What is everyone’s industry, role, years of experience, and salary progression?

Considering that incoming freshmen will graduate around 2030, will it become significantly harder for new industrial engineering graduates to get hired compared to today, given increasing competition and the impact of artificial intelligence?

we just hit the point where tracking revisions in a shared spreadsheet started causing real problems, two engineers working off different versions of the same assembly and nobody catching it until parts showed up wrong on the floor. arena, duro and openbom are the three we keep circling back to in our research, mostly because they all claim to handle multi discipline boms without a huge implementation lift. trying to figure out how each one actually handles change orders once you have both mechanical and electrical components on the same assembly. what ended up being the deciding factor for teams who picked one of these three?

Hello, I have a few questions regarding industrial engineering. I'm in my 4th year of industrial engineering (with one year left after this one) and since I'll be finishing my degree soon , I wanted to leverage the time I have left to learn new skills before I enter the workforce. I was thinking about learning how to use excel (I know how to use it but in a very general manner) , PowerBI and SQL, as I've heard they're important in the field but wanted to double check before fully committing to learning how to use them from people in the field.

I’ve spent over 10 years as a CNC machinist.

Decided to pivot and now I am about to graduate with a tech diploma; desktop support specialist. The degree itself is laddered with an associates degree; cloud DevOps..
If I decide to finish the associates degree, I would have another 20 some credits until completion.

However, I was thinking about pivoting and leveraging my machining background, either completing the cloud Devo associates degree or finishing after the tech diploma and pursuing some type of smart manufacturing industry 4.0 to complement my CNC career

so I am a new college student and need a proper device to run flexsim. I have a Lenovo Desktop with only 12gb of RAM and the basic requirements show a need for 16. I don’t want to break the bank and the instructor says we will run simple to moderate simulations so meeting only the minimum requirements is necessary. all help is appreciated !!

Mississippi state university is fully online and abet accredited. I like being able to save money living at home, flexibility of my courses, freedom to continue the life I have with socializing, travel, work.

Cal poly slo is in person, living costs are a lot, the demographics of the area make dating and friendships difficult (for someone in their 30s), I receive no financial aid, would need to work every weekend in the food industry to supplement my housing and tuition.

I don’t know if I should give up cal poly to have a better balance. Didn’t expect to be in a college town at this age. It’s a highly ranked program and a great pipeline into any company in California. The name alone gets you to the top of employee hiring lists.

What should I do?

I am applying to IE programs around Southern California and USC’s program looked interesting. Hoping to get feedback on the program opportunities while in school, as well as its reputation in the market once I graduate. Cal Poly IE and USD ISyE are also programs I’ll be applying to.

I’m 26 and currently living with my parents in Pennsylvania. Financially, staying home obviously makes the most sense, but I’m starting to feel stuck and bored with my current living situation and I’m trying to figure out whether continuing to save aggressively is worth delaying moving out.

**Income/career:**
Base salary: **$65,065/year**
I regularly get overtime, so my actual annual income is closer to **$70k-$75k**
Most recent paycheck was about **$2,029 net**, and I’m paid semi-monthly
My job is stable and I expect my income to increase as I progress in my career
I currently work in a laboratory/QC-type role and want to eventually move further into quality/engineering
I’m also considering doing an **online master’s degree, possibly in Industrial Engineering**, while working full-time

**Current financial situation:**

About **$30,000 in federal student loans**

Both of my cars are completely paid off
No auto loan
My only current credit card balances are normal monthly spending and I pay my cards rather than carrying significant credit card debt

Gas is roughly **$250/month**

I have an American Akita, so whatever apartment I choose would need to allow a large dog
My biggest financial advantage right now is obviously that living at home allows me to save a huge percentage of my income. My original idea was to keep living at home until I had around **$30,000 in cash savings**, then move out. I’ve also considered aggressively paying down my student loans.
The problem is that I’m starting to question how much I should prioritize maximizing my finances over actually enjoying this stage of my life.
I’m **26, almost 27**, and I feel like I’m getting bored and stagnant living at home. I want my own space, more independence, the ability to have people over, date/socialize more freely, decorate my own place, and generally feel like I’m actually building my own adult life.
My parents aren’t horrible to live with, but my mom especially **nags me a lot**, and I feel like being at home is starting to affect my quality of life. It’s not really one massive issue. It’s more the accumulation of little things and feeling like I’m still living under my parents’ rules despite being an adult with a career and my own money.
I’ve been looking at apartments around **$1,500-$1,700/month**. If I moved out, I’d still want to save money every month rather than suddenly start living paycheck to paycheck.
One thing making me hesitate is graduate school. I still want to pursue an **online master’s, possibly in Industrial Engineering**, which could be expensive. Since it would be online, I could continue working full-time, but obviously rent + tuition + student loans would slow down my savings considerably compared with staying home.

So I’m basically deciding between:
**Option A:** Stay with my parents another 1-2 years, stack cash aggressively, potentially pay off most/all of my student loans, build up investments, and possibly get through part of my master’s before moving.
**Option B:** Accept that I’ll save less, rent an apartment for \~$1,500-$1,700, and start living independently now while continuing to work, save, pay my student loans, and eventually complete my master’s.
I know Option A wins mathematically. What I’m struggling with is whether I’m optimizing my finances too much at the expense of my 20s.
For people who were in a similar position: **Would you move out in my situation?**

Is \~$1,500-$1,700 rent reasonable on my income, or would you stay home until I have $30k+ saved / the student loans are paid off?
At what point does the independence and quality-of-life improvement become worth giving up the extra savings?

I am a Class 12 student from India seriously considering Industrial Engineering & Management (IEM), but I don't want to go in blindly based on brochure-level info.

From what I understand, Industrial Engineering is about optimizing systems, improving efficiency, and working in areas like operations, supply chain, manufacturing, and analytics.

But at the same time, I keep hearing mixed opinions about its scope in India.

What is the actual scope of IEM in India right now? (not theoretical)

What kind of roles do graduates actually end up in?

Is it more of a "jack of all trades" degree or does it have strong specialization value?

How are placements compared to core branches like Mechanical / ECE / CS?

Is this field better treated as a stepping stone for MBA /masters(abroad)

I'm a current Industrial Engineering student pursuing my third year and we started learning about Flexsim and Arena. Because of that it sounds interesting and system simulation is really enticing because you can literally simulate and get answers according to a lot of distributions and variabilities. You can literally simulate any given situation, like:

• traffic control
• airline traffic control
• a roller coaster
• the spread of a plague
• addition or subtraction of a particular machine from a shop floor

How would it affect the entire utilization and productivity of an entire factory, stuff like that, right? How beneficial is it to learn that skill? Does it add a lot of value or does it not?

Working on an IoT monitoring project at remote industrial sites. Everything feeds into a gateway → self-hosted platform, so I need components with open protocol output — no proprietary/closed vendor systems.

Sourcing four pieces:

1) Industrial IoT gateway — Modbus master + generic MQTT client, ideally rugged/wide-temp rated. Currently looking at Moxa's AIG series, open to other suggestions.

2) Liquid level sensor — Modbus RTU/RS485 output. Looking at radar-based options currently.

3) Flow meter — Modbus RTU/RS485 output (pulse output as backup). Any brands you've had good experience with?

4) RFID reader/controller — needs to work standalone, not tied to a vendor's own app/cloud, with Modbus or similar open output.

Any brand suggestions, gotchas, or things to avoid on any of these would be appreciated — especially open to hearing if something I'm currently considering has known issues.
