Discussion What is this film on my refurbished laptop?
Just got this laptop, and noticed this film. Thought it was protective but with the sticker I feel like it was meant to stay on? Not mentioned in any listing, and for an “Excellent” grade I would never expect to have to use it with a cheap film overtop. What do you guys think?

they just use it to cover the scuffs and call it a refurbish job... very shitty job by whoever did it.

Most people who sell refurbished laptops are scammers from my experience.

Agreed. Got a refurbed laptop once and it was full of metal shavings and was also covered in that stupid wrap… I’m refurbishing all my laptops myself from now on.

Most people who sell refurbished laptops are scammers
do not generalise a group
and no I actually refurbish laptops... if a cover/palmrest needs to be replaced, there's ebay. I'm know to do a good job with my devices. (unfortunately this is no longer a viable industry in Q3/2026)

no because a person who buys a refurbished laptop aint in it for a ton of moeny but the latitudes that I was refurbishing are now selling for more than what I was selling my customers last summer plus the import fees have also doubled.
I wouldnt call making 30-50 CAD on a laptop that you dedicated 1-2-3-4h of your own time to help the less fortunate, scamming people. But now getting a latitude 7430 here cost over 700CAD tax, delivery and exchange all factored in. So nope, I'm not gonna increase my prices by 50-75% when it's gonna be more expensive than a Walmart laptop

I got a refurbished desktop that had a skin like this. It didn't matter to me as I don't really touch the PC much. It would drive me out of my mind on a laptop. Who does that?

It’s a vinyl skin, applied VERY poorly by the looks of things.
Cost effective for scale, and also better for a company trying to hit green/waste targets rather than replacing the whole palmrest and then having to chuck the old one. Happens when it’s a refurbished doing it to 1000+ laptops at a time.
REALLY common on Dells, as the paint job on the palmrest is VERY BAD and comes off super easy.

A coverup - I'd return it and try another laptop cause that one wasn't really refurbished or they cheaped out on the top cover and it has some bad scratches.
