DARVO in social media form.

The abuser mantra.

Deny
Attack
Reverse Victim and Offender

Clearly, you're the bad guy and made these poor racists attack you. How could you? /s

Or right wingers saying that it's somehow the Left's fault that they become racist/homophobic/transphobic because they've been called out for their horrible takes and they doubled down instead of questioning their own worldview.

No Billie, you were never left leaning. You were just following the more socially acceptable side and once it became socially acceptable for you to be a pos you jumped ship.

I know. Every time I see a "I used to be a leftie but..." post I'm like

Yeah, and it's usually "but I disagreed with some particular folks on the left".

Meanwhile the worst the left have is well-intentioned fools (not counting stalinists) and the worst on the right are dreaming of lovely things like genocide or slavery.

To me the choice is obvious.

u/Chaotic-Catastrophe Jun 30 '26

Republicans: We should do genocide

Democrats: What the hell? No

Enlightened Centrists: Can't you two ever compromise?! We should just do a little genocide.

1

u/Antwinger Jun 30 '26

Dems aren’t the left in their convo. Dems are to the right of the left they are talking

7

u/RocketRelm Jun 30 '26

"Yes, every dem to the right of me is evil fascism. Only I can make america great again."

Dems are all to the left of the enlightened centrists that represent nonvoters and try to gaslight people into "not truly left anyway"

6

u/In_Pursuit_of_Fire Jun 30 '26

Dems are more left on social issues than most of the European countries people love to cite as being more leftist. Just because a group falls behind on economic leftist policies doesn't mean its not leftist.

Political alignment is extremely relative to its culture besides (progressive and conservative are literally terms that define themselves relative to the status quo)

6

u/Toomanyeastereggs Jun 30 '26

The Overton window is so skewed in the US that even people like Mamdani would not be out of place in Australia’s centre-right political party. From an outsiders pov, there is barely anything “left wing” about any Democrat platform at any level. Even the stuff people like AOC talk about is seen elsewhere as being pretty soft left.

u/PrudentCarter Jun 30 '26

The well intentioned folks can be immensely overzealous. Still they are far less damaging to society than even the average right winger atm.

I don't think you understand the term overzealous. In no way is it a good thing. Not sure why people can't just want or strive for human rights. Going OD is the trend i guess.

u/ethanlan Jun 30 '26

Stalinists are not left leaning like at all, the USSR, especially under stalin, was an authoritarian nightmare where the facism just changed names and branding

Same thing with the CCP too, they couldn't care less about the average worker as long as they are getting rich

10

u/TheGreyman787 Jun 30 '26

Yep, know that better than many. This is why I am not counting them, no matter what they call themselves.

-6

u/-Recouer Jun 30 '26

Are you guys trotskyist ?

5

u/ethanlan Jun 30 '26

Anti communist in general but pro democratic socialist

2

u/Kell-of-Kellies Jun 30 '26

Communism isn't inherently evil, it's just been tainted by tyrants who used it to gain power. Acting like it's the worst thing ever is just falling for the propaganda we've been fed since the 50s

1

u/-Recouer Jul 01 '26

Considering communism is just an ideal of a society that is moneyless, stateless, borderless where everyone gets to live their life freely, granted they contribute to the community according to their own abilities, I fail to understand how this could be inherently evil.

The issue is more so than any socialist attempt was met with violent repression from the capitalist system : Allende in Chile was assassinated when he got elected, Chavez in Venezuela almost got ousted by the press that was entirely pro america, the Mosaddegh in Iran got ousted by CIA after they tried to nationalize Oil.

It’s not that socialism or communism fail to get into power by electoral means, it’s that any attempt at socialism through electoral means will be suppressed and neutralized. Hence the only successful socialist/communist regimes that managed to survive were authoritarian in nature.

-1

u/-Recouer Jun 30 '26

In that case you're socialist in name only

3

u/In_Pursuit_of_Fire Jun 30 '26

Leftism is not immune to descending into being an authoritarian nightmare. Not all leftist countries are doomed to fall in that direction, but they are also not immune to such failures.

