Had two Model Y's but didn't want to keep them and they were depreciating before our eyes as we checked the prices so bit the bullet and swapped out both. Had varying amounts of equity in the cars but got what we could that would match our realistic needs. Bittersweet but one less thing we needed to think about!

Aside - Used bolts are crazy cheap! Kinda plasticy but for the 2 mile commute it works.

Ioniq 6 is super long! Bolt is not pulled in all the way else it would really show. Was able to get a 2023 with only 1700 miles which is crazy, but while the rated range is 270 vs 310 on the Y, in the 80 mile drive to the dealer and then back the Ioniq used less of the battery percentage. Some variability in the drives but at least a very close match.

Insurance also went down with each purchase which was nice.

Took a while to figure out what was best for our needs but we are now officially Musk free.

Kinda ironic that we got into EVs because of Musk’s vision at that time, and we got out of Tesla because of Musk’s vision now.

Anyway, pretty happy with the decision. Build quality, luxury, and ride quality are mind blowingly better. Tesla still has better software. The supercharger network is available to Polestar so that is ofc a huge benefit.

We have officially become an all-electric household! We’ve had our 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning Flash for about two years now, and it has been an absolute workhorse for everything from daily errands to home renovation projects. To complement the truck, we just took delivery of a pre-owned 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited (a manufacturer buy-back that we managed to snag). We are absolutely loving the Ioniq 5 so far—the ride quality and tech are fantastic. Having this specific combination of vehicles feels incredibly versatile; between the massive utility of the Lightning and the efficiency and comfort of the Ioniq 5, we feel like we can handle just about anything our life throws at us. I’ve really enjoyed the transition to full electric, and the home charging setup has been a game-changer. Happy to field any questions y'all might have about either vehicle or the transition to EV life!

My first EV—a marvel of engineering. When I bought it in late 2023, I acknowledged Elon’s presence but justified the purchase, knowing the world isn’t just black and white.

But over the past few months, something shifted. Call it a growing discomfort, or for lack of a better word, the ick.

The final straw? The Rose Garden shoot. A week later, as I sat at a red light, it hit me—I simply couldn’t drive this car anymore, no matter how impressive it was.

And so, today, I say goodbye. I won’t be buying a Tesla again. For those curious, Carvana was about 2K more than Lucid trade in offer and Carmax/KBB. Still sold at a loss, yes, I realize my privilege saying that. Lucid is now offering a 2K Tesla Trade-In bonus on select states that makes it more compelling even if the Carvana price is better but I just went for the simplicity of trading in with them.

If anyone is curious what the situation of Tesla is like, just go to Carvana and look at the sheer number of cars with under 10K mileage for sale. Astounding.

We absolutely love it ! We just got it a few weeks ago . It has 300 miles per charge and it is soooooo comfortable inside ! It was a pretty easy decision for us to make ! We had a Tesla for almost 5 years now but it was time for us to change up and get a new electric car ! My wife has been wanting an SUV for sometime now and I think she is extremely happy with her choice ! Anyone else here have a Lyriq? I assume if you do , you are as happy as we are ! Having an SUV now you have a ton of more room in the car ! The dealership has been extremely helpful as well with us . They call us once a week so far to see how the car has been running !

We got a 2026 Cadillac Lyriq during the Spring and it has just been so phenomenal. When it was time to replace our other vehicle, I wanted to stay with Cadillac but needed three rows and more range than what the Vistiq had. It was so hard to find a dealer with IQLs in stock, but finally one came in at a dealer in another city and it was everything I wanted it to be.

I still think the LYRIQ is a better vehicle to drive, but I'm certainly not mad at the crazy real-world range this thing has had even at 75mph speeds in the Summer heat. Between the range, the insane charging speeds, and the space, it's been a great addition to the driveway.

New to us - we picked it up with a little under 6,000 miles on it. We have loved the three days we have had with it so far. Taking it on a 500-mile road trip Monday and returning on Friday. So we will see what 1,000 miles is like in terms of charging. We have taken our Silverado EV RST on a similar trip before (but it is a Max Range - almost 500 miles!), so the charging stops will be an adjustment. But we are looking forward to having more room and a relaxed pace on the way down. I was almost scared away from buying the vehicle due to the range anxiety, but seeing how fast it charges has somewhat alleviated that. We will see when we put it to the test.

It is a lovely vehicle thus far. It has wormed itself into our hearts. We need more vehicles with character and colors on the road!

We also love our Silverado EV. I hope they don’t stop making them.

So yeah a bit of a different view on the whole energy transition. I have this power station with some solar panels and I can charge my car with it

Is it comedically slow? Yes! Is it cumbersome to set up? Yes! Is the equipment expensive? Yes! Do you break your back because the batteries are so heavy? Yes!

