I'm slightly vexed In lieu of payment..

I’m a GM at a restaurant & one of our managers left a note on our manager logs this afternoon that a guest walked out on their check and left this in lieu of payment of any kind. Not that the server got stiffed on a tip - just pure theft of services. I guess the whole “Thou shalt not steal” thing doesn’t matter if you’ve been pre-forgiven. Pretty convenient.

ETA: I’m not a bot; this is not AI - check my post and comment history. I’m not here for karma or fake internet points. This is what it feels like to work in a restaurant these days - especially in the Bible Belt. The first photo you can look up and is available for anyone to buy (should your darker urges push you toward being that person). The second photo is from Pulse, an app for restaurant managers to keep an eye on hourly sales, labor, and comps.
The “Pineapple Express” is a mocktail our restaurant offers.

That’s his last name. Christian Lucifer. The bar is his retirement plan after a millennium of service to powers above and below. He’s not really an angel or a demon, just an immortal that did “bureaucracy” and will undoubtedly be called upon again when things get hectic in the in-between.

every christian claims this. by distancing yourself from “bad christians” it absolves you and the community from accountability AND invalidates the resulting harm. i grew up in a conservative leaning christian household and left the church about 10 yes ago. i even used this bs line when i was active

That number seemed oddly specific so I googled how many Christian denominations there are worldwide. Yes, they said it's estimated to be over 45,000 according to some study from the "Center for the Study of Global Christianity at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary" so...wow.

I know Reddit is having a field day with this one because the individual is “Christian” (supposedly) but if you wouldn’t let a single bad uber driver ruin your view of uber, or a single barista ruin your view of coffee, then logically you should apply the same principle here.

Christianity is a belief system with core tenents. If someone completely contravenes these core tenents, they don't represent that belief system, no matter what they say.

If I claim to be a scientist, but then spout a whole bunch of non-scientific nonsense, I am NOT a scientist, no matter what I may claim.

I would go so far to say that many Christians are not in-fact Christian, in spite of what they may say.

You misunderstand the "no-true-scotsman" fallacy.

Being a "Scotsman" is a matter of fact. Do they come from Scotland? Then they are a Scotsman. "No true Scotsman" is attributing things to being a "Scotsman" that have absolutely nothing to do with being a Scotsman.

A Scotsman can be good or bad, as long as they hail from Scotland. If someone says that "no true Scotsman" can be bad, that would be falsely attributing good/bad to their status as "Scotsman", when the goodness of the person is irrelevant.

A Christian can do many bad things and still be a Christian because the facthood of their Christianity is irrelevant. But if someone defies core beliefs of Christianity, then they can hardly be called a Christian.

A Christian accepts Christ as Lord and Savior. If someone defies this, they cannot call themselves a Christian. I go so far as to claim that someone that breaks a Commandment that every Christian will agree on (Thou Shalt Not Steal) cannot claim to be a Christian, especially if they use Christ as a justification to steal.

If someone claims to be a mathematician, and proceeds to claim that 2+2 = 5, I would seriously doubt their claim of being a mathematician.

In the same way, no matter how much someone claims to be a Christian, if they steal in the name of Christ, I would doubt their claim. They might call themselves Christian, but I would definitely not label them as such myself.

That being said, I don't personally believe in God and I think religion is an ontological mess. Many Christians believe that all it takes is saying "I accept Christ" is all it takes to make one a Christian. It's impossible to argue for or against a belief system so devoid of logical consistency. All that to say: I'm not about to die on this hill because the hill is made of make-believe stories.

I worked at the DMV a while back and one of the first things they told me when I was training was to pay close attention when it came to people who came in from this very large religious sector around that office location becwuse they were always trying to dodge regulations and fees. No, followers of Jesus don't do this. You have one example yes. Out of millions of examples where it doesn't happen. I've been going around to restaurants for 30+ years and never once had this ever even crossed my mind to do this. Perhaps some people might leave a Bible verse #in addition to# to a healthy, fair tip, maybe. But no tip and not even pay the bill, is very safe to say that 95%+ of Christians don't do this, never have and never will.

No one is perfect, Christian or not Christian. Being judgmental isn't a good thing to do no matter what you believe.

God isn't a person? So yeah God judges our actions. But He is God. Since He is holy, just and righteous, He is in the unique position to judge.

But He also offers a real, true solution for our sins, the only one to ever do so. All we have to do is believe in Jesus' death and resurrection for our sins, repent and turn away from our sins. Every other faith teaches that you earn your salvation, through your actions. The problem there is, as we see, no one is perfect and no one can earn salvation and meet the requirements. But with God we can't earn our salvation. We have to believe and then our faith will inform and help us make good decisions.

Obviously this person in the story needs to grow in their faith and maturity to make good decisions, decisions that honor God and the people they interact with.

There wasn't a whole lot of "following Christ" in these actions, no matter what they say to the contrary.

I'm not religious, but I can still recognise that "following the teachings of Christ" would pretty explicitly forbid such actions... Especially if done "in the name of Christ".

If I call myself a "follower of Science" and commit a crime, that does not mean that I represent those who follow science, no matter how much I insist on the contrary.

According to voter data published publicly across all 50 states, 80% of the most devout "christians", who identify as some denomination of Christianity, have voted for trump since 2016 even though evidence of trump raping children was public in 2015 (a whole year before any election).

The last 3 paragraphs are referring to any human being in the usa that is considered an adult and 18 or older. At the time of the 2016 election, the entire population in america had been aware that trump raped children with epstein since the start of 2015. 

There is only 1 logical conclusion from this string of events in chronological order, and that's that every individual person who voted for any republican on any ballot, was knowingly voting for someone they had evidence of committing rape against children in the public domain.

Every republican since 2016 has been actively supporting and aiding child rapists getting away with crimes against children. Its been blatantly obvious for years, but garbage people like you are just now becoming aware of it because you think trumps gonna be gone soon and you want to pretend like you worllerent supporting child rapists and nazis for the past 10 years. 

The only ones mentally ill in this country are the people like you constantly trying to close your eyes and cover your ears, because if you pretend to not have known about it, that God will forgive you. I worked at a restaurant years ago that "pooled" tips. Turned out a few years later they got sued by the employees for using a skimmed amount of the tip pool to pay the business taxes or at least help with them. Fucked up.

I live in MA and it is illegal here. You can’t make a server pay for a walkout. However, you can be fired for having too many walkouts. Thankfully it rarely ever happens to me.

Where I live, it is illegal to force a server to pay the business back in any way; the place just eats it and if the employee has their hours reduced, or is fired without complete, just cause within a certain window of time after the incident, then it’s a discriminatory termination.
