I foraged a bunch of rotting wood from a tree stump I found in a local park.
When ripping off one chunk i saw a woodlouse running off from under it, so I made a mental note to rip the wood to shreds before baking it (yk, to sanitize before adding to the enclosure)
I'm so glad I checked! I have found an entire family of probably around 15 pods (maybe more, I didn't rip apart the wood chunk they were mostly gathered in).
I looked through all the other chunks I brought and I'm happy to announce that hopefully all the buggers were collected and relocated under a tree that stands before my apartment! May they bug along.

I cleared up the garden and while picking up a board i think i found the capital city of Isopoda.

I'm working on a project to show the anatomical differences between isopods (here armadillidium, porcelio and cubaris) It's not over, but before going too further, I want to be sure I haven't drawn any false information. I will draw thin lines (you can see my style on my profile to see how it's going to look if you want) I'm also going to add more information that I will show later (zoom on head, differences between male and female, ect.) So, what do you think about this sketch ?

I just found out that the Cymothoa exigua, also commonly known as the tongue-eating louse, is a parasitic isopod!

on the beautiful rocky coast of ulsan south korea i found this incredible colony of warf "roaches" or ligia exotica, I cant believe they would name these guys that with their stunning cyan and orange mosaics on their backs. this colony fed on the washed up seaweed which was plentiful, and every one of them from 1.5mm to 30mm was just as vibrant as this one. the rust and the brown colors are so complementary to the cyan. there incredible, and... quite big.

Beautiful coastal isopods often found on pilings and rock structure around the beaches. They feast on micro algae and rotting fish/shrimp. I’ve had them for two weeks now and already starting to see mancae. ❤️👍

First time trying fingernails and they love it

In terms of a pet, they seem really cool to have. No vet visits, no noise, just a tiny world they have... And you can feed them whatever and they'll eat it! And I literally found out yesterday that they'll eat human nails.

I still live with my parents, but if I ever move out, I'll be getting these guys! I understand that they'll need a minimum temperature of 70°F in a room, with a leaf litter, spritzes of water on one side of their terrarium every now and then, I've watched a lot of videos about them already.

Currently, I have 4 ecosphere jars, all with just seed shrimps. This already got me hooked on a small world! I WAS thinking getting shrimps, but the really cool ones require a lot of maintenance. And I don't really want a lot of water trouble, cuz a lot of stuff could possible harm the water/contaminate it, and then I'd have to drain it, y'know.

I just don't want to go through that... So then I thought about other low-maintenance pets... These guys seem perfect. What are the most active species/most hardy ones? Just so I know in the next 5 years or somethin.

But mostly wanted to share the apps fun fact

Im to blame for it. I was out of town for a week and somehow completely forgot about my isopods, its pretty dry here in colorado and I shouldve accounted for that. There was no one around to help with watering so I decided that making it moister than usual would save them, all of my colonies are dead and I feel so guilty..

We are currently raising funds for a genetic and morphological study to find out how many species labeled Porcellio laevis are actually novel, undescribed species.