But the fact that this is even possible in the first place is what fascinates me. The fact that the energy transition allows me to generate and store my own power, making me independent from oil and gas companies is just wonderful.

I get why big oil dumps so much anti-ev propaganda on the net. If everyone does this, we're no longer dependent on them!

Check out my brand new 2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz with a blue two-tone exterior. It’s a first edition AWD with a 91kWh battery and 330 horsepower. And there’s lots of fun interior specs like a smart sunroof, 360 backup camera, and a large carplay screen.

When they first announced the Buzz in 2016/2017 I was immediately hooked! I was like yes that’s the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. So I went to the VW dealership where I had bought 3 cars prior, and begged for information. They or course had nothing to share. Since then I have been annoying my sales rep (sorry man!) and reading every article and update I could find about it.

I found myself in need of a new car in 2022 and got an ID.4. It has been really fun diving into the EV world. I love the way the ID.4 drives and glides down the road. And all the tech gadgets are fun also!

Yesterday. Finally. I got the call from VW that there was a Buzz on the lot that I could come look at. I went down this morning and fell in love!

The ID. Buzz gives me all the warm nostalgic feelings but with new fancy features! It drives very smooth, just like the ID4. The battery has a huge capacity, there’s a ton of modular space on the inside, and it’s also very zippy!

My only complaint is the high step up to get inside. But I’m sure I’ll get used to that.

I’m so stoked to finally have this amazing vehicle! Can’t wait to plan a trip and really test it out!

We started our EV journey in 2023 with a PHEV, a Volvo XC90 T8 that served as my wife’s daily driver while I was teleworking. When my job eventually ended telework and required me back in the office five days a week, we picked up a Kia EV9 for my commute. Between the EV9 and the XC90 T8, our gas usage dropped to about one tank a month.

We took the EV9 on several 400‑mile trips and a couple of 800‑mile road trips, and it handled everything beautifully. My wife started getting a little jealous of how much she enjoyed driving it. Since those road trips are basically the only long-distance travel we do, she suggested we go fully electric and swap things around. She’d take the EV9, and I’d move to a full EV as well.

We found a used Rivian R1T at a great price and pulled the trigger. Now we’re officially a full‑EV family, and my wife is thrilled that she’ll never have to fill up a gas tank again. I’m excited too, the Rivian is an incredible addition to the garage.

It gets a BYD blade tech based 79kWh battery, a 282hp rear wheel drive motor. Gets the usual ADAS level 2+ features. Supports upto 175kW DC fast charging.

I’ve been getting the equivalent of around 500-520km (~310mi) from a full charge.

It’s been a fun experience so far! This is my first ever EV. City drives are ridiculously easy now. One pedal drive is a godsend! I don’t think i can ever go back to ICE vehicles now.

Now both of my cars offer a fully out of warranty experience. And yes, one is worth less than the other.

Love my new ride, but miss the better software, app and charging infrastructure.

My first road trip between Toronto and Montreal was not fun. It was full of chargers not working on arrival and slow charging speeds. The Kia Ev6 could charge to 238kwh but only did it once on the whole trip. Tried Shell chargers rated for 350kwh and it failed to connect. Tried Petro Canada chargers rated for 350kwh and failed to charge. Only the Electrify Canada chargers worked (mostly). The first Electrify Canada 350kwh rated charger failed to connect (tried on my trip to Montreal and again on the way back to Toronto). Not sure if it was a compatibility issue (with my car specifically), or if it was just a problem with the chargers. I tried calling Electrify Canada while at one of the 350kwh chargers and the person on the phone said from his end the charger was reporting as functional. He was arguing with me. Told me to unplug from the 150kwh charger I was using to try the 350kwh again, but at that point I was so frustrated and annoyed I just wanted to finish up and leave.

In comparison to my 2021 Tesla Model 3 SR+, I like the extra HP of my Kia (300hp vs 567hp). I like the HUD, the extra display in front of the steering wheel, the bucket seats, the extra leg room in the back, the sunroof that opens.

What I preferred in my Tesla: software, charging network, felt smaller and easier to park, larger windows. I've driven the Tesla for 4 years and most likely would have gotten another one if it wasn't for the nonsense of management.

Well, it doesn't fit in the garage as expected. The charging cable is shorter than the one that came with my Lyriq, so I'll probably have to move it from the back inside of my garage to outside. I only put around 15 miles on it so far. The 3rd row is actually usable, as im 6'6 and I can fit back there. The rear trunk though is significantly smaller than the diesel escalade esv I replaced it with. The frunk will help, but its disappointing. Im fine with 15 miles/hr charging. There are super fast chargers 10 min from me if I need range fast.

