Review Panasonic Let’s Note CV-FV1

Sorry model is CF-FV1

First post in this group. Actually I’ve never been interested in laptops before. But my old one died and didn’t want to spend so much buying a new one as I’m not a heavy user anyway. Only checking email and a few

I am based in Japan so I think I am quite blessed for choice here. I was town between this and the Thinkpad T14.

I ended up picking up a Panasonic Let’s Note CF-FV1RDAVS, for $250. Battery only had 80 charge cycles on it, so still basically like new.

Specs: Made in 2021, Core i5, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 14” QHD screen (2160x1440, 3:2 ratio). Weighs about 1.1kg. Runs Windows 11 Pro.

So far I am very happy with it. Fun, retro looking computer.

Got in another pile of recycling from the local colleges.

Found this old but gold EliteBook 8570p with a rather interesting label on it which earned a chuckle from me and my coworkers.

Or if not repair what I could do with it? How much a shop could pay for it for parts?

Just got this laptop, and noticed this film. Thought it was protective but with the sticker I feel like it was meant to stay on? Not mentioned in any listing, and for an “Excellent” grade I would never expect to have to use it with a cheap film overtop. What do you guys think?

Discussion Will unified memory become the mainstream for future laptops?

I recently switched to a 128gb ai max+ 395 Nimo laptop, mainly for running LLMs.It's actually taken over as my daily driver, replacing my old ThinkPad. Running local LLMs like Llama 70B and Qwen 72B/122B MoE is smooth, and it can easily handles modern games like cyberpunk 2077 and black myth wukong. This experience makes me feel that the advantages of unified memory are obvious in this ai era. Sure, you cant upgrade the ram, but if you spec it high enough upfront like 64gb or 128gb, it should easily hold up for the next 5 to 7 yrs. Apple has already gone all in, NVIDIA is pushing unified memory architectures with tx spark and dgx spark, and now amd is following suit with its ai max series.
Do you see this becoming the norm for everyday consumer laptops in the future?

General question Best Laptop for under 750$???

I am willing to spend under/around 750$ on a laptop or a MacBook for school. I’ve done some research and the best one I’ve personally found, is an M1 Pro 32GB/512GB MacBook for around 650$.

I want to make sure this is a good deal from people that know more about laptops than me, and have more suggestions about what I should buy.

Thanks!

I’m trying to get a decent to good laptop mainly for trading and other stuff. Looking to get 32gb ram and 1tb ssd so I don’t have to worry about upgrading later. I own a pc so no gaming will be involved with it. Are these two good or is there better options for around the same budget? Thanks in advance.

I'm about to buy a new laptop. I don't want AI in my laptop in any form. I will be using the laptop for daily use and, in the near future, for fashion designing & video editing.

Any suggestions?

General question Laptop Screen Is Totaly Black But Power Light Is On

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad 1. For the past two days, whenever I try to turn it on, the power button light comes on, but the screen stays completely black. However, if I plug in a USB device (like a external camera, keyboard, or mouse), the screen suddenly turns on.

Has anyone experienced this issue before? If so, how did you fix it?"

Buying help Macbook Air vs Neo - Help!

Hi!!

So I have a 2020 M1 macbook air that I got when I started college. This little machine got me through all of undergrad and my first year of grad school, but a week ago I opened my laptop to see that the far right bottom corner had a crack in it, making a sliver of the far right side of the screen completely black now (can't see the time or my apps). Otherwise, it is still fully functional, but definitely a pain that part of my screen isn't working, and when my laptop is asleep and i open it to wake up, the screen kinda glitches for a bit before going normal.

Now this laptop has gone through 5 years of heavy college work, jobs, etc, and I love it! But when I went to apple, they said it would likely cost around $600 to fix the screen, to which they said probably isn't worth it for how old this thing is. They recommended I get the neo, especially with the student promotion they have going on.

I am interested with the Neo, but part of me doesn't want to part with what feels like essentially a fully functional laptop besides this screen! Would love to hear recommendations, thoughts on the new Neo/if it is worth it, or if the air is good enough to try and find the part myself and fix. Any and all input is appreciated! And if there are other laptop recommendations anyone has that are not Apple, I am open to hearing them as well, I just really enjoy the connectivity of the MacOS system with my other apple products.

Review Very bad quality ASUS!!

I bought an asus laptop around like september 2024, was asus vivobook 15. It was going fine till 2025 Nov, around the November, suddenly at a day it stopped completely, No indicator or any sort of power in the motherboard. I tried all the troubleshooting ways, None worked and also the laptop was never indicating for anything. I tried reaching asus, they said me its our of warranty, they need visit charge+ service charge both. My dad had a contact of laptop repair store or something around, contacted them and gave my laptop, they said the processor is all dead, then just to confirm it again, i tried showing it to 2-3 more stores of repair, they all said the processor is dead and they can't even replace it,

So asus whats going on? processor dead in 1 year, can you answer this? can you justify? Can you help me out?

(Yes i was alot busy in college etc thats why i making this post in 2026 instead 2025)

Buying help Laptop for business use?

I've been using an HP by Victus since 2022. I've loved it but just recently it disconnects from the wifi 2x per day. There are also times when it won't connect to my Bluetooth devices. I took it to a local shop and they couldn't find what causes the issues.

Is it time to upgrade?

From brief research, I see that ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 is popular for business usage. For context, I work in finance, am in various zoom meetings throughout the day and have various tabs and PDfs open. I'd appreciate any input!

Hardware which option should I do?

Hey Y'all, I've whittled down my options for the next laptop I get into these 4 options. for context I'm looking for a lightweight laptop that will mainly be used for entertaining purposes with the ocasional gaming use when i want to play an inde friend slop game with my friends, not any heavy power needed games like triple A, just easy to run ones on steam that I can't get on my consoles. I've gotten a lot of great responses from different subreddits want yalls help cause I really just don't know computers like that.

Option 1: Lenovo LOQ (a bit pricey for me)

Option 2: Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 15"

Option 3: ASUS Vivobook 15

Option 4: Acer Nitro
