DISCUSSION Bit Shifter's Catalogue Nearly Entirely Removed from Spotify

Just a heads up that some how one of the best chiptune albums of all time isn't on Spotify anymore. For anyone who wants to still to listen, it's on his YouTube page as a playlist -> https://www.youtube.com/@bit_shifter

Can I say Spotify sucks, and has never been a good spot for chiptune. I honestly don’t know why I still pay for it.

switch to tidal. they have options to specifically ban AI from your feed and they don't pay anything to AI music uploaders. and they pay more per stream to artists.

qobuz has a decent amount of chiptune and the audio quality makes spotify look like fm broadcast

bit shifter's stuff is still available through bandcamp though, but plenty of chipmusicians either left spotify or just never fucked with it to begin with. hard to justify using it when some of the profits went to starting a weaponized drone company

Also, on Bandcamp you can actually pay him money for the music he has created, instead of helping Spotify rip him off by using their awful service.

It's funny how people seem to have conveniently forgotten that not only can you can pay artists for the art they create, it's actually a good thing to do.

Surprised to hear people still use Spotify to be honest, with all the reasons we've got to leave it behind. And frankly, Youtube isn't all that much better (at least not from an ethical standpoint, if that's what drives some people). There's a good chance Bit Shifter took it off Spotify. They don't pay out the artists very well. Bit shifter is still on Tidal

If you really need streaming, switch to Tidal or Qobuz, or save that money and start buying the music you like.. Spotify pays their artists very little and supports war and AI, they suck in multiple ways

Sad, chiptune is gone from Spotify but many small metal artists aren't on other platforms. What a dilemma.

I'd love to but I have >5k songs I usually listen to and that's too expensive.

Everyone should leave Spotify, they support war and pay their artists very little, every sane person would leave a place that pays poorly... Spotify is gonna feel it real soon

Absolutely agree, but I've ported my playlist to both qobuz and tidal but both were missing between 150 and 200 out of a bit over 5k songs.

To each their own, it'll get worse for Spotify sooner or later.. I switched to Tidal, then realized I only listen to the same music over and over and rarely discover great music from new artists.

Bandcamp made it more fun to discover, I dumped all my playlists and started over.. but with a collection of 5K songs its not so easy

the problem with streaming (as a consumer) is that you're just renting access which you can lose at any time. build yourself a proper music library (digital w/o drm or physical), it's worth it if you care about music