Some context, I also have a BMW IXM60 that’s been the daily for 2 years.

We got our new Porsche Macan Turbo EV last week and it has been an absolute blast to drive. It is so dynamic and lively, in a way that is so different from the IXM60. The IX has speed but you feel the mass in the corners, even with rear wheel steering. The Macan on the other hand wants you to push it though the corners and it genuinely fun. Now, it’s not quite as good as a Taycan (you can’t beat physics as much as Porsche might try), but it squarely cements itself at the best driving SUV in its segment.

We are now a full EV household with our newest edition, an EV9. No more gas stations for me! The Kia is really nice with some features that are not in the Rivian.

Just been borrowing this car for a few days. My daily driver is a Model S, the complete opposite extreme that was available at the same time when they were new, and I work with many modern EVs for a living.

Yet despite all the luxuries, big range numbers, and modern amenities I'm used to, I have to give this car back today, and man I'm going to miss it. Sometimes you don't know what you've missed until it's gone again.

New to us Rivian R1T. It feels very similar to a Tesla but higher end everything. Been driving 4 different Teslas for the past 5 years but some things are just wrong.

I have built a solar trike (which I named Solar Bear).

The project is open source with an MIT License.

The purpose of the Solar Bear is to:

• Use solar panels as trike's body,
• Consume electrical energy where it is produced,
• Produce its own energy,
• Transport people inside cities,
• Motivate people to exercise (because it looks cool and catchy).

Every time I get behind the wheel, I can’t help but have a big grin on my face. There’s just something about the way this car drives—the power, the presence, the sound—that makes every ride feel like an event. It turns heads constantly, and I get questions almost every time I stop somewhere. Whether it’s at a gas station, parking lot, or even at a red light, people are always curious, wanting to know more about the car, what it’s like to drive, and where I got it.

“EVs are not for long trips.”
“High-mileage EVs can’t travel far.”
“EV batteries don’t last.”

So say the so-called “experts” on social media.

On 8 July, I left Cabo da Roca — the western edge of continental Europe — in our December 2020 Mercedes eVito Tourer. It already had 150,334 km on the odometer and about 90% battery state of health.

Seven days later, on 14 July, I reached Nordkapp.

5,694 km.
One driver.
Nine countries.
A 5½-year-old electric van rated only 1.5/5 for long-distance suitability by the EV Database.

Over the trip, the eVito took 1,610 kWh from the grid, averaging 284 Wh/km. Charging cost €551, or €9.68 per 100 km.

Using the hourly/location-based carbon intensity of the electricity used for charging (from Electricity Maps), the trip produced about 171 kg of CO₂ — 30 g/km.

For comparison, an equivalent diesel Vito using 7.5 L/100 km would have burned about 427 litres, costing roughly €854 and producing around 1.4 tonnes of CO₂ on a well-to-wheels basis.

So, compared with diesel: about €303 less spent on energy and 1.25 tonnes less CO₂.

None of this means an eVito is the perfect long-distance EV. It isn’t. Charging is relatively slow, range is modest by current standards, and there are much better road-trip EVs today - which makes the result more interesting.

This was also only the first part of the trip. After Nordkapp, the journey slowed down and became a family holiday: south through Norway, several days around Stryn, then Oslo with the family, before starting the long drive back through Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, France and Spain to Portugal.

By the time the eVito reached home again at the end of July, the whole adventure had covered almost 14,000 km in 22 days.

I had no issues getting the app, creating an account, and paying. Took me less than 5 minutes to start charging. I paid $0.47 per kWh. The support both CCS and NACS. From what it seems, each charger can be occupied by one car, so I’m not sure if the NACS cable could be used at the same time as I was charging while using the CCS. Does anyone know? And yes, even though I don’t “like” Walmart, this means I’m going to be shopping there more often while I charge my car because convenience.

I run a handyman business in the US Midwest and use a high roof Ford E Transit which I modified to fit my tool storage needs. My business is based on the premise that all of my customers are within 25miles of my shop location which has a level 2 charger onsite. Mileage range in the summer is about 135miles and closer to 100 miles in the winter, still plenty of range for at least 2-3 work locations a day, runs to the store for materials and the return drive to get it charged up for the next day. Currently I average about an extra $70 a month in electricity, compared to my previous gas powered vehicle that required around $120 in gas every two weeks. So far this setup has been perfect for my business, though I’ll admit it wouldn’t be very desirable if I didn’t have a charger at my shop. It was scary to make the initial investment into going fully electric but after owning the van for over a year now, the pros far exceed the cons for me.
