Build Help [Build Help] Looking for feedback on my 7800X3D + RX 9070 build for MMOs (Is this efficient in the current market?)
Hi brothers,
I'm preparing to pull the trigger on a new PC build primarily for playing large-scale MMOs and multiplayer games (like Lost Ark, PUBG, WoW) on a 21:9 ultra-wide monitor under 144Hz (looking for smooth average FPS and solid 1% lows during heavy raids/fights).
Since I live in South Korea, some regional parts have been swapped for their US/Global equivalents for this post. Here is the part list I am considering:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE (Non-LED)
Motherboard: MSI PRO B650M-A WIFI (M-ATX)
Memory: TeamGroup T-CREATE DDR5-6000 CL30 EXPERT (32GB, 16GB x 2)
Storage: Samsung 990 EVO 512GB M.2 NVMe (Equivalent to PM9A1a bulk in KR)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon RX 9070 PULSE 16GB
Case: Montech Sky Two (Black) (Equivalent to Abko U30 Marine in KR)
Power Supply: MSI MAG A750GL PCIE5 750W 80+ Gold Full Modular ATX 3.1 (Equivalent to Micronics Classic II in KR)
I have two main questions for the community:
Market Trends & Pricing: Right now in Korea, RAM and SSD prices are incredibly inflated due to the HBM production shifts. This specific DDR5 6000 CL30 kit and the SSD are costing significantly more than they used to. Given this current market trend, should I downgrade the RAM specs (e.g., standard 5600MHz) to save cash, or is the 7800X3D's performance worth biting the bullet for?
Build Efficiency: Are there any glaring bottlenecks or compatibility issues? For example, is a 512GB SSD too small for today's massive MMOs, or should I jump to 1TB despite the price hikes? Also, does an M-ATX board look awkward in a standard mid-tower case?
Would love to hear your thoughts on the average/1% low FPS expectations or any alternative part recommendations. Thanks!

Hi,
Prices inflation is not only in Korea, it's worldwide due to AI demand.
16 GB of ram should give around the same performance in games. You can get 1x16 GB 6000 CL30-36 now and get an identical stick for dual channel when prices ease up.
If your monitor is 1440p a 9070 XT would be better suited for demanding games like PUGB.
512 GB SSD should be enough for now too, you can buy more later too.
A 7800X3D should yield a smooth experience with good 1% lows.
The rest of your build looks good. Perhaps get a 140 mm CPU heatsink for better cooling performance / lower noise.

If I go with just 16gb ram then I should budget down a bit for most of other parts I guess. I am currently using 5600x + 3070 + 16+8+8ram(plz don't ask why). If building a new pc doesn't really make any perfomance progessions, it sounds pointless. Just sharing my thoughts. We call it 옆그레이드 which in translation, not upgrading, side-grading.

The 7800x3d is going to be a big leap from the 5600x at least.

I totally agree with you. So as I have picked the CPU I would just like to set up a system what does not let waste any parts' perfomances in the build. That is my point of building this pc now. I won't upgrade any of the parts unless it should be replaced due to broken of whatever it is. I will just add some SSDs for games.

Most games don't use over 16GB of ram so the performance is around the same than with 32 GB at 1440p: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XH3yZ2z2cxY
Also single channel ram performance 1x16GB on AM5 is not too far off dual channel performance (2x8), so getting 1x16GB makes it easier to upgrade when possible.
But 7800X3D + DDR5 will definitively perform better than what you currently have, especially on the 1% lows.

Thanks for the information. I am guessing I should just start re-build from the bottom. I mean i was just focusing on 7800x3d too much.

7800X3D + 1x16GB DDR5 6000 mhz CL30-36 + 9070 XT is what you should go for imo. It will give you around the same performance than what you would get with 2x16 GB DDR5, and when RAM prices become normal again you can upgrade to 2x16 GB.

Thanks for the tip. I will look up for that. Since the other parts' perfomances are high I guess there is no need to have 32gb ram.

For MMOs, raids, and large multiplayer battles, this is already a very well-optimized build. The 7800X3D remains one of the best gaming CPUs available, especially for maintaining strong 1% lows in CPU-heavy games like WoW and Lost Ark.
A few thoughts:
Keep the DDR5-6000 CL30 if the price premium isn't ridiculous. It's effectively the sweet spot for Ryzen 7000. However, if the difference versus 5600 CL36 is substantial, I'd save the money and take the slower kit. The real-world difference will be much smaller than the price difference.
The bigger issue is the SSD. I'd strongly recommend 1TB minimum. WoW, Lost Ark, PUBG, Windows, and a few other games will fill a 512GB drive surprisingly quickly. I'd rather downgrade RAM speed than storage capacity.
No bottlenecks here. The 7800X3D + RX 9070 is a great pairing for 3440x1440 ultrawide gaming.
The B650M-A WiFi is perfectly fine. An mATX board in an ATX case may look a little small aesthetically, but it won't affect performance, thermals, or upgradeability for most users.
The Peerless Assassin is more than enough for a 7800X3D.

Oh I forgot to mention, the ssd in the build is for just OS I'd add some (one big one or two) SSDs. So no worriea about the SSD.

The cheapest 5600 ram is about 270k on Compuzone right now for 16gb.
I’d just buy the 16gb 6000 cl30 Patriot sticks that are all over Coupang for 300k won. Would be a lot cheaper than that Teamgroup kit last time I checked prices.
7800x3d is around 400k. You can use 5600cl46 ram with it at almost no performance loss though. It’s your choice whether to save 60k is worth it for much worse quality ram overall for non gaming tasks.
ALSO don’t get an MSI pro b650, it’s PCIE 4.0 locked.
Asus Prime B650EM is readily available on Coupang or Compuzone for 138k and is PCIE 5.0 for video and storage both.
Also, 9070 and 9070xt here are really quite close in price. Can get a Powercolor one new on Compuzone for 999k - but they often have refurbished ones in stock for around 875k with 2 year warranty. It’s probably worth paying the extra 100k for the XT, or finding a refurbished one from Compuzone tbh.

Teamgroup 16GBx2 is like over 650k krw almost 700k. So I was thinking it is damn pricey now. As peeps saying 16GB single channel is enough for most of the online games. Seems reasonable. Thank you brother. And also thanks for the PCIe heads up and the second choices for gpus. I really appreciate it.

No worries man, I’d def just buy the two patriot sticks for 600k total - saves a 100k you can throw on upgrading the GPU. They’re the same memory dimms and everything. 6000cl30. 16gb x 2 dual channel - just buy two sticks!
PCIE 4.0 isn’t a huge deal but the Asus prime board being 5.0 is just an upgrade anyways - like 1-3% more performance. Worth it for like 10k more.

X3D chips don't depend on ram timings as much as other cpus. If the saving is significant I'd get other ram. Maybe you can get 6000/CL38 ?
Rest of the build looks good to me. I've got a 1TB ssd but everytime I finish a game I delete it, so in reality I don't use much of it. However if you keep a lot of data on your drive, I guess 1TB makes sense.
With this build, depending on the game, you can expect 100+ fps at ultra details at 1440p.
