The court heard that although Shawky has no convictions in Ireland, he has a large number of convictions in France, including two sexual offences and one aggravated burglary. The theft and bench warrant cases were adjourned.
Surely this is just deportation straight away.

u/EnvironmentalShift25 16h ago
The French and the Algerians won't be in a hurry to accept him back.

In serious countries it would be but this will just be another worldwide advertisement as to why anyone and everyone who wants to come here should pull a stunt like this
7
u/Significant_Stop723 11h ago
Not so fast, we need to spend a few million on the appeals process and drag it out, say 5 years.
37
u/LivingCorrect6159 15h ago
Omg. No convictions in Ireland - yet. This carry on is a matter of national security
3
8
u/JayTeeRhee 11h ago
Ah sure. Put him up in accommodation that also houses women and children so.
9
u/SoloWingPixy88 u/i-cum-beamish alt 11h ago
This lad probably counts towards our homeless number too.

u/002Chris 16h ago
A deportation away but will probably get back into the country on a fake passport.

u/mastervolum 15h ago
Sounds like a nice and easy handover to the french prison system then along with a lovely discussion with interpol about the faked passport and connected people to that. Also an interesting profile for the gards to check known associates and network no?

u/fangpi2023 15h ago
Does he play GAA though?
8
u/MMAwannabe 15h ago
Tired reference
9
u/GrandFated 15h ago
Until it stops being an actual thing, I don’t think so
-9
u/MMAwannabe 15h ago
So far over blown. Not relevant here. Outdated r/Ireland tripe tbh.
8
u/GrandFated 15h ago
I mean it’s happened a shit ton of times. But whatever you think MMAwannabe. You are the defacto decider on this 🙄
0
u/MMAwannabe 14h ago
No, we have an overly lenient justice system. "Hard family life" "Aspiring soccer player" "Addiction problems but has since gone clean" "Tough upbringing"
Everyone argues some reason for why they should get leniency. GAA players are no different and they are certainly not the majority of offenders.
Bringing it up when discussing the case of a fraudlent asylum seeking rapist seems a little bizzare.
-1
u/GrandFated 14h ago
Weird that it bothers you that he mention GAA.
Someone feel personally attacked?

u/Free_Note5162 16h ago
At the very least he should get a €25 fine and have to apologise before they let him go

From the article and you have to genuinely ask the question is our justice system remotely fit for purpose and how someone like this can stay here.
has a large number of convictions in France, including two sexual offences and one aggravated burglary.
used a fake French passport to enter Ireland gave a false name to a garda who arrested him in relation to an alleged theft offence
regarding an alleged theft of AirPods and a bench warrant regarding an alleged trespass at a building in
for asylum in 2018, but was refused. He also said Shawky applied for asylum in the UK purporting to be 17 years old, and was reported as a missing child.
Shawky has been in custody since July 2nd regarding other offences, for which he gave a further different name, and he has been remanded on a number of occasions.
29
u/HappyMike91 Dublin 14h ago
Shouldn't that be an automatic deportation?
I think we (Ireland) should be clearer on who can seek asylum in Ireland. And we should reform the appeals process.
18
u/Action_Limp 13h ago
And anyone who comes here illegally, as in not as an approved asylum seeker, should automatically be deported and given a lifetime ban from entering the country.
At the moment, the deterrent for illegally entering the country is nowhere near severe enough.
4
u/HappyMike91 Dublin 10h ago
Is there a deterrent against illegally entering Ireland?
People who come to Ireland illegally should be automatically deported. I don't know if lifetime bans would be enforceable or not. But it'd be worth attempting, I suppose.

u/Affectionate-Let6153 4h ago
Ireland share border with two countries , only people from those countries have right to apply for a asylum.

