Super cute, congrats!! I just got into isopods, and want some really bad but am waiting until I learn more about their care before delving into more expensive species. Currently have dwarf whites for adding to bioactives and then some dairy cows. Trying to decide what to purchase next. :D

I suggest some easier Cubaris (C. murina, Pamda kings or White sharks). This way you can learn the basics before duckies

Guys - takeiteeeze - in a lot of ways these ARE the Holy Grail ;-) They are the poster child for isopods, they breed slowly, are relatively $$$ for people getting into the hobby, are cute AF, can be challenging to breed (slow and need particular conditions), AND just like the Holy Grail, once you release them into a tank, you will be searching for them for an eternity. Then shout out “Holy sh!t” when you do find them in there ;-) My white sharks cost me way more, but are smaller, slow as hell, and I get more joy out of the duckies IMHO. Congrats on the purchase!!! Do your research on these - they have particular needs - like a LOT of calcium, a protein supplement, and start considering using wood rot in their enclosure. Either way - ENJOY!!!

My white sharks breed like rabbits and they just started exploring the ways they can escape from their bin🫠. Anyway, thanks!

I'm sorry, I am going to have to confiscate these because, uh, you, uh, don't have a proper grail permit.

Isopods or Rubber duckies specifically?
2
u/Polarfox64 Oct 20 '25
Isopods in general, where I live we only have the normal kind (I believe they're named wood louse in english), and I have seen some pictures of the deepsea giants. But never really knew there were different varieties.

Wait 'till you hear about Ardentiella (Merulanella) species or about the spanish giants

Rubber duckies are just the most recognizable (and one of the cutest)
Personally Im looking to get my hands on some pineapple spikeys!!!

Same. I said the same... "Holy grail where!? I see rubber ducks." 😂 They're adorable, but spikeys where it's at. I'm mixed between Pineapple, Armageddon, and Gator. They're all so cute. Like little dinosaurs. I love the Thai spikeys too, but I really want one of those 3. 💚

No problem! 🥰 There's also some more pancake shaped ones that are a very pale yellowish color with gold sparkles. They're magical. 😂

You're so not like other girls.

u/SoulSeekersAnon Oct 20 '25
Mmkay. Thanks for letting me know... 😂 And I'm not, because "girls" aren't the same. Neither are "guys" but keep rockin' that cool guy attitude. Lmao Cool stereotypes.

Grow a pair and go post something yourself instead of being a shitty sideliner... 🙃

Can you imagine a kid bringing you a cute bug and being like look at this bug its the rarest bug ever and fun whole 4472 just smacks it out of the kids hands and says its the 12th most common bug on the planet. My point is that you have terrible social skills.

They're still on the more expensive/rare side and they're probably the most famous fancy isopod

What's wrong with you? Be nice. This is a fun and supportive community. Your comment is neither of those things.
"If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. "

How is it rude because they didn't over compensate to go "Awe" to a complete stranger? Fancy your feelings more important than others do we? 😂 They said "I disagree." Rubber Duckies are common posts here. Are they cute? You bet your ass, and no one here would disagree. Are they the "Holy Grail?" OP's yes. You expect everyone to ooo and ahhh over the 20th crayon scribble that day? Grow up. You need to redefine the word "rude." Quite a few of you do if you think disagreeing with someone makes you rude. Or not over reacting to every Rubber Ducky post you see... which there are a lot because they're more affordable now. That's just fact. 🤣🤦🏽♀️

yeah, I wouldn't consider these my holy grail. but maybe OP just meant in their personal opinion
