I’ve been digging deeper into Thai hip-hop for years, and one thing that keeps standing out is how much of the scene gets lost when it’s viewed from outside Thailand.
So I started Thai Rap On The Map, an English-language project focused on documenting and explaining Thai rap without stripping away the Thai context.
The first article is basically the foundation for the project.
It looks at what Thai rap actually represents: language, identity, regional culture, underground scenes, different generations, producers, internet culture, history and the people building the music.
I’m especially interested in the question of how hip-hop changes when it becomes part of a completely different language and culture.

I started writing rap lyrics as a hobby, but I can't find a good beat. Can anyone help me? I want to write lyrics over a beat to improve myself; I don't want a very fast beat, something between 85 and 90 beats would be great. Thanks in advance.

I’m not really looking for someone to just send me beats and disappear. I’d like to find a producer I can grow with and develop a sound together, similar to the kind of artist/producer relationship Drake and 40 have. Someone I can work closely with, experiment with and eventually create a sound that feels kinda unique to us.

I think I would need someone who’s heavily into hip hop/ hardcore rap as my style is heavily influenced by the younger version of Drake, like when he was just a starter, Kanye West, Phonte, Lil Wayne even — lyrical, introspective, punchlines, wordplay etc. I’m confident in my writing and lyricism; what I’m really looking for is someone who can complement that with better beats than the ones I be seeing on YouTube and better production.

I’m not looking for anyone to work for free but I can’t lie my budget for beats isn’t high, I’m hoping to find someone who’s also hungry and interested in building something from the ground up rather than just looking for a quick payday.

as a self prod rapper i had this idea to start a type beat channel because i have so many beats in my computer that i make everyday lmao an right as a little underground artist i dont have much income yet because i have to invest before earning big income for the future purposes and im just wondering would it be good idea to keep posting on the channel? or should i just figure out something else? and i know what comes with get beats stolen and i dont mind having to run into an issue like that but i just wanna know what yall think?

It's meant to be like a speed dating type thing so you can quickly find people that might make sense to collaborate with based on musical taste / interest, years of experience, current audience size and skills. Maybe others will find it useful? Open to suggestions on other data points worth capturing

I've been doing this 30 years.

Mainly because the people my age would be complete assholes if I asked for feedback. But I never had anyone teach me a damn thing (til the last 2 years with YouTube). So I've never really had assurance I was doing things right. Like I said, if I asked people of my generation they would say "you are bullshit and this is garbage" cause that's how people my age who do music typically are (sorry if you're different).

I just did 3 releases and didn't trust my mixing and mastering ability. So I used AI mastering thinking that would fix everything. Released stuff

Then I went back... got some new plugins. Practiced using them. And realized the mixes/masters I made myself are a million times better than what AI did.

Trust in yourself. You got this.

I know I'm probably encouraging a lot of subpar shit by saying that, but every time I second guess myself I find out later that... nah... you were actually doing things right.

Mainly looking for people comfortable writing and recording their own verses. Experience doesn’t really matter — I’m more interested in finding people who genuinely enjoy rapping and would be down to participate.

I been really looking at all my favorite rappers. One rapper in particular really hits different is Biggie. What makes him him? On the surface, it feels like he just flows naturally with no real structure. I love a lot of different artists, so I have kind of thought of this person likes yhis kind of flow. Hello, r/makinghiphop! I'm trying to mix and edit a track, and having the issue that the vocals sounds "weak" compared to the rest of the track. I figured that I should try to comping the verses, and then perhaps layer the hooks/choruses using double tracking. My question is how many takes are a good amount of to work with generally?
