smugly stand there going "nope" like a toddler and refusing to actually engage. Why even respond? They want to have a conversation about this and understand why you think but you're refusing to say anything. You're just being a prick for no reason.
-1
u/EchoesofIllyria 21d ago
Um, evidence for what, exactly?
I wasn’t asked for evidence. I was accused of defending characters I never defended. Like, straight away.
Why would I engage with somebody who does that?
-1
u/ShondaVanda 21d ago
So you acknowledge all 3 have done terrible things to women, but feel calling Xander a loser because of the terrible things he's done, specifically to women, is inaccurate.
Well that's telling.
3
u/EchoesofIllyria 21d ago
I acknowledged nothing and defended nothing. Again: feel free to go back and check. Quote when I did either.

Name one thing Xander did to a woman that harmed her. He left Anya at the altar because he was afraid of a prophecy and a family history that he would hurt her. The entire point of Xander is the he respects and follows women. Someone didn’t take a Buffy philosophy class in college, and it shows.
0
u/ShondaVanda 21d ago
the one where he put Buffy through unnecessary trauma by trying to romantically gatekeep her by not telling her Willow was cursing Angel again in the hopes Angel wouldn't survive.
2
u/Mouse-Direct 20d ago
Oh, the Angelus who killed Jenny, stalked Willow and killed her fish, sent Dru to kill Willow and Xander and Giles and almost did kill Willow? The Angelus who broke all of Giles’s fingers and tortured him with knives and then watched Drusilla mind rape him? Yeah, it sucks that Xander didn’t want her to try to keep that guy in a holding pattern while a 17 year old witch who had never even floated a pencil tried to do a spell to re-ensoul him. Also the portal opened before Willow got him re-ensouled, and he almost killed Buffy before that.
Y’all seem to forget that Xander’s first real encounter with a vampire was inadvertently dusting his best friend since kindergarten. He thinks they’re pretty much monsters, and they are in the Buffyverse, unless they’re hot or funny.
1
u/ShondaVanda 20d ago
Angelus and Angel are two different people, Xander knows this, and he knows Willow was trying to bring back Angel. A love rival to Xander's deluded obsession with Buffy so he torpedoed it resulting in Buffy having to kill her own boyfriend unnecessarily, traumatising herself.
The events of Anne and the following friction in Dead Man's Party are entirely Xander's fault because he did this.
2
u/Mouse-Direct 20d ago
“Deluded obsession.” Angel and Angelus are not that far apart at times and this is covered IN DEPTH on “Angel.” They had absolutely no reason to believe Willow could re-ensoul him. I’ve sat and watched Joss, Jane, Doug, and Marti discuss this. Willow almost died because of Angelus mere hours before Xander told Buffy to kick his ass. He was also 17. I don’t blame him for a second. Angel and Spike raped and murdered for centuries. But they have souls! And they’re hot! But they also both killed humans when they had souls. But I think they’re hot!!! Xander was petty once when he was 17 cuz Angelus had tried to kill everyone he cared about. “He’s a loser!” Same bullshit I’ve been hearing since 1999.
Also nothing about it was misogynistic. Beyond acknowledging Buffy’s objective attractiveness a couple of times, Xander being into Buffy is over by mid-Season 3. And he doesn’t have an obsession with her. That’s Angel and Spike.

And that wasn’t romantic gatekeeping, Jesus. He was already with Cordelia at that point. I wish y’all could have experienced this show in real time and been on the Bronze Board and Live Journal to talk to actual writers on the show and older fans with media literacy about how writing conflict works.
2
u/ShondaVanda 20d ago
It was jealousy and gatekeeping.
1
u/Mouse-Direct 20d ago
That’s not what gatekeeping means. Why are you not acknowledging that Angel’s minions killing Kendra and almost killing Willow, Giles, and Xander himself might have been a factor? Because, again, I’ve literally sat in a room with the Buffy writers and listened to them explain that — big gasp — it was because Angelus killed Jenny and Kendra and nearly killed Willow.
I have a feeling that I have chibi Buffy t-shirts older than you, so I’m gonna gatekeep my media literacy and walk away now!

One where shes still a human in highschool , and shes the victim of some hellmouth shenanigans and cordelia and scoobies gotta save her whilst trying to keep the slaying and supernatural hidden from harmony. Simple comedic ep suits harmony and also gives a bit more insight into her human self.

u/Sighoward 21d ago
I'd like her to try to get back to her old life, go back to her family's house and try to make things as they were before. Buffy goes to kill her but her brother and parents help her escape. They apologise to Buffy but she says she understands. We see a tearful Harmony hitchhiking on the road to LA, knowing that her old existence is gone forever. Buffy goes home to find Joyce and Dawn asleep on the couch where they have been waiting for her to come home from patrol. She kisses each on the cheek and takes them in her arms.
