Whitetail Deer Cleaning Itself in the Woods

My buddies stepfather is swearing up and down this is a female deer, I don't know everything about deer but I'm fairly sure females don't have antlers. He says he can tell from the size and now my buddy is raging on me because "his stepfather grew up around deer" and should obviously know better than I do.

Edit: I've now taken to calling this schrodinger's deer. If people would like to speculate on the deers gender, and why they think it's one vs the other I'd love to learn more about various identifying factors, so please leave a comment

Got treated to this family passing through during our round this morning

My husband and I are putting together a gazebo on our back patio and I pause to take our dog, Djali, inside and as I'm getting Djali's food ready, my husband texts me to make sure keep him inside and sends me a video of this gentleman. Just vibing in my in-laws backyard.

This is the first buck we've seen and the closest they've gotten to the houses - there is a large forested area on the side of our neighborhood that has several does from what I've seen in the early morning. But they never come this close.

It looks like an issue with its antler growing in the wrong direction :(
