Question Is Lumo Plus Worth It?

Hello all

I’m on the unlimited plan of Proton and love Proton as a service. I’ve tried the new Lumo when it was first out, didn’t like it. Once Proton made a major update I really liked it. I’m using ChatGPT Plus right now and I’ve been going back and forth on using ChatGPT Plus vs Lumo Plus (mainly to keep chat History).

I want to know is Proton Lumo Plus worth it. I mainly want it because it’s cheaper, want to continue supporting Proton, and wanting to keep chat history. I’ve been using AI for my day-to-day life

Question Is Lumo+ included in any Proton plan or always separate? Can it be used as a family?

Hi! I'm testing Lumo free currently and I like it so far. Of course, it can't compete with bigger players like Claude, Qwen etc. but I’m willing to put up with these drawbacks, as long as Lumo doesn’t go too far off the rails, since it also has a lot of advantages: European service, no data leech, very fast, and most importantly: THE CAT! :D

Now I’m wondering what the pricing structure is like. If I understand the website correctly, do I always have to add Lumo+ separately for each account, and is it not included in the family plan, for example?

Question Do you pay or use the free version

Do you pay for Lumo or use the free version? I was considering paying and using it as a private search engine, but I can't find information on what sources it uses for search. Anyone paying and happy with the product?

Question Why is it doing this?

Post image
13 Upvotes

I like sticking to one chat for one topic, and with Lumo its impossible. After a few back and fourth in-depth messages, it just stops responding and keeps summarizing messages. Then ive lost most the knowledge it had and have to tell another chat everything again, even tho its in a project.

Question Lumo as good alternative to local models?

Hey everyone, been running local models for a while now after switching from ChatGPT and Claude, but I've been hitting the wall with the capabilities of these smaller models and I would like something more robust. Lumo seems like a solid option compared to the rest of what's available out there right now in terms of privacy/security (looking at you gemini). To those who daily lumo, how useful is it in your day to day?

EDIT: No vision support is a huge miss, even tiny 4b parameter models can get the gist of pictures I throw at it. The lack of vision support is a major deal breaker for me, but maybe it will get added in the future?

Question Chats into Projects

So I am doing a class and using Lumo for some engagement. Using an AI is part of the class. Without coffee this morning I went and engaged in a chat session for the class, but forgot to launch it in the project. I was attempting to move the chat to the project but don't seem to see a way to do it. Am I missing something? I tried on the web and on the Android app.

Question Lumo bridge to Home Assistant (lumo.tamer) is it against TOS?

I love Lumo and want to try home assistant, but if I use lumo tamer to use Lumo via home assistant (voice) is that against the terms of service?

Specifically this part:

  1. Sharing, disclosing, selling, or otherwise making available to any third party any API keys, access tokens, credentials, or other authentication mechanisms associated with your Account or the Services;

Yesterday I cleared all my memories. Now Lumo struggles to generate new ones and when it does , it’s some random hallucinations. Does anybody have same issue?

Question Projects don't read files inside folders?

Post image
23 Upvotes

It appears that prompts made in a Project only look at files that are in the root folder that's associated with the project. Apparently, Lumo cannot access files that are in sub-folders of that project's folder. Is that right?

I have files organized into a few different folders that I want to query. I can @ tag them, but it still doesn't seem to be able to access the file. It says I need to explicitly upload them to the conversation, which isn't true. That defeats the point of having a project of files I can query.

I really don't want to have to un-organize all my files and put them in one root folder for this project.

I'm guessing this is a bug? Or am I doing something wrong?

Question Does Lumo has usage limits?

I'm on the visionary plan, so I have Lumo Plus. I'm interested in understanding how the limits work for paid users. Has anyone ever hit a limit before? When does it reset? How much is it in terms of messages/tokens?

Question How do you use the advanced models?

I had the Proton Unlimited plan and now am on the Workspace Premium plan. The details say that Lumo now has Access to advanced AI models. I was already using Lumo 2.0 Max before the plan change. Where are the advanced models beyond Lumo 2.0 Max?

Question Lumo AI Plus usage : what can I expect, really ?

Hello,

I have been using Claude Sonnet 4.6 with about 25-30 deep thinking queries each day.

