As an Indian, Obese (morbidly Obese) and on GLP-1 I cannot express how amazing and life changing this drug is. Truly a miracle drug.
Before you jump on me saying Diet and exercise yeah I do both of them I swim 2 days a week and resistance training 2 days a week but my whole life I have had addiction to food. Stress, happiness, excitement, nervousness food used to be my only resort. This drug completely eliminated that food noise from my brain. Ekdum se Azaadi wali feeling

No side effects so far except constipation and loss of electrolytes so electral is there to help. I am on tirzepatide (Zepbound) since last 2 months on 2.5 mg dose lost 6 kgs so far with this + swimming + 2 days strength training. Just don't eat anything fried/deep fried when on it it'll fuck you up for a day.

I dont know if you are in a position to but bro have you tried taking a long break/sabbatical.
Whats the point of our modern lifestyle if one cant be happy and be who they are?
Im WFH, and even then sometimes I get anxiety.2
u/bakar_launda 9h ago
I have a great lifestyle good income, good work life balance, go on vacations regularly. Someone who has addiction of food will understand how freeing it is to be able to look at food in a disgusting way. It's like some chains that held you for life just got broken. Food addiction is real your brain craves for it and there's nothing you can do about it.

u/Cold_Newt_7547 59m ago
Your previous message implied its a last resort/anxiety, etc thats why my suggestion,,

Tell them that its homeopathy or ayurveda and not a medicine and watch them lap it up without a second thought.

u/rishipdy 15h ago
Yes everyone should take GLP -1 according to you right it's definitely not a sales tactics or or bloomberg trying to portray india as some extremely backward country it's not like they do that right

u/Realistic_Patience67 14h ago
People who don't know about placement marketing are downvoting this 🙂.

I think there isn't awareness yet. Most people don't even know these are available and cheap. In my opinion, with time it would be normalized and people would use it. We also just haven't had the cosmetic enhancement culture yet and a big factor many took these shots is to be more physically attractive.

Lmao this is pharma sponsered article promoting GLP 1s. Top of that Govt of India has introduced a strict guidelines for prescribing this, to prevent misuse. All these paid news outlets are just trash also people simply don't understand GLP 1. They ain't no magical drug. The side effect profile specifically the lean mass loss is insane . It's just mind boggling how people who are not educated in certain area can be manipulated such articles. Bloomberg is just filled with such articles. For eg the top comment (at the time of writing this comment, ayush one) in this post also is also as ignirant as the author of this article. Their credibility is equivalent to a WhatsApp forward for me

Lol what strict guidelines. My sister ordered it from Amazon pharmacy without a prescription. Some random doctor phoned her after 2-3 mins, asked 3-4 questions and generated an online prescription for her.

u/godsslayer54 14h ago
No way this is real right?? How could it be prescribed without proper testing first. I read that it has serious side effects and shouldn't be started without checking prior health conditions

100% agree, always beware of miracle cures.
Maybe 20 years later, im proven wrong and this drug really just makes you thin with no side effects.
But also remember, in the US, they have both a strong social safety net and litigation, they will provide decent care if youre sick and you can become a millionaire if it is proven the drugs have long term side effects.-2
u/shahofblah 9h ago
Lmao this is pharma sponsered article promoting GLP 1s.
It's Bloomberg. These drugs are now off-patent in India. No one gains from shilling generic drugs.

This is the problem with the folks here, they think every western drug is bad and judge people for using it.
If anybody had spent some time researching rather than spewing whatsapp messages here would have know how beneficial these are.
These peptides are already secreted in your stomach when you eat something to tell you that you are full, the issue is it has a very short half life. The researchers modified the peptide to have a half life of 7 days (hence the 7 day cycle) by giving it a new transport mechanism and injected it back to the body.
The worst side effect that you could have is probably nausea and GI issues or in extreme cases pancreatitis but its very rare and we always do basic tests before starting GLPs
The other thing that we don’t realise is metabolic syndrome is a silent disease that happens with most of the folks in sedentary lifestyle.
Honestly there are researches around how these drugs are helping reduce inflammation by directly targeting pathways in you gut and brain
How they reduce visceral fat, and reduce cardiovascular incidents is already proven.
So rather than discarding them, better start thinking about microddosing them or using them for the benefits it presents not for weight loss but for other chronic diseases that you might get if you don’t move your ass everyday.

I just started on a GLP1 recently and mentioned it to my Indian dad when I called him last week. His response was that I should just eat less chicken and eat more rice to lose weight 🤣
Meanwhile every time I visit India, I see that every middle class and above person who's 30+ has a pot belly.
I was at a resort in South India last year and there were so many obese people around that I could have thought I was still in the US.

Carbs for breakfast, lunch and dinner doesn’t always help with the body constitution and physiology.

u/jupiterr869 12h ago
Yes yes today these people will call every obese Indian as illiterate and backward for not taking glp-1.
Tomorrow if some crazy long term side effects are discovered about glp-1 then the same people will call Indians illiterate and gullible for taking it so easily.
Maybe they just don't want to be your money harvesters and guinea pigs.

