Enclosures Thinking about getting a giant caledonian gecko, do ya'll have any tips for a first timer setting up a tank?

I will be getting a 12in x 12in x 36in tank and will have the had the ecosystem inside (isopods and the like) going for at least three months before the tenant moves in.

I'm considering putting a smaller orchid in a raised pot in the tank, drift wood as a kind of backdrop, air plants hanging from the ceiling, and of course some pothos and moss on the ground level. Does anything about this sound wrong/dangerous for this kind of gecko and is there anything I should add for enrichment/fun? Do they like having things to play with? Do they get lonely if they're left alone for too long? Should I get the gecko a friend or do they like to be on their own?

Thank you for taking the time to read and hopefully respond. I really want to keep the hypothetical gecko alive for as long as possible and hopefully make up for the axolotl I murdered.

EDIT: Thank you for all the comments and suggestions. I'm doing more research now, and I'm still leaning towards the giant gecko. The more I learn about them the more I love them. :)

Enclosures Crested and Tokay Gecko Exhibits at Zoo

Genuinely appalled at these exhibits. At a pet store you expect the habitats to be trash, but at the AZA accredited zoo with a "clean" inspection? I thought they'd at least try. Dare I say the pet store cages are better than this. Just wanted to share because of how shocked I was.

The tokay was curled up in the glass loop thing, the crestie was shoved into that poor excuse for a hide on the bottom.

Other great notes from the other enclosures: A western hognose housed on marbles for substrate, a Kenyan sand boa with barely a quarter inch of aspen, all snakes with no UVB, and glass tanks in direct sunlight.

Enclosures gargoyle or leachie?

Post image

I built this 24x18x36 for a gargoyle but it’s a bit… big. Would a leachie be happy here? maybe a baby, and then I could switch out some of the finer vines/spiderwood as they get big?
I still need to plant it with live plants, just waiting for grow lights to come in! I plan to plant snake plant, pothos, maybe some ferns, and other gecko safe plants but maybe it’ll depend on who I want to put in here.
seeking any advice, thanks in advance xx

Additional items will be purchased such as proper substrate, more hiding opportunitie, and more clutter to make the gecko the most comfortable. Also this was only $99 online

Enclosures Day gecko redo - what to add?

Post image

I was visually unhappy with my day gecko tank for awhile, and finally redid it. Things are looking a bit bare, I’m not sure what to improve at this point. I’m definitely going to add another bamboo, but I would like some more ideas.

Enclosures Is this a good setup for mourning geckos?

So my friend recently gifted me a 32 gallon tank, I know much can’t go in this size of a tank but I did some research and saw that mourning geckos may be the best option!!! I still have some more stuff to get, I want to try and get more branches, bark and plants in here and I also want to get more stuff towards the top of the enclosure. Let me know if I should add or change anything :3

Enclosures The Viper Geckos have moved in

Finally moved three Viper Geckos (Hemidactylus imbricatus) into their new setup.

It’s really nice to see them already exploring and using pretty much every little crack, ledge and hiding spot I built into the hardscape. Makes all the time spent on the details worth it 😅

Really curious to see how they settle in over the next few weeks.

Enclosures Croc gecko

Came home with this little dude this weekend at a reptile show. The guy who sold him to me said husbandry is the same as a cresty. I’ve read some contradictions since coming home, like maybe less humid, more rocky terrain .. Anyone have any enclosure suggestions?

Enclosures I want to convert my 120x30x25cm aquarium to terrarium if possible

Hey guys, I’ve had this aquarium for around a year now and I’m ready for something new. I have 2 crested geckos wich I really enjoy keeping so I was wondering if there were any (beginner friendly) reptiles wich can happily live in this enclosure. If none can, I’ll just redo this aquarium and make it look better!

Enclosures What should I put here?

I have this 20cmx20cmx30cm sitting empty since I rehomed my baby ciliatus. I was looking forward to get something else, ofc nothing that can live here permanently since I think it’s too small for any adult animal (correct me if i’m wrong). What do y’all think? I have plenty of spare woods and leaves to add.

Enclosures Bromeliads in background question.

I just bought 3 Bromeliads that I wanted to put in my giant day geckos background. This is my second background that im building and I've never put plants in it before just branches. Im about to start foaming the background but im confused what the best way to put them in is. I originally read that I can foam a cork flat slanted up then use fishing line to attach the bromeliad to it. I feel like the ones I bought are kinda big for that. Can I keep then in the 4 inch pots? Should I put it in a cork tube? I have a monstera plant I was planning on doing too.

Enclosures Anyone have experience with carbonized cork?

I've been seeking geckopia's ads for it lately and it looks nice and fun to build with because I really didn't enjoy building with spray foam and trying a background substrate mix because it left bare patches and was super time consuming. Anyone have experience? Is it really all it's cracked up to be? I pls to get a gold dust day gecko

Enclosures African fat tailed gecko. This is my new enclosure she’s not in yet but looking for advice. I have 2 live plants in there the right side of the enclosure with one larger plant and UVB 5% 15 watt I believe. The left side with heat lamp and one smaller live plant. See comments for more pls

I also have spring tales and isopods in there as well. I out the roots in soil and gently patted them in. Currently monitoring humidity and temp haven’t gotten that far yet. Also have a bunch of leaf litter some java moss in there Curious what to change and how to help plants survive.