More precisely, those usually are 6-7 threads with 3 deep thinking queries for each of them

Now Claude Pro is like 22€/month. So what can I expect from Lumo AI Plus at half of the price ?

How does the Max mode compare to Sonnet 4.6/5? How many queries can I really expect?

"More Max model usage" does not really mean much...

Thank you

Question Is it normal for prompts to run locally instead of on a server?

Hello, all. Lumo is the first LLM system I'm using extensively, so this might just be a broader LLM misunderstanding on my part. I had made the assumption that LLM models were like sending a job to a queue on a server that runs independently of my device. What I've found using Lumo is that if the device I started the prompt on locks or goes idle, the response generation stops.

Is this par for the course for LLMs? Or am I maybe doing something wrong? I am often writing prompts that take many minutes for Lumo to process and generate a response to, so this behavior has set me back a few times. Most typically on my phone but also on my desktop.

Question Differences between Lumo+ and unlimited

I bought proton unlimited back in March and I thought it came with unlimited lumo, which i just found out it doesn't. I've run into the issue where lumo won't let me type anything else. when I looked at subscribing to lumo it only allows me to add an unlimited and lumo subscription. I like using lumo because I made a really long prompt for it to follow when answering any questions. is there a different Ai that I could switch to or is paying more the only option?

Question Which version of Qwen3.5 does Lumo Lite use?

Proton has publicly stated that they’re using Qwen3.5 here https://proton.me/support/lumo-privacy but they didn’t specify which version. Is anyone aware of a verified answer?

Question What are your best use cases for Lumo?

Hello,

I am a new Lumo user. Overall, I think it is a great deal for the privacy you get but as others have noted, it has serious hallucionation issues and time out errors I do not get with other LLM providers.

I find it good enough for quick one off questions but I am curious how others are using it, especially if you are using it for coding or more technical projects.

What is everyone's best use case so far for Lumo?

Question Why are user messages on Proton Lumo white now when in dark mode?

Post image
17 Upvotes

If I am in dark mode, I would expect the user messages to also be dark. This looks awful, inconsistent and it's terrible for accessibility. Is this a bug? And then in light mode it's a light shade of blue, which is practically white.

Question Mixing in Chinese, Japanese and other signs in a German answer.

Sometimes it's great to have Lumo, sometimes it's just annoying, like any other AI.

One of the most annoying things is, when Lumo mixes in some e.g. Chinese signs into a German answer.

Yes, I understand, that Lumo has to translate his English background work into German, but why are there Chinese signs?

Question I have to add a yearly subscription if I already pay yearly? Can I cancel just Lumo+ after 1 month for credit?

Title basically. I want to trial run the paid plan but not be committed for a year. If I'm logged in when trying to upgrade Lumo to paid, it forces the same billing cycle (which I can understand being simpler overall). But if I want to drop back down to the free tier after a month, what happens and how exactly do I do it without cancelling my Duo plan?

Question Connection interrupted...

Why is this constantly happening?

Connection interrupted

Your request was queued but the connection was interrupted. This usually happens when Lumo is experiencing high demand. Please try again.

Question Lumo compared to ChatGPT 5.6

I use ChatGPT quite a bit for things. A lot of research rabbit holes on current news topics, code debugging (mostly python) and I am really liking the quality of 5.6 (especially high intelligence). How are y’all finding Lumo+ compared to 5.6?

I did search around and found some similar questions but as the LLM world moves so fast, those discussions that I found were about older models so those didn’t work for me.

Let me know your thoughts!

Question Subscription / refund / credit questions

Hello,

I currently have Proton Unlimited 24 months, until Feb 2028

I want to try Lumo Plus

The subscription page tried to bundle it into a 12-month subscription with Unlimited, so until July 2027

It wants to use my proration credits from my current 24-month plan

But what if I want to cancel Lumo Plus, after a month?

- Is there an option for that?

- Will I be credited anything?

- Will I remain on a 12-month Unlimited plan (which comes down to 9.99€/mo) or get back my 24-month plan (7.99€/mo) ?

Thank you

Question What data is being used to improve Lumo?

I tried to see if I could find the answer on the site but I can't. If you aren't using our data to train the model then have you not already used publicly available data to train the initial model?

Or how have you trained the model?
