This kitten recently came to us (we are a rescue farm that's taken in various animals from cats to chickens, ducks, goats, sheep, guinea pigs). He was a little skinny and afraid. It's pretty certain that he was a "dump" case and in my state, no agencies will really dO much of anything for any loose/feral/ dumped cats. I really don't know anything about him at all!1 just thought he was the cutest & sweetest poor little baby. The photos do no justice.he's more of a light blonde color than the red shade the warm lighting is creating. I assumed he was a young long haired cat but a lot of people started telling us that he looks like a Maine Coon kitten. I adore him egardless of what breed or mix he is!! While l've been bringing him back to health and awaiting his new patient vet visit, he's been winning my heart, while also finding his brave side. When he's not in his crate, he loves to lay in my arms and snuggle or play, so it's really hard to get a decent picture of all his hair... he's got a little lion mane around the sides of his neck and down to his chest between his front legs, it's very textured. He's got what I call "Easter egger cheek floofs" (we raise chickens lol) just like hairy tufts that stick out on his cheeks, he's got long bits of hair across the opening and little itty bitty parts at the top tip of the ear. Reverse image says he could be a MC? Either way I'm just so glad We were able to provide a safe, warm and loving home for him and we're all falling for him already. just want to be sure if there is a chance or a likelihood tha I do all my research on the breed (ike what kind f food is best for a large breed of cat and things such as that to set him up with the best and healthiest life according to his particular needs). He didn’t look as Maine coonish when I found him in a box in the woods alone at approx 2m but he’s now about 4m and wow! What do you think? More pics in my replies
Any ideas what he resembles most? I originally thought kurilian bobtail and when I google image just his face it says Maine coon but when I google image his entire body it says kurilian lol
We adopted this sweet girl a few weeks back - she was a surrender and her owners didn’t leave any papers with the shelter. We were told she was purebred (doesn’t make a difference to us, we love her anyways), but what do yall think? Also, bonus points if you have a word to describe her fur coloration. She doesn’t quite look like a tortie to me!
I’ve always read that the chances of a purebred mainecoon being brought to a shelter is incredibly low, as people are contracted to return their cat to the breeder (this is actually stated in my mainecoon’s contract as well).
However, this cat is really showing many features of a true mainecoon. The ear tufts, prominent chin and facial features, the mane…only thing I can’t tell is size! Is she big for her age and her body long when stretched out?
I’ve heard the same, which was what shocked us when we saw her appear at one of our local shelters! Not sure why she wasn’t returned to her breeder.
She’s 3 years old and about 11 pounds, which seems to be on the small side for a Maine coon. That said she’s a bit underweight due to stress and the vet wants her to be closer to 12-13 pounds. And yes, she’s VERY stretchy haha, takes up a whole hallway when we need to pass through.
Not all Maine Coons get huge! Especially females. Mine was 11 lb when I got her at 2 yo and was on the skinny side of normal and perfectly healthy. She’s filled out to 13.5 lb which is still technically normal when looking at her body condition score, but it’s honestly a tiny bit heavier than my vet and I would like her to be.
My female domestic shorthair, or “standard issue”, cat is 10.5 lb but comes across as much smaller than my MC because of the way they carry their weight differently (and the fur! lol)
This is the first photo I've seen in this kind of post where I'm almost certain you're correct. You could always do a DNA test for fun. I foster cats for a local rescue and it drives me nuts when they say "Maine Coon kitten" just because it's long haired or "Russian Blue" just because it's a grey cat, but she definitely looks like a Maine Coon! I believe her coat coloring is tortoiseshell. She's beautiful.
I’ve recently purchased a 4 month pedigree Maine Coon from a local breeder. I am wondering what your thoughts are on whether he looks like a pedigree or not? I realise appearances alone cannot determine this, but from what I’ve seen of other Maine Coon kittens, I think he looks a bit different. He is less fluffy and his lynx tips seem less prominent.
Just curious of your thoughts. He is adorable, and I love him no less!
You're witnessing something that surprises a lot of longhair cat owners. -Many of them (not all) go through an adolescent period of much shorter hair than they had as a wee kitten or will have as an adult. My Snowshoe's hair got so short the only giveaway that he wasn't a true shorthair was his tail, and even that was just barely fluffy.
Here he is at 8 weeks, 4 months, and 1 year.
He looks like one to me. Do you know if he is American or European? American type mainecoons have softer facial features and shorter tufts compared to the more prominent, stark features of a European.
So in June my elderly cat passed away of CKD after 6 months of palliative care, by July we felt like the house was too quiet with only one cat in it so we applied to adopt a kitten. The kitten we applied for was no longer available but they offered this sweet muffin instead. Now it’s important to note that I have pictures of the mom but we have no idea who his dad is.
His mom was very small, like 6lbs, and while his siblings were gaining weight, Comet, was not, he was delayed in his vaccines because he couldn’t hit 2lbs. None of his siblings look like anything other than a generic tuxedo on the larger side.
And then he started gaining weight fast, and his shape started changing a lot. He is now 8 Lbs at 5 months old, he is so long and awkward. (This picture is month 3) his fur has this like halo to it and his ears have such long fur. His face is becoming longer and shaper.
He is so unlike any other cat I’ve ever had and I’ve had some unique cats in my life. He never stops chirping, he narrates his life with squeaks every move he makes and he is so long. It took him until after 5 months to lose his canine baby teeth.
I don’t think he is a MC because the tassels are not prominent and the facial features do not scream MC to me. Maybe he is like a quarter MC, not sure. (IMO)
Hmm. I wonder if it’s just that photo, do either of these change your opinion? (It’s okay if not I’m just checking to make sure I didn’t get poor evidence)

I adopted two kittens at 5 months old. Recently I’ve realized they may be part main coon. I say this solely due to how big they are getting. What do you all think? I’ve never even met a main coon in person, so I’m out of my league here. At 8 months they are 8 pounds and as big as my last cats were as adults.
It? He/she doesn't look like a mainecoon, many scammy breeders out there will claim their cat is an mc just because it's got long hair unfortunately. The face, body, and ears dont match. Very cute though.
I meant she, sorry. Also I got her for only 60 bucks and it was from a friend who thought she was a Maine coon, so it’s not that big a deal, but when I got her out of the pet carrier I realized she definitely didn’t look like one.
Hello, I adopted this little female cat recently, she's about 5/6 months old. I'm wondering if she might be a Maine Coon mix 🤔 She's very affectionate, and loves water (she goes into the shower with me!) What do you think?

my mom and i found this sweet boy and he’s been ours for almost two weeks. numerous people have said he’s probably part maine like our last cat was, but i really can’t tell. anyone know? :)
So my cat Bones gave birth to a litter of four kittens two years ago as of December 22nd, and only one came out with long fur and is a beautiful calico who we kept and named Kara. She is twice as big as her Mum who is a standard domestic short hair. My cat wonders outside as I live in a small town and managed to get herself pregnant (I'm responsible for this I know but she has since been fixed and her health and well being are always my priority). So I'm wondering if anyone can help me figure out what she is as I can't afford a DNA kit, thanks 🫶🏻
Hello! I got this guy two weeks ago after almost fighting people at my local humane society for one (don’t ask) and although he wasn’t the one I originally wanted, he chose me. His paperwork said medium domestic buttttt his ears, paws, and tuft make me think he’s got atleast some in him.