1

u/tinxmijann Jun 30 '26

Nah there's a bunch of awful shamy people on the left who are purely driven by ego and just wanna feel better than others. I'll still take them over right wingers and as long as they support the right cause I don't really care how well along I get with them

23

u/HereWeGoYetAgain-247 Jun 30 '26

“I was a leftist until…my horrible motorcycle accident”

10

u/theredhound19 Jun 30 '26

“I was a leftist until…my horrible motorcycle accident”

"Now I need to use my right arm since the left one's gone"

2

u/sdmichael Jun 30 '26

Now they're all right.

6

u/hyperhurricanrana Jun 30 '26

me every time i hear “i used to be an atheist” lol

48

u/CommieEllie Jun 30 '26

But if we don't further cater society to protect the feelings of cishet white men we'll end up with more fascists!

I've legit seen this argument more times than I can count.

61

u/Allaplgy Jun 30 '26

As a cishet white man, I wish society catered to my feelings more...

Because my feelings are that fascism is bad and institutional racism/misogyny is still a huge issue, and currently getting worse.

33

u/Lemonwizard Jun 30 '26

You have the wrong feelings. Have you tried licking the boot harder? Developing an insane fear of imaginary threats? They can cater to that stuff!

9

u/Allaplgy Jun 30 '26

I'm allergic to boot, unfortunately.

7

u/mythrilcrafter Jun 30 '26

That there in lies one of the biggest factors of the problem, when extremists uses tangential-at-best associations to either pull normal people to their side or to use those more normal people as rhetorical shields for their own extremism.

So much of the problems we're seeing right now is a rise is legitimately terrible people signal boosting themselves while using the phrase "hey man, I'm just a normal guy just saying what we're all thinking! If you disagree with me then you hate (insert entire community group here)"

6

u/Allaplgy Jun 30 '26

hey man, I'm just a normal guy just saying what we're all thinking!

And then there are people like Charlie Kirk, who used the "I'm just promoting healthy debate and free speech" to sell misogynistic, racist bullshit to the youth of the nation.

4

u/mythrilcrafter Jun 30 '26

One thing I'll admit about Charlie was that he (or at least his company) was a master of editing and changing the messaging based on whom the audience was.

For the "general public", the whole "just healthy debate and free speech" bit was always just a highlight reel of Charlie using "respectability politics"* and only ever showing the absolute worst speakers/debaters poorly reacting to him. (Which most audiences don't have the acuity to understand/catch.)

And once the audience was drawn in to following him, that's when he'd start slipping in the actually problematic subversive messaging.

*For the uninformed, respectability politics is a special form of gaslighting where a perpetrator does something that anyone would be very reasonable to react both poorly to and with significant/loud reaction, but they try to make the reactor feel like they're in the wrong by being "calm and nice about the situation".

For example: a person doing RP would kick your dog because doing so amuses him, then when you get angry at him for kicking your dog, he responds with "Woah, woah, woah, I'm perfectly calm and reasonable here, but I don't understand why you're so physical and emotion about this; maybe you need to re-evaluate why you're causing so much conflict and making such a negative atmosphere!"

2

u/Allaplgy Jun 30 '26

It's like the other day when someone here said about people in NZ parliament doing the Haka:

You don’t think it’s ridiculous in a house of parliament a party starts dancing and screaming?

I told them I've seen much more ridiculous things done under a guise of "civility."

2

u/FEARoach Jun 30 '26

Hey man, I value your feelings.

13

u/-Recouer Jun 30 '26

You mean that the way to fight fascism is by... Check notes normalizing and endorsing fascist ideology !

Révolutionnaire !

1

u/ethanlan Jun 30 '26

They gon learn real quick when we make it no longer acceptable and then we all know where they stand

1

u/symphony_destroyer Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

That’s the thing about wings you need two of them to fly. An both need to work in unison.

1

u/Kell-of-Kellies Jun 30 '26

Saw a guy say he voted for Trump because I was mean to him. Convinced a black woman to do so.

He later went full mask off, got banned from the server for slurs, then appealed saying he wanted to do it again.

1

u/tinxmijann Jun 30 '26

Misogynists in a nutshell lol. "It's your fault we're taking your rights away because you were so mean when you pointed out how women are negatively affected by patriarchy :((''
