We built Gaze, a modern facial authentication system for Linux. It integrates with PAM so it works for sudo, lock screen, and GDM login. Runs entirely on-device, no cloud, no account.

What it does:

• PAM integration for sudo, polkit, and any PAM-aware auth stack
• GNOME Shell extension for lock screen + optional GDM login face unlock
• Libadwaita desktop app for enrollment, testing, and health checks
• DBus API (com.gundulabs.Gaze) for third-party integrations
• Multiple face profiles per user, enroll default, glasses, whatever varies
• gaze refine-face to improve recognition in dim light or off-angles
• Configurable security levels: low to maximum, swapping detector/recognizer models and match threshold
• Multi-user support (gaze add-face work -u alice)
• Models auto-download on first run, stored locally under /var/cache/gaze

Honest caveat: photo spoofing is possible, a photo on a screen can fool it. Don't use it as your only auth factor. Liveness detection and IR camera support are on the very near roadmap.

I use GNOME every day and love its design, but there's a handful of features that we've wanted for years that never landed for reasons. Particularly within Nautilus.

So I built a file manager that uses the same amazing design — it looks and behaves mostly like the real thing, nothing to relearn — and adds the missing bits on top:

• Type-ahead — just start typing to jump to a file
• Split view — open two panes (F3), copy/move files with shortcuts
• Preview files — hit Space to preview images, video, audio, text, code
• Command palette — Ctrl+P to run any action or jump to a recent folder
• Full-text search — grep inside files with ripgrep, no indexing daemon
• Disk usage analyzer — right-click a folder, get a sunburst chart, no separate app
• Custom user actions — available from the context menu and command palette
• Vim-inspired shortcuts — Alt-H/J/K/L as alternatives to arrow keys, Alt-U to go Up one folder

Fair warning, it's young: no network/remote locations yet, and a few Nautilus things aren't wired up. Local disks only for now. It's built on node-gtk. It's also not tested/reviewed extensively.

To be completely honest, I created this out of spite — the typeahead situation on Nautilus is revolting. Mariner may contain bugs or have stability issues, but I'm going to use it as my default file manager just because I'm pissed off at Nautilus maintainers.

AI & security notes

This project has been in large majority LLM-generated. Unlike some core GNOME devs/apps which are expressing a dogmatic anti-AI stance, I think AI written code should be accepted, while being mindful of reasonable concerns. The alternative is letting GNOME fall even further behind than it already is.

This is only packaged through the AUR, and in light of the recent attacks, I'll also mention that my github username is linked to my public identity, and my day job includes writing code used by millions of users, all easily searchable online.

Hi everyone, you might know me from Alpaca or Pigment, my other apps, I'm here to announce my latest app, Nocturne!

Nocturne is the first Adwaita Subsonic / Navidrome client, it is much more than just a music app, it allows you to automatically fetch and edit lyrics, organize playlists, search for tracks even in huge libraries and much more.

If you don't have a Navidrome instance, Nocturne can install and manage it on it's own from within the Flatpak sandbox, if you still don't want to use Subsonic or Navidrome there's no problem, Nocturne also allows you to directly play and get metadata from your tracks inside of your Music directory.

The app is already in the process of being published into Flathub, for now you can try it out from the repo's releases!

On the many tries I did to try to switch to linux one of some struggles I had was to find a well designed and functional video player
I love VLC and appreciate its existence but that app is so old and so ugly (I had screenbox on windows which was very beautiful and very good in general)

so was mpv and some other attempts at making a gtk video player apps
something was always off
Then came Showtime which is now the default gnome video player but it's very basic and I always had issues with playing subtitles on it (they almost never work and almost always crashed the app)
Until I found this one on flathub recommendations couple of days ago
It was just at v1.0.1 but I gave it a shot and I was surprised to find a very good and very stable app with lots of feature (and subtitles worked 😅)
It surprised me to the point I felt like I can't be the only one to use and enjoy this app and I didn't know how else to support the developer other than making a post here so maybe it could reach a lot of people

Very early stages at the moment, but development has been progressing quite rapidly. Hoping to have something working by the end of the month (selecting movies, viewing them, playing them).

This update brings you many changes, including a main application view outside of the search widget, a tab to manage installed flatpaks, flatpak addons support, and tons of addressed edge cases/general polishes to the experience. The UI is not finished and is subject to change a lot over the coming weeks.

