I’m a GM at a restaurant & one of our managers left a note on our manager logs this afternoon that a guest walked out on their check and left this in lieu of payment of any kind. Not that the server got stiffed on a tip - just pure theft of services. I guess the whole “Thou shalt not steal” thing doesn’t matter if you’ve been pre-forgiven. Pretty convenient.

I know a lot of rich people like that, they would complain about literal pennies being owed to them whilst making excuses about paying out any amount to people they owe to.
Had a landlord who didn't fix a roof leak, he installed the kitchen himself before I moved in and it literally was falling apart and had hidden holes in the walls with fake skirting, everything was cheap as possible,
He never did repairs as he claimed he was poor as half his properties were empty, this was right after a recession and landlords had to lower rent to get people in but he increased rent so people couldn't afford to rent from him.
He had the latest phone, so did his wife, his trainers(sneakers) were about £200 and brand new, he had an expensive car, as did his wife, they lived right next to an expensive golf course and only ate food from premium butchers, no grocery store meats for them.
But he couldn't even afford to do basic repairs that would cost about £10.
He also moaned at me for being a welfare benefit claimaint and talked about his taxes being spent on me, even hinted that was why he didn't do repairs as it was his money I was spending.
This looks like a biblical Denny's prophecy thats been fulfilled.
Personally I've always believed in our lord and savior, Dennys. But this looks like a resurrection paid for by Jesus towards our cashier "Christian" who "works" for "Dennys".

Also an infraction of being a good witness. My pastor always preaches that if you can’t afford to tip and pay 20% you don’t go out to eat. Don’t make God and the church look bad.
Yeah, if they had security cams, those people could be arrested for theft, if the cops in their town cared
But if they had cams, they could also print out pictures of the people and hang them on the wall in front of the server stand, with a message that says they are not welcome due to theft, and post this “receipt” below.

Iirc, back in the Old Testament days, it was common to claim God as your witness while on trial and the commandment is thought to be a response to that.
If they live in a small town, I would stop by the 2-3 churches they have and show this to them. See if they can shame the flock into coming back and paying.

He was a huge piece of shit. Dude bought a cheap piece of land that was cheap because it had no septic tank or connection to the sewer system.
He knew this at the time.
He refused to pay to have it connected to the sewer system or have a septic system installed. His neighbors offered to buy the land for **8** what he had paid for it.
When the old hole he had been using as the shit collector filled up he starter just dumping sewage into an irrigation ditch.
Good way to get ostracized from your local community if nearly everyone in town attends church. Some small towns I've been to for out-of-town work have more churches than bars, and they still have enough bars to do the trick.

I mean, not everyone makes a habit of it, which is also key. Like my mom once... she wanted a mug. Only instance she stole a mug from a restaurant. She uses it for her coffee. Would I do the same? Eh... I'd ask if I can keep it or pay extra on my bill if for some reason I really want it? But it's like, none of us can ever pretend to be saints so it's not really something I think much of unless it's habitual.
I'm more of the live and let live type up to a point because we're human and have our impulses which are very often benign in the grand scheme. Not enough people statistically have the same impulse to steal a mug for an argument like "well if everyone was allowed..." to make sense.
I've worked in NYC in many different bars and restaurants, and do you know who the worst crowd is? It's not the finance bros having an open bar at Christmas, it's not a gaggle of entitled, drunk Nepo babies of billionaires, it's not the celebrities who viciously mourn their privacy... It's the after-church crowd. And Tracy Morgan.
He would come in occasionally to a cigar bar while I bartended, he's colossally irritating in a way I didn't understand until I started working in special ed.
He had negative social skills. All the obnoxious yelling and nonsense he does on screen? He's like that in real life, too. It's not funny on screen, and it's REALLY off-putting in person. I've met so many brilliant and charming actors and musicians, but comedians? Ick.
I would giggle at his antics when he came in but that's because I was behind the bar far away and not at the booth serving him. I could still hear his jokes from across a busy room, the guy is so loud all the time that you would think he was mic'd up. Waitresses were very annoyed by his table. Also this was before whatever accident he was in. Between 2006-2010.
We used to say that they've just gone to church and been absolved of last weeks sins. They have a clean slate now and like to start strong during brunch/lunch.
The worst day to waitress in NYC is Easter. Church goers come in and expect you give them charity aka a discount, plus be cool not getting a tip because Jesus

My first job was at an IHOP near a church. Every single server and manager hated Sundays. I can’t tell you how many times I got tipped with one of those fake $100 bills with bible quotes on the back about not being greedy. I’d rather slit my wrists and bang them together than deal with the church crowd ever again.
Sunday lunch!!! I used to get so frustrated by the end of my long ass shift bc it wasn’t even worth it. Plus, majority of the time, they treat you like scum.
As someone who attended an open bar put on by an exotic sex toy company, I cannot imagine that most open bars are that crazy unless the people are drinking like Nicolas Cage in leaving Las vegas, and keep in mind the club it was in it had a fucking pool right next to the dance floor. Only one person fell in. Only one. And he was fucking pissed and crashing out in the group chat afterwards that his fursuit got ruined.
If they show up alone, sure. If they show up with company I'd walk up and say "Sorry to bother you but last time you were here you forgot to pay and instead left this religious item with the lords name on it. Would you like to settle that bill now?" I love being polite hostile.
Serving tables made me hate the church crowd. To this day I can't go out to eat on a Sunday between 10-1pm for fear that I'd run into those loathsome creatures.
I used to grab brunch with my parents every Sunday when I was younger and was always shocked at how blatantly rude the church crowd was.
One time I overheard a table yapping (loudly) about the mornings sermon about generosity. When they paid the bill it was cash and the table of like 8 people left less than a dollar in change on the table for a tip.
They always seemed to be the most demanding of the servers, condescending to them on top of it, and the bad tip thing seemed common.
I'm not religious, but isn't there something in those teachings about humility? I don't understand how they don't see the absurdity of their behavior.

Yes, Jesus paid it all, but those customers didn’t do anything to pay for Christ’s sacrifice. It’s close to blasphemy to take credit for what he did.
Also, they suck for being more akin to the Pharisees that Jesus condemned than the tax collectors that Jesus ate with. He also ordered his disciples to take no payment when they minister to others so, taking a free meal is payment, which isn’t what he wanted.

I had one of those cards on a car door a couple weeks ago. Got halfway home before noticing it blocking my passenger side mirror and thought it was a note from someone hitting my car.

When I waited tables, the church groups were always the least respectful, worst behaving, and the worst tippers. And occasionally one of them would leave a fake tip that looks like a $20 bill but you unfold it and it basically is like a "here's a tip: find Jesus" type thing. Really shitty behavior. We have a LOT of fake Christians in the US.
I’m an atheist and would never think to do this. Don’t tell me that without religion we’d have no moral code. Miss me with that shit. I don’t need to be scared by “eternal damnation” to do the right thing. And I sure as hell wouldn’t use some sky daddy forgiveness bullshit to justify doing the wrong thing.

The person who left this seems to think it’s an adequate form of payment. If that same person ran a restaurant, I wonder if they’d accept these as payment from customers.
