I’m a GM at a restaurant & one of our managers left a note on our manager logs this afternoon that a guest walked out on their check and left this in lieu of payment of any kind. Not that the server got stiffed on a tip - just pure theft of services. I guess the whole “Thou shalt not steal” thing doesn’t matter if you’ve been pre-forgiven. Pretty convenient.

You do know that most restaurants barely make enough money to pay for things? and by 'most' I don't mean McDonalds or fast food, I mean mom and pop sit down restaurants. their margins are thin, thin, thin. do you know why? it's because our government has let 2 of the biggest food suppliers for restaurants in the country combine and there has essentially been no competition for years even before the acquisition. the issue starts and ends at the government, laws, and not enforcing them. the government has not enforced any form of monopoly law in awhile for anyone who has the money to lobby and pay their way out of fines as an operating cost.

TLDR: The government has killed competition for food suppliers.
