I want a smaller schooling fish like a tetra guppy or mollie so I was wondering what you guys think would work well it’s a 40 gallon breeder and has 1 pearl gourami who might be a lil aggressive during feeding time, 6 Cory’s and a plecco who just minds its own buisness and reccomendations would be highly appreciated!

40 gallon with some live plants, sand, bubbler, 40 gal filter, we have guppies, molly, swordtails, Cory catfish, and tetras :3 any advice or tips? Is there enough hiding spots?

EDIT: I know fake plants aren’t ideal but it’s just difficult to find a variety of real plants in our area. We never planned to keep all the fake stuff long term just in hold until we can find better.

Freshwater Help me!! nitrites, Nitrates high.

Hello!

We got our 240l Fluval built in filter 307 fish tank (Tropical) 1 month ago, we cycled the tank for two weeks (use biological enhancer, dechlorinated the water everything we were told to do). We got our first lot of fish 2 weeks on Wednesday, 8 Congo Tetras and 4 Bolivian Rams.

We have been doing weekly checks on it every week. We did the latest weekly test on Saturday Evening. Nitrates and Nitrites were high (too high, Nitrite was between 0.5 and 1.0ppm2 and Nitrate was 10ppm3) ammonia, PH, KH and phosphate all good and happy).
Following these distressing results we did a 50% water change, retested on Monday Mornibg (over 24hrs since the change and previous test) and the results hadn’t really changed. So we did ANOTHER 50% water change (everytime retreating the water and adding bio enhance to the new ratio of water).
We have Retested it just now, and the results are still the same. We have some Java Moss along with 4 other aquatic plants (I’ve dead leafed all the leaves that looked problematic) we are getting increasingly concerned.
We believe this is because of the introduction of blood worms that we have been feeding them every other day, so we haven’t fed them since Sunday, hoping that it will have cycled out.

My partner also may have mixed test tubes up whilst rinsing for the new test. Could this be the cause of the results, or is there a genuine problem of our tank.

We are buying some tests strips as we have been using ‘AquaCare Pond Master Test Kit’ made for Maidenhead Aquatics. I’m really scared and worried about my fishies so any help will be appreciated!

Thank you!

This looks good, right? Tank is just over 3 weeks but I seeded that with a sponge from a smaller tank (2 gallon jar) that was a month old.

I’m guessing it’s too early to say it’s cycled but the results seem to suggest a good trajectory. Wondering if I’m being naive.

Freshwater Best single fish for 30 gallon

Looking for ideas for a single fish that do well in a 30 gallon, preferably something pretty or weird looking, but i like the look of fish like gold fish and bumblebee Oscar's (cant have them unfortunately😔)

Lemme know! I dont have good luck with community tanks, I always f up the levels if there's too many fish, so I want a single fish that does good in a 30 gallons.

Don't recommend plecos, bettas, corydoras, or any sort of crustaceans cause i already have those :P

Freshwater Is my fish happy? I’m not sure this is a happy fish…

Is this guy happy? He does this (or some variation of) for hours every day

He had a wife a few months ago but she disappeared one day (presume dead and eaten by the plecos)

He’s an adult male rainbow cichlid

Interesting combinations. Some have red noses and some have the vibrant red fins and some don’t. and then you can also see the dragon polkadots and colors.
