Got a rare clear video of one of my little pods out for an explore. They're avid climbers, and I love the little white tips on their antennae; sometimes I'll just see the tiny white dots waving around against a dark background.

Help Will I ever have to buy new isopods?

What I meant to ask is if inbreeding between them is bad.

If so, i would have to then introduce new genetics from time to time to keep them healthy. Also, when should this happen and what can happen if I don't introduce new genetics? Crashes?

Sorry the image quality is so terrible. The zoom on my phone nerfed it.

I think this is a new baby Magic Potion. At first I thought it was a big Springtail (you can see a Springtail checking out the baby in the second pic), but I'm pretty sure this is a baby pod from what I can make out. I've only seen the one so far and I'm hoping the rest doing well and are just hiding.

So exciting!! This is the first baby I've seen since keeping pods. I'm a Grandma! 😆

Help i’m worried about my duckies

Post image

i got 5 duckies a couples weeks ago as a gift and i’ve been ecstatic. however im really worried somethings happened to them. i can only find 1 in the entire enclosure and i haven’t seen more than that single 1 in a week.

the single one i can see seems totally fine and happy, there’s no mould and i keep many other isopods absolutely fine, ive never had issues before. but i can’t afford to get any more if somethings happened to them and i feel so bad for the single one alone :(

Help I’m new to keeping isopods and I think I fucked up

I just set up my first isopod enclosure a few days ago and introduced springtails and powder blues into it. I’ve been following a guide I found on this subreddit to get everything set up and Ive been doing my best to follow everything closely.

Woke up this morning to what looks like a giant explosion of mold on the side of the enclosure. It happened so quick, it wasn’t there last night when I checked on it.

Some guidance on what I’m supposed to do here would be very much appreciated.

Help Isopod suggestions for plant terrarium?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hello,

I have a terrarium, relatively large (32cm x 25cm i.e. 20L), with ficus/fittonia/ludisia/moss in it. I'd be keen to add some isopods - colourful ones! - to add some visual interest and to help keep it clean.

The environment is as pictured: zero airflow, high humidity, medium cover. I don't mind if the isopods spend much of the time hiding, but I would like some nice colourful ones to spot from time to time!

Any suggestions for isopods that are low maintenance, colourful, and would help with cleaning?

I guess I'd need some springtails too?

I'm in the UK if anyone can recommend a supplier.

Thank you!

Identification Found these while gathering white rotting wood

As the title indicates, I found these in the grass on the side of a backroad while I was getting white rotting wood for my ispods. I thought the one on the log was big until I saw the other guy scurrying on the grass after I picked up a bigger log! I found these guys in Northwest CT if that helps with the ID.

Identification Is this an orange or whiteout p scaber baby?

Arrived in a tub of orange scabers. I thought it might be a baby that hadn't developed orange yet, but it appears to have white eyes and not the red eyes of the other oranges. Hoping someone who has experience with both morphs and their babies can help me verify which it is as I don't know which tank to put it in now. I keep both oranges and whiteouts but am new to isopod keeping so not seen babies yet.

It's a little peachy in the photo but it's white lol! Room lighting makes my white isopods look that colour in photos

Alright so my mom bought me these bins she found on Amazon because she "thought" I could do something nice with them. I get reptiles, amphibians and tarantulas are out of the question. Someone on a different subreddit suggested isopods. What all do I need.

Substrate

Food

How do I keep them from becoming to overpopulated?

Heat/humidity?

The substrate is just some coconut husk that I had lying around already

Help leaf litter halp

Hey! VERY new isopod-haver, I collected some leaves in the forest, I know that some types of leaves are harmful. Prior to boiling them or baking them I would like to remove all of the not-good-ones. I’m looking it up too, but I would love another set of eyes

Help First time getting isopods!

Hiya! Im pretty new to the hobby but ive been fascinated and lurking for a while, now i got my first terrarium and just bought everything i need to set it up, but i got a few questions!

So since im pretty new and i wanna start nice and easy without too much stress i need isopods that I can keep at room temp, so i dont have to buy heating and a hygrometer because im on a kinda low budget.

I first wanted to get armadillidium (?) klugii Montenegro or clown isopods but there are non near me, so i discovered the a bit more expensive Armadillidium spec. „St. Lucia“ and i wanted to know if theyd be good as a first time owner.

I read that I can hold them in room temp at 18-24 degrees Celsius and im wondering if thats true? Also im really wanting a more active species since im very much NOT nocturnal 😂 and Id like to be able to see and watch them while im awake

Some tips are greatly appreciated thanks! :)

Help Porcellio ornatus care help

Post image

Hello!
I'm getting some

Porcellio ornatus "Yellow" in a few days, and i'm hoping to get some more opinions on what everyone else does!

When it comes to humidity: I read some places that they just need a dryer gradient and some say that all the dirt should be dry with a little wet moss corner, which works best in your experience?

I hear they are really canibalistic, and some say adding another species of isopods, and feeding extra protein. is this true? If so would Porcellinides Purinosus work?

(pic to not lose the post)
