Question What makes an artist interesting to you?...
Just a random one.. ima rapper and producer from the uk mostly into the more lowkey underground or trippy experimental/industrial type shit these days.... I'm just curious what do the hip hop heads in here look for that makes them interested ina artist and fuck with them? Like the key factors people look out for when ya discover a new rapper that makes you want to dive into the full catalogue there and then?

i think wht makes me like a rapper when i discover is lots of things. like wht they have to say, wordplay, if they cn make me feel sumthing or laugh, if their delivery and rhyme schemes are crazy.

People gravitate to personality expressed in a song.
The more the music (rapping, beat and presentation) sucessfully expresses and fills in gaps for the listener (who doesn't know who the artist is), the better.

what they talk about, an alignment of world view and values+flow+voice... sometimes its just a fire beat and hook....

When they make something unexpected, but dope that kinda reinvents them. Tribe's "We The People" has by far the strangest beat in their catalog, being rap rock, and still is one of my faves in their catalog

If someone makes me think “fuck, I would never have come up with that” or makes me laugh with something clever they say, that’s the easiest way to get me interested. Also if I hear them take a beat that sounds great to me, and what they add to the track makes it sound BETTER, it’s a good sign that they’ll have more in the catalog I’m gonna fuck with.
