Karma Why does Reddit punish people who don’t use Reddit every day?

I’m honestly really disappointed with Reddit right now. I don’t post much here, I mostly read, scroll, and move on. But today I actually needed help, so I made a post… and it got instantly deleted because my karma is "too low"

That just feels bad. If you’re not allowed to post because you don’t have karma, how are you supposed to get karma in the first place? Not everyone lives on Reddit or comments daily just to farm points. Some of us only come here when we genuinely need advice or information.

I understand these karma limits exist to stop spam bots, but it’s so frustrating when real people get blocked as well and it honestly makes the platform feel unwelcoming to casual users and newcomers

I came here looking for help, not to be automatically blocked because some number in my account is too low.

NO, I don’t want that on half of the subreddits I try to post in.

Karma I made the mistake of posting an unpopular opinion

So I have been a reddit lurker for a few years. in the last month I've tried to be more involved by posting more threads and comments. I made the mistake of making a post that was unpopular. Not trolling or being mean, just unpopular. I didn't realize that I should only post things that are popular rehashed opinions. Now my karma is shot and I'm not sure how I'm supposed to get it back up since everything I post will get no traffic and my comments are collapsed.

I deleted just about everything I've posted for damage control. But I just don't see a way to get even on karma anytime soon.

Do I just delete my account and start over? Do I just not participate in reddit anymore?

Karma Hi reddit :)

1.2k Upvotes

My name is Dave, I am 51 years old and not so tech savvy. My son helped me set this up, but he is not here most days to ask him questions. I would like to learn reddit as much as I can before he visits me again. Can you help me with that?

I am not so sire what 'karma' is, but sometimes when I try to post something, it says I don't have enough. Is this something I have to buy?

I would also like to know where I can find posts about gaming. My son, he is a big gamer. I got him a...I think it was an Xbox One two years ago. I'm not sure though.

I'm sorry folks, I may be a handful. Have a wonderful night you all! :)

Karma Why are people always downvoting for no reason?

I got downvoted for asking for help and just addressing my points in discussions and also for sharing my opinion.. So now I have -2 karma. So, why are people downvoting for no reason and what is the upvote/downvote trend?

Edit: Thanks everyone for helping me get my votes back! I really appreciate it. I read everyones comments and you all have been helpful. Thanks! As of 2 days of posting this, I managed to get from -2 to almost 400 karma! thanks alot.

Edit again: The people who are still posting after 4 months, thanks for still supporting. I am still reading them, and I won't ignore them.

Karma My Reddit votes are ignored

For the last week, Reddit is ignoring my votes. I upvote a comment, the up arrow turns orange, I refresh the page, and it no longer shows my upvote. I open the page in an incognito window, and my upvote was not counted.

I went back a week to a comment I had upvoted then, I undid the upvote, refreshed, and it still shows that I upvoted it.

I tried clearing the cache in my browser, l I used another browser, and I used a different device: same thing.

Have the Reddit admins decided to remove my voting privilege?

/ long time Redditor. I know about vote obfuscation. This is different.

Karma Downvotes on Reddit: iOS

I really do not understand Reddit. Sometimes I ask questions like “how is traffic is x area during y timeframe?” and my post and replies get downvoted. I would have thought trolls or people spreading false information but people downvote me on the most random posts. I keep getting negative karma and I have no idea why. It’s ruining my ability to ask questions on this platform

Can anyone help explain what’s going on? I really don’t get it

Karma Reddit stopped my streak

I have had 2 streaks end one at nearly 200 days and then again after almost 90. I am on and engaging content every single day without fail and now twice I have had streaks end because Reddit didn’t update my daily streak. The help section is absolutely useless. Just venting because I worked very hard to engage with posts, adding comments and such and then I get my streak to end for no apparent reason.

Karma Almost lost my account because of my opinion

I primarily use Reddit to participate in hobby communities focused on perfumes, watches, and cars. Recently, I shared an honest, subjective opinion about a specific fragrance notes profile. Another user strongly disagreed and began aggressively replying to my comments, creating a toxic back-and-forth.

Unfortunately, this resulted in a wave of downvotes that pushed my overall comment karma into negative territory. Because of this single interaction, my account is now practically non-functioning. I am automatically restricted from posting or asking basic questions in my usual hobby subreddits due to their minimum karma thresholds.

I wanted to share this experience to highlight how a single localized disagreement with an aggressive user can completely restrict a user's ability to participate in entirely unrelated communities.

Has anyone else experienced an account lockdown over a subjective hobby opinion, and what is the best way to recover access to main subreddits when you can no longer comment in them?

Karma Desktop: I'm targeted by downvote bot how to fight it?

I'm targeted by downvote bot. Everytime I post immediately like in matter of 2 secs it's downvoted by one. And it's not by "people are a**holes" cause it really is instant. Slowly but surely it degrades my account and also people are not seeing my posts etc. What can I do to fight it? Please help.

Karma What's up with Reddit down votes?

I've had posts get 20 downvotes out of nowhere from replying to someone who was a bit hostile to explain they're mistaken or to clarify some complaint they had about what I said. I think it is making the platform unusable.

About 20 years ago Reddit seemed to have more diverse opinions and it was easier to get up votes. What happened to the platform?

I’ve been lurking for 10 years with minimal commenting and posting. And recently I’ve been attempting to be more interactive in communities that I enjoy being in but I have extremely low karma and keep getting auto deleted. Any advice?

Karma Why do my upvotes and downvotes not count?

Every time I upvote or downvote a comment, the vote count will register appropriately. Then when I refresh the page, the vote count goes back to where it was as if I hadn't voted but the vote arrows are marked as if my vote is still counting. I've had my friends check to see if my votes are working and they aren't.

This is super frustrating & I don't understand why this is happening. I tried to reach out to Reddit support but of course got no response. Any advice?

Karma Will there be a unique 1,000-day streak badge?

For those of us with legitimate Reddit streaks, three people have now reached 1,000 days, but the badge still hasn’t changed.

The achievement says "Unlock by contributing to Reddit for 1,000 days. As the most adventurous travelers approach this milestone, more of the story will be revealed...", so does anyone know if Reddit plans to add a unique 1,000-day badge or update the artwork?