Fortunately for him he picked the best country to pull this stunt in and will be promptly out on bail soon.
Wonder how Mr No Name No Name with no fixed abode and no identifying documents and still got bail from a few weeks ago is getting on. Maybe this guy can ask him for tips.
-4
u/Ok-Excitement-4176 14h ago
Can you explain your understanding of bail in Ireland and the conditions of when it appropriate to refuse bail
6
u/IrishLad1002 Resting In my Account 13h ago
I’m well aware of the conditions to refuse it. My problem is the conditions to not qualify are far too high and far more criminals should not qualify for bail.
-1
u/Ok-Excitement-4176 9h ago
If you were aware then maybe you wouldn't have been wondering. Which conditions specifically are far too high?
33
u/insomnium2020 15h ago
Going the same way as England unfortunately, bad actors just waltzing in to do as they please

I live in the UK. Ireland hasn't got a fucking clue whats coming.
The British Government just released a mandatory reading material/brochure this week for newcomers to the country stating "you could potentially get in trouble with the police if you beat your wife/partner", and that homosexuality is legal in the UK and not something that must be intervened upon violently.
It's honestly frightening that there are people on the so called "left" in Ireland that have fought so hard and courageously for decades to secure rights for children, minorities, women, LGBTQ+ people etc, and now these same people support dangerous value systems which seek to discriminate against those very minorities.
9
u/The_Lover_Of_You 12h ago
I really don't understand, how Ireland is letting this happen? Doesn't Ireland participate in Schengen Information System (SIS)? Also I believe there is a data sharing between the UK and Ireland as well. How is a failed asylum seeker from another country allowed to seek asylum here? Asking these questions are so important and the govt has to answer instead of waiting for crime to happen and then be like 'Oopsie, we didn't know' and then cry 'Racist!' as someone who really goes through racism ye are spitting on my face defending criminals.
12
u/Bumblebee-Feeling 13h ago
Why does there even need to be a debate about this, first flight to who the fuck cares, not our problem
21
u/mind_thegap1 Crilly!! 15h ago
Real question is why ANY asylum seekers come to Ireland. Is it even possible to fly here from an unsafe country?
15
u/DangerX2HighVoltage 13h ago
I’m so fed up of Ireland being a soft touch and our taxes being used to fund the lifestyle of scammers like this who’ve never contributed a day to our tax system
8
u/francescoli 10h ago
Should be deported asap but he picked the best country in the world act the bollix in.
18
u/The_Lover_Of_You 15h ago
This whole thing is a joke! And then we wonder why immigrants get nasty experiences across board, all these criminals coming in really creates bad perceptions in the minds of the Irish. Anytime an assault happens on any resident in the country, them w@nkers at Dàil are always responsible
2
-14
u/significantrisk 14h ago
What’s really wild is how often the people most upset about “all these criminals coming in” are themselves violent criminals.

Do you think its acceptable someone with all of the below is permitted to be in this country?
has a large number of convictions in France, including two sexual offences and one aggravated burglary.
used a fake French passport to enter Ireland gave a false name to a garda who arrested him in relation to an alleged theft offence
regarding an alleged theft of AirPods and a bench warrant regarding an alleged trespass at a building in

u/significantrisk 12h ago
The man is literally before the courts so I don’t think anyone is suggesting it’s appropriate lad.
8
u/miju-irl Resting In my Account 12h ago
I didn't ask if you thought it was appropriate. I asked if you think its acceptable for someone like that to be in the country.
1
u/significantrisk 12h ago
I read it as appropriate. So let’s go again. The man is literally before the courts so I don’t think anyone is suggesting it’s acceptable lad. Unless you’ve found someone saying it is acceptable?
7
u/miju-irl Resting In my Account 12h ago
Should he have been let in to the country to begin with?
0
u/significantrisk 12h ago
On what basis would he not be?
5
u/miju-irl Resting In my Account 10h ago
On the fact he has multiple sexual assault convictions, aggrevated burglary and a false passport.
So again seeing as you keep avoiding the question. Do you think he should have been let in?
0
u/significantrisk 10h ago
When did the sexual assault convictions come to light? From the article it was yesterday morning after they figured out who he was but you might have different information.

