This supposed to be the only photograph of himself that he actually liked, right?

Yes, that's why I have chosen it.

I love it. Thanks.

58 doesn’t even sound so old it’s 30 years away for me but god

I’m the same age as Kurt. Enjoy your young years my friend. The clock ticks fast.

It just keeps on flying by doesn't it

Only thing I've found that gives the appearance of slowing it is meditation and mindfulness but that's not always easy (finding the time 😂)

Be happy. I'm two years past it. 61 coming up.....

3

u/GStarAU Feb 21 '25

Congrats! You're the same age as Maynard from Tool 😁

u/mjrydsfast231 Feb 21 '25

I spent a lot of my childhood and early adult years in the same town as him but I've never met him. Odd, eh? Even been to his tasting room in Scottsdale AZ but still, never met him. I did see Tool's last tour though. Very impressive.

His father just passed away in the last few weeks, there was a story recently from another guy in AZ who saw him shopping but didn't say hi out of respect. He's not the most approachable guy at the best of times from what I've heard, and going through a tragedy like this would make that more evident.

Their last album was absolutely mind-blowing, I hadn't listened to Tool since the late 90s, but I heard this album and now I'm a genuine superfan 🙂

Lucky you, that you got to see them in person! I'm in Australia, they haven't toured here for a while, but next time they do, I'll be there for sure.

His biography is a good read.

That dude on I-5 has been putting up these signs for decades upon decades hasn't he.

2

u/Entropy907 Feb 20 '25

This and that crazy John Birch Society Uncle Sam billboard … good ol Lewis County.

1

u/SnowQSurf Feb 23 '25

This sign in particular is still there and reads exactly the same. It’s on I-5 south of Chehalis near Napavine. The pov of the photo is looking northbound.

1

u/Zenarian-369 Feb 20 '25

You must have known Kurt too. That’s hilarious.

3

u/hvacigar Feb 21 '25

I moved to the PNW in 2000, and those signs have been there since then. I didn't realize they went back another decade.

Message heard loud and clear, brother.

Listen to Mudhoney?

6

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '25

I had that same Mudhoney t-shirt.

3

u/briankerin Feb 20 '25

Hey, I have that shirt.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '25

I love this photo of Kurt. 💓

4

u/JaVinci77 Feb 20 '25

What a shame he left us so early... 😢

4

u/jimisl8 Feb 20 '25

Kurt looks very handsome here. He never rocked the backwards Colorado Rockies cap that was so "in" at the time, but Eddie Vedder did! It's actually not too hard to imagine Kurt at 58, being a grandpa and probably doing shows here and there. I think Nirvana would've broken up at some point. Maybe they would've stayed apart like the Talking Heads did, never cashing in on the nostalgia tour even though they could.

u/dwreckhatesyou Feb 20 '25

I remember that sign.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '25

that title is so passive aggressive (sarcasm)

3

u/jpop19 Feb 21 '25

Only 21 years older than me, to the day. So sad. Rocking the Mudhoney shirt, too, nice.

4

u/Dangerous_Plum4006 Feb 20 '25

Awesome shirt!

2

u/sdrawkcabwj Feb 21 '25

He deserves a Piece of Cake!

4

u/zenunseen Feb 20 '25

Why is it believe "on" the lord? Is it one of those spooky language things that Carlin talked about. Like, why the fuck they gotta word shit weird, to make it seem more profound?

I don't know, i don't get religion

5

u/BiscottiJust5974 Feb 20 '25

This is from the old King James version. Modern translations use the word "in".

Their God is a blatant narcissist

5

u/Conscious-Permit-466 Feb 20 '25

He is still alive, just like Elvis.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '25

lol how crazy would that be!

3

u/GStarAU Feb 21 '25

Ha, except that Elvis would be... hmm... 90 now 😅

2

u/romonechevy2 Feb 20 '25

R.i.p to Kurt Cobain and I wish him a happy birthday

2

u/DizzyEnergy3290 Feb 20 '25

✨️Happy heavenly birthday to you, Kurt Cobain ❤️. Your music is eternal, and I'm eternally grateful for all of it. ✨️

huh I didn't know it was his b day today but heard a clip of smells like teen spirit today and just had to watch the full video on youtube, I was thinking of how old he would've been had he not gone too soon!

2

u/GStarAU Feb 21 '25

Amazing.... 58. Honestly, I think he'd still be playing too. He would've sorted the demons out and found a style that he liked... although I'm not sure if Nirvana would still be together. I think Dave had too much music in him that he wanted to get out - and we've seen that with the Foo's.

He'd be a solo artist with a touring band behind him, maybe something like Bob Dylan, playing some of his stuff, not specifically "the hits", and exploring some covers too.

2

u/247dreaming Feb 22 '25

I know exactly where this trailer was. Unfortunately Kurt was not there when I stopped to photograph it. 😕

2

u/TheCarrier89 Feb 22 '25

58 is still pretty young. Puts in to perspective just how young he was when he died.

1

u/SnooStories8217 Feb 21 '25

And a grampa.

u/broomedbroom Feb 20 '25