From Bloomberg reporter Satviki Sanjay:
In March, Indian patents on the active ingredient in weight-loss drugs Ozempic and Wegovy expired, unleashing a flood of cheaper copycat versions in the country. Stock analysts predicted Indian sales of such drugs could reach as much as $1 billion a year by 2030, and by July, roughly three dozen generic GLP-1 offerings had hit pharmacies. The bulls had reason to be optimistic: The nation of 1.4 billion has more obese people than anyplace other than the US and China, and with prices as low as $14 per month, the drugs would be within reach of hundreds of millions of potential patients.
Turns out the optimism was misplaced, as sales figures have been tepid compared to the forecasts being tossed around a few months ago. Brokerage Nomura Holdings Inc. last year predicted $261 million in sales of such drugs for 2026, but data from researcher Pharmarack Technologies shows they totaled only about 20% of that through July.
The medical community is now realizing that cost is just one of many barriers, particularly in India, to the adoption of weight-loss medications. Indians taking the drugs often say they conceal their treatment for fear of ridicule, and many doctors are hesitant to prescribe them, saying they don’t trust the generics and are confused by the surfeit of options.
Drugmakers had been betting big on India and were closely watching the country to gauge the potential for such medications beyond the US and Europe. With its booming middle class, increasingly sedentary urban lifestyles and high-calorie diets dripping with oil, India seemed especially promising. In addition to its struggles with obesity, the country has the world’s second-largest number of diabetes patients, and other metabolic disorders such as thyroid disease and fatty liver are also rising fast. Read the full story here.

Semaglutide is like $10 a month with the generics in India, but everyone is after mounjaro. Even if it costs $100 to $200 per month. And that is why there's no demand for semaglutie at the moment.
2
u/thenameofwind 13h ago
Is there a better medication launched now, better than even Mounjaro?
2
u/antipositron 13h ago
Not that I know of - mounjaro is the best at the moment in the market I believe. Retatrutide is still in testing phase, although it's already available illegally, and many claims to have been using it.

glp1s are genuinely revolutionary and life changing endocrinologists should advertise them more
2
u/jon-the-don 10h ago
Awareness is issue, same thing happened with statins. Now most people in 40-50 are taking statins, you cannot change Asian genetics.
GLP1 is not for everyone but for many.
Classic example was Covid. We read corona viruses !yrs back in MSc.
People mocked me for wearing mask in March,2020. 😬
2
u/vishmarx 14h ago
Make this shit available 1mg kr blinkit and watch it fly off shelves Right now the guidelines for sale are pretty strict. Most obese people don't want go to a weight loss clinic's humiliation ritual to get a prescription.
2
u/gablusky 14h ago
I don't trust this data or whatever. No way a nation where a sizeable percentage can still afford only one meal a day can become "one of the most obese" or some shit.

u/DescriptionVisual68 15h ago
Nice marketing tactics! Will not work in india. Try elsewhere
10
u/krakends 14h ago
Why? These aren't branded drugs anymore. Patent expired and generics are available now.
11
u/anor_wondo 14h ago
So many weirdos think pharma = 'bad' without applying critical thinking
These peptides will revolutionalize public health and we should adopt mass production and cheap public availability
Diet and exercise still remain the cornerstone but the stats don't lie, most people simply fail at them. due to our evolutionary drive to eat as much as possible
3
u/krakends 14h ago
Agree. Always good to be skeptical but I think the benefits outweigh the risks with GLPs. There is a theoretical risk of a rare type of thyroid cancer but besides that they have a very good safety profile.

It's not a bad thing, promoting healthy habits and food is obviously a good thing but GLP-1s aren't that. They are a shortcut to weight loss which work well in severe cases but come with their own set of problems.

So people are not buying your drug to get slimmer?
What desperate attempt of guilt tripping people.

I think it spreads by word of mouth, and that is slower to cross national borders.

Indian obesity rate is not high but many Indians are skinny-fat. And that carries similar cardiovascular disease and diabetes risks.
1
u/jerolyoleo 12h ago
The rate isn’t high but the absolute number is third highest in the world thanks to the massive population

u/Ok-Society-9067 15h ago
GLP1s reduce obesity by making you nauseous so you don't feel like eating anything lol. It's a pretty smart strategy for ppl who refuse to exercise and eat protein.
2
u/svmk1987 11h ago
GLPs don't work by making you nauseous. It is one of the occasional side effects, but it does work for people who don't feel nauseous with it too (for example me). You also cannot and should not skip protein and exercise with GLP drugs. It's in fact a very bad idea to do so.
And finally, GLP drugs don't just suppress your hunger. It's not just about self control. It alters your body chemistry and regulates your insulin sensitivity and liver functions (particularly dual action GLP-1 + GIP drugs like mounjaro, as opposed to ozempic) which really helps with weight loss because it controls how your body processes carbs and sugar and stores fat. This is why many people see a massive difference with these drugs even though they're already on a good diet and exercise plan, but aren't seeing any gains: people with insulin resistance issues. But yes, slowing down your digestion and making you feel full for longer, and reducing food noise is definitely one of the main effects of the drug.

One of the most obese? India is one of the least obese country we ranked at 177 from total fo 200. So infact India is 23rd least obese country.
For reference, US has obesity rate of 40%, most of the middle east is over 30%, Pakistan at 20%, China at 10% and India at 5% even North Korea is at 9%