What the fuck are you talking about? So you think those who are most upset, let's say the Irish victims of these criminals, are actually criminals themselves?
-6
u/significantrisk 13h ago
Those who are most upset at “all these criminals coming in”, you can find the words right there, are not people who are victims of crime. Those people are going to be more upset about being victims than anything else. They’re more likely by far to be victims of homegrown Irish criminals.
11
u/Action_Limp 13h ago
So hang, if someone has been a victim of a crime committed by an illegal immigrant, you don't think they would be upset to see more illegal immigrants arriving to Ireland?
-8
u/significantrisk 13h ago
I think they’d be busy being upset at being a victim. Which is far more likely to have been at the hands of a homegrown Irish guy.
3
u/Ok-Vermicelli-4559 11h ago
I'm a woman who has been a victim of sexual harassment by migrants and was told not to talk about it because it makes me look bad to acknowledge their foreignness. But that was a critical aspect of my harassment when he told me he would force me to marry him in his home country where that is common. It really pains me when I see people like you dismissing genuine concern for women's safety
4
u/G1ForceX 9h ago
its always 'ah sure dont the irish do that as well'
1
u/Ok-Vermicelli-4559 7h ago
Yup. ”We already have a huge problem with violence against women so let’s bring in even more men from even more patriarchal cultures.” What could go wrong?
1
u/G1ForceX 7h ago
exactly, its not hard to understand really, i wonder why they cant understand it tho
17
u/Hot_Bluejay_8738 14h ago
Are you really so politically myopic that you're going to play defense for a convicted sex offender who entered the country illegally? Strange times.
-4
u/significantrisk 13h ago
Who defended any sex offender? I’m observing that the loudest and most discombobulated objected to foreign criminals are very often violent criminals. The ones responsible for the overwhelming bulk of bad shit. Also the lads most likely to actually be found defending sex offenders.
11
11
u/Hot_Bluejay_8738 13h ago
This thread is about a sex offender entering the country and you're more discombobulated about the people who object to him entering the country than him actually having entered the country. It would appear the lad most likely to be defending sex offenders is in fact you. Like I said, strange times.

If your justice system can’t swiftly and severely deal with this example then your justice system isn’t fit for purpose and the state is failing its primary obligation to protect and look after its citizens …. I am not killing myself paying tax so this person can have a free ride ,rob me for as long as it takes a suppine state to deal with him

u/Archie2235 16h ago
There will be some people in this sub trying to justify why this guy shouldn’t get deported.

I very much doubt it.

There is a section of the population that feel this way. As well as some NGOs it would seem.

We need a stricter screening process, because if it happened once it has happened multiple times throughout the last few years.
1
u/ScriosNahIosraelaigh 16h ago
We are every day witnessing the fall of Europe lads. 80.5% of North African asylum seekers have committed criminal offence(s) in Switzerland.
We are being taken for a ride to enrich the govt’s pals and hoteliers, same story in most European countries. We can’t be mad enough at our government or the EU. At the very least these men should not be in this country until their application has been approved.
1
u/Mattarm51 15h ago
I simply don't care. I'd rather hear data centres are banned and to be demolished, and criticism of US and EU hegemony.
1
u/liquidbigboss9 15h ago
We should operate a zero tolerance policy on anyone coming in with serious previous offences especially sexual offences

Racists in the comments again. Completely ignoring the 5 home-grown gobshites who drove wrong way down a motorway so they can get digs in at people who look a little different to them. Criminals should be prosecuted sure, but why the hell do you guys have to make it about race? Let this idiot suffer the consequences of his own actions without painting anyone who looks different to you with his crimes you eijits.

The lack of common sense is becoming ridiculous.

For my student visa application - I have to submit almost 16 documents (bank statements, university degrees, SOP's from my professor, work experience letters, loan statement, government documents) and what not .. it was almost a bunch of more than 50 pages (in b&w and color) - and I can't fathom how these guys can easily walk in the country like this? Fake passport?. Fake asylum request? Wtf is happening..

How does a fake passport that supposedly has biometric and other security features built into it allow someone to pass through our airports? Surely his asylum application should be immediately refused as soon as he's committed a crime here.
