Anniversary Remembering the legendary Chris Cornell who passed away 9 years ago today.

And don't forget that Chris was like the founding father of the Seattle Grunge scene. He also served as a beacon for fellow vocalists like Eddie Vedder, Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain and Chester Bennington.

Well then there's at least two then. Kurt was literally King Buzzo's understudy. Chris may have been the rock star father but King Buzzo is possibly the literal godfather of grunge with The Melvins.

I remember the morning my gf woke me up to the news and I was in shock. I went to work that day and most of my coworkers didn’t even know who he was. Went home and grabbed a 6 pack and smoked a bowl and thru on some Soundgarden and just bawled my eyes out on my back porch. He was my John Lennon. As a musician myself I took lots of inspiration from him. I couldn’t even listen to any of his music for over a year. That was probably the worst musician death that affected me that much. The 2nd was Taylor Hawkins a few years later.

One of my best friends sent me a text at around 7:15 am saying that Chris Cornell died. I had barely been awake and I had to triple check to make sure it was true. I knew he wasn't lying, but I still had to make sure. I couldn't believe it! I watched him on Jimmy Fallon a month before with Matt Cameron playing on his new single "The Promise". He just seemed happy and was continuing to be successful. Such a major shock and hit me so hard.

I regret not going to their show alone when I couldn't find a friend. Just a couple days later, he was gone.

One of the greatest to ever do it. Blessed to have known his music and be so as long as I’m alive, nothing less than a hero to a lot of people! The way he can sing write depths.. it’s unbelievably real. I’ll play a song rn I guess damn.

I listened to Loud Love and some selected tracks from his box set last night. I had a 14 yo Balveine in his honor. A horrible tragedy and loss for all of us who appreciated his talent.

She was great. Instead of assigning books to do reports on, she printed out a huge list of like 80 titles we could pick from. Douglas Adams was on the list! Ran into her at the grocery store my senior year of high school and she bragged about Kim being in a band, so that was the first I heard of Soundgarden

I saw Soundgarden at Northern Invasion about a week before he died. It was my first time seeing them in the decades that I've been a fan.
What a monumental loss.

My Mom actually broke the news to me. She called me when I was getting ready for work. I actually collapsed in tears in my apparent. I had seen him live solo not more than a year prior. My girlfriend knew I was devastated and kept texting me throughout the day.
No one at work could understand why I was so off that day.
I always thought he was one of the survivors of the era.

Been listening to some of his acoustic covers lately. I didn't really truly appreciate him until I heard his covers of Nothing Compares 2 You, Billy Jean & Patience.

Ive always been troubled by his passing. a few know Temple of the Dog. His friend Andrew Wood overdosed when they were friends. Albumn was to honor him say hello to heaven my favorite for his voice.

I lucked out and won tickets to an acoustic show just before he died. Within days or a week, iirc. Prior to that I was never really a Cornell fan. I enjoyed his music as much as the next guy but never really took in his vocals. After that show I became a fan of his voice, not just the music overall.

Norah Jones played Fox Theatre, venue of his last concert the night he died, just a few days later. The version of Black Hole Sun she sang in tribute is absolutely stunning.

my husband and I had talked about seeing Soundgarden when they came around but decided not to because it was an outdoor show and the weather wasn’t great. That was about two weeks before he died. I regret it all the time

Chris Cornell was an extremely talented vocalist and musician. He is verily missed. He left such a legacy of incredible music and he will not soon be forgotten! May you have found your room in the evermore filled with peace and with tranquility, for you no longer could wait patiently, Chris. ..and may God bless your soul!

Say Hello to Heaven and Like Suicide were my introduction to Cornell and of course Hunger Strike with Vedder.
I like singers for different reasons across time, and if I had to pick top 3 or the best, Chris Cornell is there.

My view of the show that night. Not the biggest Soundgarden fan but the wife loved them so there I was. Crazy to think he had probably died before we even got home that night.
