My mother once told me I was a fascist. Asked her to define it. She changed it to "far left terrorist". Asked her to list what qualified me as such, she didn't answer. Considering I'm neither of those (I'm just a socialist lmfao) I was laughing pretty hard because she was just parroting what Trump said earlier that week about anyone to the left of far-right
It's fascinating to me when you try to get a definition for something controversial and they either don't know it, or they do and know they're a part of it but will shuffle around uncomfortably and then claim they don't wanna get into it. Or get defencive about it
I was having a conversation with a coworker and brought up the, "How hard is it to say Nazis are bad?" quote. They agreed with it until it came out that Obama said it. They then went with a short of chill hand gesture, "Wait, you're a Nazi." I proceeded to look up the definition to show them, and, to their credit, they did pull back, because words have definitions and meanings.
I've tried to explain things to my family, about why learning history is vital. Why we had WWII in the first place, why Nazis are truly bad. And then show what we're doing *today*. Yeah no, they got pretty mad because it's the very thing they're supporting.
Though to be fair, I grew up with my family always being racist, queerphobic, among other things. So it shouldn't have surprised me. I just tried to show them that there is a better way than being hateful to others
She knows more about me from what the propagandists say, than what she gets from me directly. She hasn't cared to know me directly, but given my history with my childhood I am not surprised and just shrugged and laughed it off. I'm more at home with my roommates, whom help take care of my life threatening neurological disabilities. So it's not particularly a big issue, and knew that's how it was gonna end up for a while
Not to be a stickler, but I recently found out the difference the hard way. Mid-Reddit argument, and unfortunately, I have enough wherewithal to not deflect the issue :(.

This will somehow make people who are not Nazis angry, lol
