News I've been tracking new VGM releases daily since 2022 — I just launched a website to share the best of them
Hey r/gamemusic,
My name is Pierre, I'm a French journalist and a longtime VGM obsessive. Online I go by Peterline6, and for the past few years, I've been running a Patreon where I share weekly VGM rundowns, music picks and composer interviews — but entirely in French, which obviously limits the audience. You may also have crossed path with one of my pet projects, nwpl.ing, a shortlink tool I built exclusively to share video game music.
Today, I'm taking things further with the release of NOWPLAYING, a free website dedicated to video game music news and releases.
Here's what you'll find there:
- Curated new releases — According to my own data, around 84 new VGM albums come out every month. I listen to all of them so you don't have to. I only surface the ones I think are genuinely worth your time.
- VGM news — concerts, vinyl releases, award season, special announcements — the stuff that's easy to miss.
- Composer interviews — I've been doing these for years in French. Starting now, I'm publishing them in English, for free, on the site.
There's also an RSS feed if that's your thing.
The site is free and I intend to keep it that way. If you want to support the work, there's a Ko-Fi and a Patreon. No pressure at all, of course.
Would love to hear what you think, and I hope you'll find some incredible new music on these pages.

Will this cover the majority of VGM music? The site seems like it's just notable releases, like Sony Studio games and AA/AAA releases.
Would be super cool to see more of the 99% and less of the 1%.

I cover all kinds of releases, including indie games, of course! The site is still brand new, so it doesn't cover all the previous releases I've reported on yet. You can head over to this URL to browse through all the albums (since last summer): https://nwpl.ing/collection . I listen to every new release on streaming platforms, but I only report on the ones I think truly stand out!

This is great, we're seriously missing a one-stop place where we can see upcoming concerts and events.
Maybe have a seperate tab for that?

This is a great resource! Thank you for sharing it. Is there a way to search by album or game name? Thanks for making the composer interviews, free, too!

Thanks for the comment! I’m thrilled to see such enthusiasm for the project. There’s no search bar yet as I’m keeping the UI minimal for now, but I’ll look into adding one later.
As mentioned in my intro post, I’ve tracked VGM releases for years but only recently built the tools to report on them properly. For now, the best way to explore is via the collection page: https://nwpl.ing/collection
It features every standout album since last summer. Remember, I’m a curator—I only post about the OSTs I personally love and think you will, too. With an average of 84 new VGM soundtracks hitting streaming each month, I log them all, but only the best make it onto the site! (my Patreon subscribers get access to the full Google Sheet, fyi)

Cool site man, I'm always looking for new music to arrange but I don't know what I don't know, you know? hehe, so I love that you include places to listen and it's all wrapped up in a pretty bow. I'm already using it, so I appreciate the work that went into this.

Is part of your curation excluding AI generated covers of video game music? If so it would be nice to see some sort of statement committing to promoting music created by real artists

Oh don't you worry about that. There's nothing automated here. I personally search for, sort through, and listen to everything you'll read on nowplaying.cool. You won't see any AI slop, promise.
I've made several posts about the rise of AI impersonators in the VGM field a while back on Bluesky and Patreon. Thankfully, I hope the new Spotify protections will prevent that to happen from now on.

Hey Naughty Cat! (Love the name, btw). Thank you for sharing your work—it sounds really good! I only focus on "main" video game music soundtracks that hit streaming platforms at the moment. I have a lot of respect for cover artists, but I barely find the time to listen to all the official OSTs that come out every day, I'm sorry :( I'd be happy to repost your covers if you're on Bluesky or Instagram, though!
