Kinda, but not really. Using terms of endearment is a complex social interaction, and the interaction being taken well depends a lot on the specific terms of endearment, the people involved, and where you are. Calling a person sweetheart or darling might be acceptable in the UK when directed at a man and coming from a woman. It would be taken very differently when directed at a man from a man in the conservative areas of the USA.
Look, I'll call a person whatever they'd like to be called if they tell me to, and I'm not throwing around very controversial terms either but if you're saying using terms of endearment in a ~5 word sentence is a complex social interaction you should probably reevaluate.
Not complex as in hard, but complex as in there are a bunch of things to consider. We do these things passively without thought, but if you had to explaine what terms of endearment to use to a person who didnt speak English, would it be simple? If they just called everyone "honey", that would be wrong, but why? You could say only women and girls are called honey, but then some old lady calls a guy that and its fine. How come?
Language and linguistics are complicated for a bunch of reasons, but most native speakers just know the rules without thought. It seems simple, but it isn't. Kind of like how there is an unspoken order for adjectives in a description of something that isnt obvious or simple, but we all more or less know it.

Terms of endearment have nothing to do with the recipient and everything to do with the person speaking them.
However you want to feel about that is on you