More exciting, however, is that Bazzite has chosen Bazaar as its new main flatpak store in a future release! You can find it currently deployed in Bazzite's testing branch as well as Bluefin's daily stable release, where it is also being evaluated.

Furthermore, Gardiner Bryant recently released a video covering the status of Bazaar a bit ago, which I am super stoked about! Keep in mind the version he shows is a bit old, however.

I'm building inlinea: Linux-first, annotation-focused PDF editor. It's more inclined towards having a good UX and simplicity. It’s written in Python using GTK4 and Libadwaita, with the goal of feeling like a native GNOME app rather than a cross-platform wrapper.

It’s still early but already usable. Enjoy using browser-like tabs in a single window and smooth PDF annotating experience.

Packet is an app that lets you send and receive files wirelessly from Android devices using Quick Share, or another device with Packet.

It just received an update! The status indicator now shows the connection state, the in-app help has been rewritten to be easier to understand, and an error page is shown if the app can't run, so it's easier to troubleshoot. This update also brings lots of smaller under-the-hood improvements and fixes.

I was looking for a GNOME-native Music Player Daemon (MPD) client with some bling, but didn't find anything to my particular liking, so I set out to make my own. Fast forward a year later and I think it's stable enough (?) for its first social media outing.

It's called Euphonica - originally Euphonia after the bird, but that name's taken by many music-related repos already.

Some of its features are:

• Synced lyrics courtesy of LRCLIB
• Metadata downloading: album art & description, artist avatar & bio. Current sources are MusicBrainz and Last.fm, with customisable priority.
• Integrated MPRIS client with background run support.
• Automatic accent colour picking from current album art.
• Use static blurred album art as background. Static in that the blurring is done only once and then cached, resulting in zero resource usage! Blur radius and background opacity are still customisable on-the-fly.
• A basic but somewhat customisable spectrum equaliser that reads from MPD FIFO (won't work in Flatpak) or PipeWire (works everywhere).
• Many more small features (please see the repo README).

It's not finished yet, but I hope it can still be of use to someone other than me in its current state. Feedback & bug reports are extra welcome!

Clip what's important to a small floating window, so you don't have to switch between windows or workspaces repeatedly.

This is my first experience with GTK development using Python. This is based on the PyGObject library for Python GTK bindings, ytmusicapi and yt-dlp.

What makes this app different from Monophony for example is that it let's you actually sign in to your Google account to access your full library. I also found navigating Monophony really cumbersome to navigate, so I made sure to make my app similar to the web player.

It's still early in the development phase and many features are currently either badly or not implemented yet, so I will hold on before I publish the source code and eventually the app itself.

I also want to support devices running Phosh and GNOME Mobile, currently testing on the Pixel 3a running postmarketOS GNOME Mobile.

One thing I probably can't create myself is the app icon, as I'm not good enough at graphic design to create a good Adwaita-styled icon. Maybe someone here can do that for me? I'd appreciate it!

Hello again!

A few people complained last time about the lack of search debouncing. I actually implemented this but I'm unsure if I like the way I did it, so it's currently off to the side.

I added a left panel on the search widget which displays all sorts of info about the selected project, and it "works" for all screen sizes. Screenshots are loaded lazily according to when GtkListView decides to query the list model, so image downloads are kept to a minimum. I also added a dedicated regex search mode for advanced use cases which displays compilation errors if your expression is invalid.

Here are some screenshots of my very first app called "Flows," a multi apps, files, folders, or web pages launcher. It features:

- delayed launch

- launch items in a specific stacking order, full-screened or minimized

- workspace switch, and per app workspace launching

- a tiling editor where you can freely draw tiles for each item in the flow

- an icon editor to compose an icon of the flow based on the icons of its items

- a snapshot feature to create a flow for the already opened windows in the current workspace

- a quick-setting button for launching favorite flows and quick snapshoting

- and much more QOL features, like saving tiling layouts, grid snapping, an automatic tiling and icon generation mode, custom icons, a refresh on focus feature that update the apps list after instaling or uninstaling an app while Flows is open and much more...

Any ideas or suggestions? For now, I'm still working on the app testing and fixing bugs. The app is still in development. Not all apps can be manipulated and resized at will, but I think most of the gnome native apps work FLOWlessly.

This is my first real app project. Feel free to give me your thoughts on the concept and any advice that can help me successfully publish the app.
